yeah, fuck the shipping bullshit. the 2-3 minutes wasted on asami being jelly coulda gone to more aang or something.

fuck mako, hope he ends up alone and bolin smangs em both.

I wonder if they're going to flesh out the ULTRA BLOODBENDING thing any more. It seems kinda naff to just put it down to "I guess he was born with some amazing powers"

I don't understand everyone's issue with the romance. Its rather smartly done and in no way infringes on the rest of the show's greatness.

It would be really weird for Amon to be Koh only because the spiritual side of Avatar has been pushed back a lot in LoK. Korra didn't even talk directly to Aang. But it would be a great segue into Book 2 if it focused on mastering the Avatar State.

I don't understand everyone's issue with the romance. Its rather smartly done and in no way infringes on the rest of the show's greatness.

Except Mako is a total douche.

Considering how much they fleshed out Combustion Man's abilities, I would say no. However I am surprised that someone as OP as Tarlokk got removed so quickly. So fast this show!

Amon is either a cyborg or related to the spirit world at this point.

The latter was obvious the moment he revealed how he got his abilities. If Amon turns out to be Koh, I'll be disappointed. Simply because for what reason Koh would like to take people's bending away? There's practically no motivation that I can conceivably think of that makes any sort of remote sense

*I have this super power that would allow me to easily kill my enemies*
*Doesn't kill enemies*

For the sake of the plot they couldn't do that but that's kind of the problem you encounter when you introduce powers like that. I'm also a bit disappointed that the explanation was just genetics.

I do wonder what Marvel superhero Lin will be next week though :P

smartly done

Mako and Korra treat each other like crap whenever they get a chance to

actually

no youre right this is pretty realistic for teen drama

Oh man, that was such a good episode.

Though I'm a little bit disappointed that the Yakone thing basically devolved into, well, basically a side arc. I'm hoping there's more to it than that, and that it somehow ties into the Amon arc too. The solution is fine as it is, but is that all we're going to see of Aang? A mere side story resolved with some engerybending and that's that?

And as for the shippers, I bet they're all jubilant this week. Mako has finally realised his true love. *snore*

In regards to the next three two weeks:
Fucking hell. So much shit going on there. I saw gliders/jets dropping bombs, I saw Korra possibly Mako losing their bending, but still no Korra airbending. What's up with that?!

Well you did get that right with Tarrlok being dealt with early plus i got my Amon rescue wish but its funny that Aang's memory seems to be worthless now and this is exclusively Korra's problem to deal with.

Should be interesting to see how all of this plays out and yes i'm interested in the lack of air bending so far as well.

Why are so many of you so convinced that Amon is Koh, is there more evidence that points to it?

It is just a fan theory floating around because he never shows his face. There is only speculation. Not really any evidence.

Also: What happened at the end of the episode when Mako was carrying Korra? Did they just cut to Asami getting jelly?

If it had ended with the bullshit back at the tournie and the stuff at Asami's house I would be perfectly fine, but it felt really overbearing this episode with Mako basically not doing anything useful and blowing off Asami the entire time.

Jelly that Mako hogged Korra all to himself. Korrasami 2012!

Mako and bolin are such fucking deadweights in the show it upsets me. They're only purpose is simply for shipping which is an insult when ATLA had such amazing supporting characters. Korra's immaturity is starting to grate on me too.

I actually, well, agree with this. It's tiresome every week, but I hoped that they'd settled the whole Korra/Mako thing back in 'The Spirit of Competition', with them kinda just dropping it, and Korra being left out and jelly in future episodes. Made for better TV than seeing Mako unconvincingly be OTT in his concern for Korra, which seems to be Bryke's idea of character development in this show. Right now, all his character is there for is shipping, and Bolin for a bit of comic relief. Even Sokka, ATLA's comic relief character, had some good development to him, as evidenced by the fact that Councilman Sokka was actually quite well done in this episode.

Besides that, great episode!

What? Then there's really no reason for him to be Koh it would be really really dumb XD
I hope it doesn't end being this.

I think the biggest problem is Mako and Bolin have been shown alongside Lin and Tenzin. They're never gonna get a chance to show themselves when the BAMFs are kicking ass right next to them. Like that move Lin pulled with the rail car? She's so far above their tier they'll never look like anything but chumps.

Bolin at least blocked off the tunnel behind them as they were tramming away from the prison (I think). Mako just shouted at some poor bastard for a while and waved his fist around.

From the preview

Didn't it look like Fire Navy/ Earth soldiers and a Northern Water tribe warrior. It looks like the Nations will roll their armies on Republic city. All those battleships surely are not from Republic city.

I believe that Amon is somehow connected to Yakone in some way.

The first vision that Korra had was right after Amon knocked her out.

Maybe could explain his resistance to bloodbending.

It is. It satisfies an entire demographic of the show's fanbase while staying the hell out of the main plot's way. Outside of one episode it only gets a few moments out of every other episode and currently is being built rather consistently. It's not distracting, and only annoying at most. The writers achieved a sweet spot.

It's also interesting how you can contrast the teen romance (which is nailing the cliche) with Tenzin and Lin's professional relationship. It's like the writers are subtlety saying, "this is how it's gonna be when you grow up, kids."

yeah, mako suddenly being so concerned for korra is ridiculous. especially in the end where he pushed everyone aside yelling "give her some space!". really mako?

team avatar sucks in this show. the brothers are awful benders who really are only here to pad minutes and not contribute anything else. at least asami does some cool kung fu here and there, but aside from that they stink.

episode was absolutely fantastic and seeing the old gaang in the flashback shows the stark contrast between the two generations of supporting characters.

i think im going to rewatch the blind bandit episode in ATLA today.

Whats unfortunate is that the guy could be like this to all the people who he considers as a friend given the stuff that has happened to him but because its Korra its now relegated to shipping fanwank (especially when Bolin basically threw him under the bus lol). Sadly his crew still sucks, except for Pabu who WASN"T EVEN IN THE FUCKING EPISODE :(

I do think its gonna continue in the next episode because Asami might want to get the whole story

spoilers from the finale preview:

Anyone else see that shot of Bolin taking on 2 Equalist Robits? Dude must learn some metal bending or something next episode

Mako and Bolin needs some powerups, shounen-style (not really, but you get what I mean). Nowhere near as powerful as Korra or anyone else. I hope Book 2 they take several levels in badass.

Is Republic City a Singapore-lite city state or is it like a city sized UN headquarters? Still unsure how it fits into the world we knew.

This.
Even though it's awesome that the plot is moving fast and wastes absolutely no time, it doesn't permit that needed downtime for their relationships to grow.

I have complained about this for various other shows, but Korra pulls it off very well. Every character gets his or her chance to shine and have their own special moments even if they don't have a place for everyone to chill after the episode ends.

The only complaint I have is that it overloads on fan service, but the show itself is so good that it doesn't really matter at all.

This episode was amazing. I really hope Tenzin and Lin stay with the group through the end of the season, because Tenzin+Lin+Koraa is almost as badass as the original Gaang. I agree that Mako and Bolin and Asami are all pretty lame in comparison. And I'm also disappointed that after such a badass episode it ending with stupid shipping bullshit. GIVE HER SOME SPACE LAWL. So cheesy.

The Aang flashbacks were fantastic. I hope in season 2 we get a whole episode that is a flashback of the grown up Gaang. The bloodbending portions were excellent, and seeing Amon resist it like a mofo'ing boss is making him into an even more wonderful villain.

Only three episodes left though makes me sad. They go by so darn fast

Poor excuse. They clearly type-casted each character to a single element giving the brothers space to pull some stunts with their distinctive bending. Lin barely earth bends but thankfully Bolin picked up the slack a bit when he collapsed the tunnels. Mako can lightning bend for fuck's sake and we only see him do that for a part time job.

They don't get any fucking time to hang out. It's plot plot fucking plot.

Yup. Agreed. I think this kind of format probably would've suited a direct ATLA sequel rather than a whole new cast of characters. The fact that from the second Aang and Toph met up, their chemistry just worked, and that Sokka was amazing for the few lines he got says it all really. Nine episodes of LoK and we just don't have that yet.

I still think LoK is amazing, but the new Team Avatar isn't as good, as Mako is just a generic handsome guy who, if the writers are to be taken literally, is a two-timing jerkwad that will make his current girlfriend feel like shit when he goes crazy rage OTT over the bit on the side that he wishes was his steady, without much consideration for either of their feelings. And they then expect people to have sympathy for him? I understand that there's this teen romance thing going on, and I'm not necessarily objecting to Mako stringing both girls along as he takes his sweet time picking one, just that they're also trying to make him a sympathetic heartthrob character at the same time and it just doesn't work for me.

ANYWAY, enough of the relationship talk. I think in this instance we'll just have to like it or lump it and hope that the romance gets better/more convincing or doesn't torpedo the finale.

I said before on how unfortunate the portrayal is being shown as it could have been him caring in a overbearing way for anyone of the people he considers close friend/family but instead its teen drama/romance related.

Now its sowing the seeds of doubt in Asami's mind and if its brought up it will also sow the seeds of doubt in Mako as well.

Its sad that they still haven't clicked yet so not only do they suck combat wise they are not as good as a team/family either and i hope Season 2 will help with that since its sorely needed imo

It's not even about the shipping. It's about how terrible Team Avatar is in Legend of Korra.

I am kind of glad they showed that the bending-removal doesn't actually have a lightshow. We can safely drop the theories about whether or not Amon was hoaxing people with a temporary block and whatnot.
