Yeah, like this was some grand, historic, meaningful event. Obama likely just found out who the Bruins were and that had won "a cup" hours before the photo-op. Overall, perhaps, it would have been better for Timmy to just go to avoid this manufactured controversy, but personally, I don't really care either way.

he knows who the Bruins are, especially after hosting the Chicago Blackhawks the year before and being happy that a Chicago team won something

LOL Tim Thomas, quite selfish. Team victory, team loss, team gets commemorated? Nope, it's a solo thing now.

But to be honest, I would've applauded any Duck who chose to not hang out with Bush.

Bottom line though is that an NHL commemoration is nothing political. There's no agenda being pushed, there's no rally of support for anything.. It's just the White House and the President commemorating a goddamn NHL team, which makes it more about the sport than anything political. Don't be a douchenozzle, just help support our sport in any way you can.

are the ducks putting up complete games? I see they're winning, but do they look good while doing so?

with the talent on that team and now the secondary scoring is showing up, I can see that team being one of the better ones out there and maybe making a run for 8th!? is it insane to say? what do they need point wise to land an estimated 8th place spot in the playoffs?

Mostly playing a complete game, definitely making less mistakes and skating with more confidence. Beauch and Fowler have inconsistent chemistry, which sucks for puck moving and can often lead to a turnover at a REALLY bad time, but the RPG line are most certainly back to their former glory. PK is looking great, Selanne on the PP is dangerous, Hiller is standing tall and acting like his old All-Star self, all combine to make the team as deadly as they should be.

That's just in regards to the past 8 games though.

I believe the Federal government has grown out of control, threatening the Rights, Liberties, and Property of the People.
This is being done at the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial level. This is in direct opposition to the Constitution and the Founding Fathers vision for the Federal government.
Because I believe this, today I exercised my right as a Free Citizen, and did not visit the White House. This was not about politics or party, as in my opinion both parties are responsible for the situation we are in as a country. This was about a choice I had to make as an INDIVIDUAL.
This is the only public statement I will be making on this topic. TT

from tim thomas

what a fucking idiot! i'm not going to this due to political reasons, but i'm choosing not to go not because of politics

he has lost all of my respect

MacAttacks place?

Then again, you can kinda get the whole "PROUD AMURRRRCAN" angle he's going for just by looking at his helmet.

I'm slightly relieved to see it's not to do with a particular party and is just a blanket statement against the Federal government itself.

Whew, glad I waited for his statement on that to make up my mind, it certainly clears everything up: he's a dick.

I was hoping Thomas got lambasted for being a political shrill...and so it begins. Pretty extreme views to follow.

Slava Malamud's (writer for NHL.com) twitter feed:

"Pretty sure Tim Thomas wasn't there. Can anyone confirm?"
"If Tim Thomas really did boycott the White House event, this should be a story. Did any president have to deal with this kind of disrespect?"
"And don't tell me this has nothing to do with race. This utter, uncompromising hatred of the President is something I've never seen before"
"Pretty sure 99% of US-born NBA players are Dems ('cause, you know, black), but they showed their asses up at WH to meet Bush. Unbelievable"
"Screw you, Tim Thomas, and all the "me patriot, you traitor" crowd that breeds this hatred. You are not Americans and never will be."
"Next time there is a GOP President (if ever) I hope an entire NBA or college team boycotts the hell out of him. Will never happen, tho"
"This animal hatred of the man got to the point that merely standing on a stage next to him is some kind of an insult. Tim, you are an idiot."

Could be, but it kind of comes off as damage control too. Usually when I see someone playing the "both parties are to blame for this mess" card, it ends up being they're hiding behind neutrality to avoid showing their partisan bias. But that's just me.

Either way, he's still selfish for trying to turn this into a political statement and not being there with his teammates.

playing the race card is just as dumb as anything thomas said or did

I'm not one to get hung up on politics or religion. Apparently, Thomas and the rest of the internet is. The guy brought me a Cup, he's done enough.

In this case sure but it's pretty naive to say that him being black hasn't contributed to his hate in sections of this country.

It's the same argument that many Tea Partiers attempt to make themselves seem nonpartisan and more credible, but it still does have everything to do with it being Obama in office.

Playing the race card is excessive, but you can't equate some twitter comment to what Thomas has done.

I wonder if all the Canadians on the Bruins would've gone for dinner with Stephen Harper........
Were it a tradition to meet with the Prime Minister each year, irrespective of party, I'd expect them to. It's not an opportunity for political grandstanding.

Perhaps, Timmy will go next year with Mitt in the White House?...
Why would the Canucks invite Thomas and Romney to visit Obama with them?

Fuck. I used to like Tim Thomas. Now my shortlist of non-Detroit players I like is down to:

* Teemu Selanne
* Henrik Lundqvist
* Jaromir Jagr

i didn't really care about the whole tim thomas thing, but then i found out that he's a glen beck fan.

it's like finding out that the cool neighbor down the street that you really like is actually a child molester.

I really don't care about Thomas's politics. As long as you don't soapbox about it (and I don't think he is), I don't give a shit.

Yeah, I wasn't making a statement or anything, I was genuinely curious. Even as a Canadian, I was wondering myself what I would do.

TIM THOMAS HAS OPINIONS STOP HIM.

as long as he's fun to watch on the ice I don't really care that he "snubbed" obama

I don't mind that he's Republican or hates Obama, but he didn't have to be such a drama queen about it.

He could've kept it low key and went while keeping firm his beliefs. But my skipping out on it completely, especially when he was the[/I ] star player of the team, while posting a release basically saying "I didn't skip out because of political reasons, but I skipped out because of political reasons", is entirely bush league.

The man clearly wanted this day to be about him and his political beliefs, not about his team. Fuck that shit. We don't need that in hockey.

I don't care about his opinions

I care that he decided to make a celebration as a team, which is a tradition, and turned it into a personal political protest

For someone who declined to go to the white house for non political reasons, he just couldn't help but spread the stupidity of his political beliefs

He insulted Obama, pissed on the federal government, sure. But I'm more pissed that he embarrassed the sport of hockey
