Halo: Campaign Evolved - Review Thread

Without watching the video what are his basic complaints?

For me being a massive Halo fan, I'm finding it hard to find any real tangible issues with the game (barring some bugs). I feel the way the health system is handled in this one is not as good as the original and perhaps you could have some complaints with how the weapons compare to the original, but fundamentally the game plays like a Halo game. Yes it's not 1 to 1 with the original but it was never meant too, it's a remake not a remaster and I feel the purists are just not getting that.

IMO it's a great game and is being bashed simply because it's Halo made by Xbox.
Halo 1 was my favorit game at one point. Loved the world, mystery, music and gameplay

This is a Temu version what I loved

The cutscenes feel AI-directed and the overall feel of the story is ridiculous. The feel totally out of place and actively destroy the story being told, also they are not even in game engine
The gameplay, while similar, feels chaotic compared to Halo 1, since they seem to just have inserted extra enemies. Oh and the flood? you can sprint past them before they even react
The music mix seems destroyed and often you barely hear the music

It looks suitably good though, and ran fine for me on a 5080. No technical issues at all

6/10 - would rather play MCC version of the original

I think the reduction in music surprised me the most. Marty O'Donnell's score was so integral to the experience of playing Halo. It added so much. I can't imagine toning that down.

Some decent points here, although not AI I think the cutscenes were probably outsourced which would explain why they're rendered offline and seen a little off with the editing.

For me I'd say the combat is more dynamic now (dynamic objects, enemies can board vehicles etc) and given it's using the Halo Reach AI presumably so the AI could adapt to the features here that were only introduced to later Halo's. I do agree that the original AI did have some advantages though but were more readable due to having less responses and perhaps that's what you miss here.

I disagree with the audio mix, it sounds fantastic on my atmos system and the dialogue is certainly clearer than in Combat Evolved. Just to touch on being able to run past enemies, that is a problem and after many hours I don't think they should have had sprint in at all, the base movement speed is fast enough IMO.
