Based on where things appear to be headed due to 'market conditions', I would expect a Switch 2 OLED to be $600. It wouldn't surprise me if the RAM issue caused another price increase in 2027 to $550, and an OLED screen will add another $50. I wouldn't be shocked by $650 either....

It baffles me why on launch we don't get the OLED version. Why do we have to wait for different versions? Give me the flagship first then release whatever other version you want

I have had my Switch 2 for a couple of months and have played the shit out of it. I really don't have any issues with the screen at all. It is not the greatest screen ever, but I was expecting much, much worse. Maybe it is my old eyes and I thought I read it is more noticeable on 2d games, but I have not seen any ghosting.
That said, I would 100% upgrade to an OLED model when released.

Anyway when I want a better screen I just connect the Switch to one so I feel no FOMO over this. A bit envious of the EU version with removable battery, though.

My guess is they want to use it as a 'premium' bullet point feature to encourage first gen buyers to double dip, as well as a reason to raise price( which is something I expect they'll do again anyway in 2027, on top of the one that's coming in September 26). Frankly, and I could be saying this out of ignorance, OLED screens have been showing up in smart phones and android handhelds for years so I don't really look at this as these prestige thing anymore, but Nintendo seems to( or at least it's part of how they market a mid-gen hardware refresh).

OLED is very advanced from LCD and better looking in every possible way there is. It has nothing to do with prestige, it's all about we have something that is the standard now so use it.

The Switch 2 OLED is going to be the Switch 2 Pro, and is coming at the same time or close as the PS6 Portable

What is more likely is a revision that is on 6nm or even better which will double battery life, so a v2, and a Lite. Then release an OLED model in 2029.
I hope they're using a better OLED display this time around. Switch OLED had a shitty display and I don't understand how people can glaze it this much. Yeah, it's miles ahead of the LCD of the Switch 1 but the dithering and banding in near dark or dark grey scenes looked horrible (I personally couldn't play Metroid Dread on it, I'd rather have smearing). It used the same shit OLED that the SteamDeck OLED uses.

I figured Switch 1 revision fell into the same category as the like 20 or so PS2 revisions. It was a silent update not marketed as a different product, so I figured that's where we draw the line.
I'll give you the lite though. Thing fell completely off my radar. Doesn't even switch.

I think you misread what I said, or I expressed myself in a way that led you to believe I was justifying them doing it. When I say 'OLED screens are used in smart phones and cheap android handhelds', the point I was attempting to make is that Nintendo should be similarly treating it as a standard feature in their handhelds, instead of using a comparatively sub standard LCD and then using the OLED Screen as a dangling carrot for hardware revisions.
I was actually agreeing with your core point that I wish the OLED was at launch, either as the standard or a higher priced option( the LCD Switch $449, OLED $499 or whatever the case).

I wonder if Nintendo is considering a dockless release. One thing the Lite had going for it was the $199 price. What would the Switch 2 lite be in 2026/27? $399? I was shocked to see that Nintendo sells the official dock for $150. I had no idea it was that much. Perhaps a regular size Switch 2 with internal battery( and OLED???) with both dock and no dock SKUs? I can't imagine Nintendo would want no sub $500 options on the market as the generation goes.

They need like a $350 SKU but that won't happen in current market. So maybe a $400 one with preferably USB-C output that could be docked with additional 1st party or 3rd party docks.

I'm really looking forward to the OLED Switch 2. It'd be good if it has at least double the storage but I'd like to see a 1Tb model as well.
And if the current dock can't be updated to support VRR then I'd like to see the OLED model come with a new dock that had VRR support. Also, I'd want all OLED models to have a replaceable battery regardless of where they're sold.

IMO it's a very good LCD. Not sure I would bother with an exchange for OLED unless there was some other significant improvement (e.g. 50% more battery)

Thing is, the dock doesn't really cost that much to make, the retail price is like pure margin so I don't think removing it would help that much. Probably costs as much as the 65w charger to put in the box. It might not be worth it to them to fragment their "it's a GAME CONSOLE that also switches" gimmick that brought us the comically giant console-sized plastic dock when a cable will do, it's for the optics.

I realize I'm probably about the only one who feels this way but I'm glad. I prefer the OG Switch to the OLED model. I tend to use it handheld in low light conditions where I'm turning down the brightness already and not a fan of the black frame insertion either. For actual hours-long handheld gaming and not oooohing at how sexy it looks, I'll take the first version.
So if they forced me to pay extra for OLED on Switch 2 it would be pretty lame.
Yes they could really keep the price down by not having any screen, battery, dock, joycons, hdmi cable, power cable , cart slot, ...
You know they've thought about it at least.

The chances of Nintendo chasing specs in a revision are approximately 0%. Whenever they do put out a revision with a die shrink, expect them to invest most of the gains back into battery life, just like they did with Mariko on the Switch. I suspect they are about as worried about the performance gap between Sony's handheld and the Switch 2 as they were when the 3DS was declared DOA prior to launching against the Vita for the same price tag. For better or worse, Nintendo is focused on Nintendo and tend to do their own thing.

If they're willing to sell a SKU de-coupled from the dock, I could see the current model at $400 but more likely $450 without the dock and a pack-in title. I'm sure the $50 hike in September is less than what they really want, but they're afraid of what a $550 tag would do while they're trying to grow the userbase. Whether or not to have a dockless SKU is one of the few hardware choices within their control not bound by 'market conditions'.
