First The 90's Arcade Racer gameplay

Indie does what Sega-wont.

Looks super similar to Daytona, even the car vibrating up and down the whole time, cant wait to give this one a try.

looks exactly like Daytona USA which is potentially a good thing if they can get a grip on the handling (no pun intended). From the pivoting of the car, so the bouncing/vibrating up and down. Also reminded me a bit of Burning Road from back on the PSone

Totally forgot about this game. Used to have so much fun playing it, especially with that hood cam. I don't remember there only being three tracks. Pretty crazy considering the amount of time I played it. Must have been way more easily entertained back then.

Looks glorious. Beautiful, colourful and completely nailing that retro Dreamcast era Sega blue skies aesthetic. The only criticism I have is the linear structure of the track. It looks like you're just speeding down a straight corridor barely turning at all. If this team can make the tracks more varied and more fun to traverse I'd be much more interested.

Plenty of development time still to go though. Hope this turns out amazing and fulfills the promise of those early screens when the project was first announced.

Pride Rock? :)

Got to play a little Daytona at an arcade this weekend. Coming back and watching this footage again, I agree with the posters saying the sense of speed isn't quite there and the drifting looks a little loose.

Still incredibly excited about this game tho.

Presumably the game will be more interesting once there's a bunch of AI cars to jostle with on the wide-open areas. It's bound to look empty until those are finished and added to the mix.

Yeah I do agree. It's still early days. This is the first footage they've yet released so there's still ample development time to go where they can possibly iterate the tracks and add more compelling features like versus AI that will hopefully make the game more exciting.

I'll be following this project avidly regardless. It's giving me flashbacks to Daytona on the Dreamcast and that's definitely a good thing.

It's kind of disappointing that they're trying to directly emulate games like daytona 2 and scud race rather than their spirit. I know that's the whole point of this project but I'd prefer it if they tried to make a game with an identity of it's own instead of pandering so strongly to my love of these games, because honestly it doesn't look nearly as much fun. It's too slow, the drifting looks too simplistic and controlled, and the courses aren't interesting beyond the nostalgic background elements. Visually it takes the 'blue skies' thing to an obnoxious extreme where everything is garish and hyper-saturated and the music is simply uninspired.

I'd be lying if I said this didn't tickle my nostalgia bone, but when I can play Daytona 2 and Scud race on my PC already thanks to emulation, this will be a hard sell.

As someone who is trying approach this from all objective angles, I can say the post above probably sums up my current feelings towards 90's Arcade Racer the best. Indeed it will be a hard sell, especially when the *real* Daytona 2, OutRun 2, and Super GT are just a mouse click away.

Furthermore, it's quite a shame most Sega arcade racing fans have either overlooked or are completely oblivious to another arcade racer that best mimics the handling and physics of Sega's arcade racers better than any other game I've played recently.....that game would be GRID 2.
