GTA VI physical edition won't include discs

all the billion dollar franchises could easily do the same: CoD, FIFA, Madden etc.
I stopped buying C.O.D because they implemented a key only on the disc, after buying every previous release. I only bought C.O.D solely for the campaign and even that is vomitous now.

So... it seems like this time the physical box won't even have a map included like in previous games. I guess it kinda makes sense since it'll arrive on November 12 and Rockstar don't want to spoil the map 1 entire week before release but still...
Pack it up boys, the "physical" edition is literally useless this time around, if you really want this game there's no need to get out of your house and go to a store to buy it.

It is probably both, but as a consumer, I am excited to know there will not be leaks 2 weeks before launch. Rockstar will have gamers going in practically blind
That worries me immensely because I want to know how polluted the game is with D.E.I sloppy slop. I'm worried about another potential Dragon Age: The Veilguard IP piggy back scenario.

The code for physical is shit but the locked content only avsilable for the super edition are even worse.

Rockstar better pray they have a masterpiece on their hands.

If it was ever about convenience, digital would have had a lesser price. It was always about control and blocking resale.

The big problem with prices with digital was Gamestop and other similar retail stores.
Because these stores did not wasn't to be undercut, they literally told anyone that put games on Steam a a lower price than on our stores, will be banned.
At a time when physical was the absolute dominant force, this meant Steam and every other publisher had to comply.

Are people like rushing to go preorder a digital game? What's the point? I want to see at least some actual gameplay videos first.
Trained habit and behaviour.

Preordering made some sense when you'd expected a niche game to arrive in limited physical quantities or be scarcely distributed. It makes zero sense when its digital nowadays. The availability is constant and supply is practically speaking unlimited.

AAA is just taking this to a whole new level of greed.

If GTA really doesn't get a physical disc release anymore, other publishers will follow. Depending on when it comes out, the next generation might already not have disc drives anymore.

Back in the day - like the 1990s - there were situations where a game could be scarce, even a popular game, at launch, because the store only ordered enough copies to cover preorders and a bit on top that got all snatched up (because the game was popular). Like this was a real thing and you had to wait a week until the next shipment. This hasn't been a thing for most games for 20 years, though, and with digital it's just absurd. I can preorder the game five minutes before it launches and get it and all the bonuses that come with preordering.

Exactly people against Switch 2 game key cards will have to not buy this too.

Otherwise they are hypocrites.

I'll bring up GTAVI every single time someone complains about a game key card.

Just to ask that person if they bought it.

Yall better boycott. Nintendo fans are watching you, lol. We know you will fail and we will win. Begin. Boycott of GTA game key card for ps5 starts when?
Jim Carrey What GIF

The greatest game ever made is also a big step for anti-consumer behaviour in the industry.
I am still hyped and the game will probably be game of the generation material but this definitely leaves a sour taste.

This will be the only game for a long time I will be buying day 1 and that's just because of the name. All the other companies that follow suit can fuck themselves in the ass.
Will only wait for sales after this release and thankfully game sharing is an option so I can just buy once and share it on two consoles with my brother.
This industry can get fucked.

Pc players be like dawg, i dont have a single disk since shit knows how many years

But at least on PC it's scalable with whatever hardware you'll have in the future alongside mods. Games that are >20 years old still get love from community.

Rockstar will make you pay for GTA 6 on PS5, PS6, PS7..

Physical media is the biggest advantage of consoles. With it you:

- own the game
- can sell it
- can buy it at much lower price than on digital stores
- can rent it

With GTA6 you only have:

- own the game
- can sell it

- can buy it at much lower price than on digital stores
- can rent it

But I doubt price of GTA6 will drop anytime soon after launch.

Blockchain would solve all of the digital negatives

Handshake of millions of transactions every minutes and could easily tackle digital ownership.

Why there's no uproar over this is mind boggling to be honest.

  • You could sell the game digitally.
  • Ownership transfer, simple as that.
  • Give the blockchain to gamestop even for resell.
  • Timed ownerships for even a return of rentals.
  • Share it with a friend while retaining ownership.
You know, all things we could do with physical. Why the fuck digital has not went there yet is mind boggling.

I guess because the fleecing is too good and they actually hate the principles of physical, which allows for sharing, selling, buying old, etc. Seem they don't want to give those features to digital while the technology is 100% there.

You can actually resell game key card

It's more pro consumer by far than a digital code

Grand Theft Auto VI will not have a physical disc copy, all versions of the game will be digital. They're truly pushing the industry forward in a brave new direction for major releases.

Let's see how gaming websites react to this.
Pushing the 'physical is dead' narrative when they often don't even sell a disc copy.

They don't sell in stores most of the time.

A and AA games (and some AAA games) come out with physical a month or two after digital release. They want you to buy digital (more profit) and then double-dip on physical.

Oh....but 'physical is dead!!'

It's not being 'Brave'......Fuck them.

The AAA industry is pretty much dead. (creatively and business-wise)

Seems like other than having a box art and a physical package to place in a shelf, there's basically no point in ordering the physical release.
Yeah that sucks, this will be the first GTA I don't preorder. Well, times are different now anyway. Not like the midnight launch of GTA 4 when you wanted to make sure you secured a copy on release day as it sold out in my neck of the woods.

I mean I'm sure I'll day one this, but with such a bitter taste. The last digital Xbox game I bought was cyberpunk on release and we know how that went....

The best outcome for the digital version would be Play Anywhere support for the inevitable PC version but lol.... that ain't happening!

And I bet they did it only to avoid leaks in the 3 or 4 days before launch.
Like it's gonna sell less than a bazillion anyway.

Bunch of fuckers.
It also just so happens to completely kill the used market.

GTA V was probably the most bought/sold aftermarket game in history, and now that's over.

Nintendo's key card system at least let's you sell the "license."
