Graphical Fidelity I Expect This Gen

I have a more curious question
where the hell is AO?
this.
The new screens, at least those that look like they could be from actual gameplay look absolutely flat in comparison to the bullshots. The AO in general is just....mediocre at best. Could be that we`re looking at another "Indy" situation, where RTGI is at play, but with such low res/castrated BVH that a lot of objects get excluded/noised out.

Rockstar's pre-launch bullshots tend to be surprisingly close to the actual gameplay, albeit with one major touch-up: carefully positioned light sources+ and a newly acquired lighting upgrade: soft lighting technique [akin to controlling the light using flags]
they flood the scene with a deluge of light sources, rays, and reflections to make the image appear grand and impressive; the rest is practically the same as gameplay
[see the GTAV promotional images below]

but still quite different from and not as impressive as the screenshots they published with the second trailer

I am just waiting on the trailer to clear up my confusion

As an ignorant in light systems i have to ask, isnt possible that that downgraded pic of the house is not just a different, more sunny, time of the day?

It kinda just look like a yellowish color filter...

Most of the shots are still good to great.

We need viveks86 viveks86 SlimySnake SlimySnake and Bojji Bojji imput here

I am curious too

I do have a feeling that the pc version will look like the og trailers with raytracing but the console versions will be downgraded
Hard to say for sure without seeing in motion or at least similar pics of that nature. The time of day and yellow hues versus blue sky and extremely harsh shadows is not a good way to compare. Given the other screenshots, RTGI is certainly still there. But something definitely feels off about the other screenshots. The assets/characters are being made to look near photorealistic while the lighting system itself is still not path traced, making it all a bit like DLSS 5. Their previous marketing shots (which also screamed bullshots) did not have this uncanniness to it. Could certainly be someone in marketing going overboard with filters. I'd rather wait till the trailer before drawing any conclusions

Maybe they did like rdr2 that on console had settings that were lower than low on pc.
they AO in PS4 version of RDR2 was respectable but the open world of Red dead with fewer objects and vast landscapes is hardly comparable to the intricate and highly populated GTAVI map
that's what concerns me about these new images
and the fact that Rockstar knows better than to include those images on the website so either they are tempering expectations or they just being tasteless

I just want to thank god for keeping me alive until i could see graphics like this:

i can now die happy.
I'd like to know your opinion: do you think those lighting conditions are actually what we will experience in-game, as in streets flooded with light sources and reflections and a great depth of field, when applicable?

Well i guess i'm lucky if they tone down the lights but keep the assets and characters on the same level, i know people prefer the opposite but i'm all about assets and shit, one time the DMW even got me a wrong license plate with ASSET MAN written on it 🥲

I trust your judgment or Bojji's more than any member of digital retardy

I personally enjoyed the second trailer so much that if the final game ends up bearing a 70-80% resemeblance to it, I'll be more than pleased
It was the most awe-inspiring, feel-good, sense-tingling, and excitement-inducing trailer I have ever seen

I don't even have a PS5 because I am broke as hell but I still get excited even watching the trailer every time , like I am on a vacation to distant childhood memories that I could have had

I liked the first trailer more, more tecnically impressive shots and scenes imo.

Also better song.

I mean, like I can't reconcile the blue hue/lighting of the interior with a realistically behaving external light source that has cast that hue onto the ENTIRE interior
there's a huge bright light at the top left which should cancel out the hue to some extent
don't get me wrong it is beautiful but not possible in in-game circumstances unless touched up to some extent

The graphics have an exaggeratedly cartoonish look. What happened?
Good art direction, imo. The console versions will surely have rough edges. Having a distinct art direction will make those rough edges less noticeable

You also have to factor that this is a brutally violent game. There is a large portion of the gaming audience that doesn't want hyper realism when mowing down civilians. I am just hoping for a similar gore system as RDR2, but it is possible that the game would not hit a mature rating if they did that

All Rockstar games have had cartoonish looking characters. RDR2 is the only that kinda broke that rule
Except for arthur all the other faces were pretty ugly, never understood if it was an artistic choice or just a an hardware limit.

I mean we had this in the same console that run ue5 metahumans in a gigantic open world

JAYZUS, people in this thread have insanely high standards (and that's why I love this thread). Fucking GTA6 itself is being dragged through the mud and this is just based off of screenshots too, lol.

my guy has been doing that for the past decade whoever he/she is. that;s just how Rockstar has been doing promotional images sicne GTAIV
True. But the previous marketing shots looked so natural. Now all the characters are straight up studio lit, floating in the scene, disconnected from everything 🤮

I think there is understandable anxiety around the potential for downgrade and the rumored 60 fps. All will be clear tomorrow

What is really surprising is how some people keep falling for the same, old, bullshot tactics.
We have had so many examples of bullshots, in the last 2 decades, misrepresenting the real world graphics.
It has happened so many times, and somehow, some people just keep eating the same crap every time.

Yeah, but no game has image quality like that. What Represent. Represent. posts:

Doesn't look much different than offline renders using in game assets.
I think they are in-game photomode using their camera/cinematic tools. Not seeing any signs of post process fuckery. Just a lot of artificial lights and pristine IQ, which also could be an in-engine feature for photomode.

Those screenshots are clear bullshots, and everyone that has seen Ubisoft, EA, Sony, MS bullshots before - should recognize this in 1s.

Character faces look almost like GenAi on some of them. Weird stuff.

Reminding people about bullshots of the past:

I think the overly-lit nature of these screenshots with the (seemingly) pink/green/red tint saturation is made to fit the stylistic choice of the "Ultimate Edition content", they are all labeled as "Ultimate Edition" in their screenshots website page.

Weird way to begin showing more of the game, I guess they have to market the pre-order announcement in some way. I bet we will almost certainly get Trailer 3 tomorrow! They will blow us away like always.

technically speaking, the bullshot detecting aspect of the human cognition relies heavily on one's degree of familiarity with the typical look of each engine :messenger_grinning_squinting:
but yes, marketing-wise, it has been done so many times by every single studio out there that it is now common sense to treat every image with skepticism

Lets not forget as well that Cyberpunk on pc with Path Tracing is a complete different game from the ps5 version. Comparing GTA5 console version to Cyberpunk 2077 with mods is not fair in any way
Fair or not, i would expect a nextgen only, rockstar game with 2 bil budget and 6 years later to not lose in a comparison tho...

I can understand the lack of PT, but realistically it should not lose in ANY other aspect.

especially after setting the expectations so high themselves, saying the game will only come out when it is the defintion of "perfection"
and after releasing that mouth-watering second trailer that had so many details and so much fidelity that I would see it within my right to riot if they downgrade the visuals.
they shouldn't have shown it off the way they did then in the first place

I think people are being a bit more optimistic with these bullshots than usual cuz it's Rockstar, and I think understandably so. After all, this is a game that's been in development for like a decade or even more and has cost over a billion dollars which is nuts. That's the only reason I haven't sounded the alarm bells yet.

You know what? Scratch that.

Hopefully gta6 is gonna so much more under the hood that we cant phisically ask for more graphical fidelity on a ps5 even 6 years later, i hope this is the case.
