We're going to have to get comfortable with an unprecedented extension of current gen.

I wouldn't be surprised if the PS5, Xbox Series X, and Switch 2 generation lasts from 2020-2035 and we get a new generation between 2030-2035.

Other hardware manufacturers are struggling like crazy and they're witnessing Steam Machine's PR nightmare in real time.

This is becoming a luxury hobby in the near term and companies will lose a ton of money. We're in for some crazy times.

Just started looking so there's probably better ones out there. I'm wanting to dedicate the machine to AI when not gaming and the models I linked to are well suited for that. Someone should start a thread where we can discuss Steam Machine alternatives.

Nothing is shitty on its own, you need a point of comparison. A new release often puts things in perspective. It's the reason why games you loved younger often "age badly" as you play new stuff and re-evaluate.

I'm not going to say you're wrong. I'm just going to ask if you're limiting yourself. Is it because of hardware FOMO or because you've been playing PC mainly this gen?

Say you bought one and skipped out on the inevitable. $1000 gone and now you're happy because you got a Steam Machine. Capable of playing most titles right now. A few years go by and now new hardware is being announced and maybe even find a PC at a decent cost. You spent the money on this machine and you might be playing everything on medium settings.

Or you're absolutely on point by getting one. It serves your need for hardware. It's such an odd time because prices are atrocious. I work in IT and the servers went from $15-20k to 40k+. Laptops and desktops that were $700-$800 our costs, are now $1500-$1600. No one is buying if they don't have to. It's slowed down my market.

If you're happy, that's all that matters

Not really. Any PC more powerful is much better. Linux on PS5 is still limited only to fat PS5s and firmware up to 6.02.

Why?
If they have a 3060 it's because it's cheap.
If they wanted to spend $1000+ to get something better they could have done so a long time ago.

This thing is neither cheap nor giving you good performance for the price.
