Feels like a long 6 months since I posted this thread. £600 price difference, for not a lot of feature differences if you ask me.

Fucking lol dude.

They're going to sell as many as they can to blind Valve fanboys and hope they can recoup as much of their dev costs as they can. the randomized pre-order process suggests they're making fuck all of them. "selling out" of them will be absolutely hollow. Anyone can make a product launch look successful these days, long term sales are what matters and this machine has no chance with that price tag.

Its not going to sell as many as the PS5? that's a serious understatement. The market for this thing at this price is in the hundreds of thousands, not millions.
Cool so not DOA then.

You seem fairly confident for someone that has no idea what the world of IT is facing right now. Servers, NAND and RAM pricing is going up 30% or more every quarter with no end in site, now PCB's are going up in price. So to assume that you will be able to get your hands on a PS6 that's going to be extremely more powerful than a PS5 at $999 means you will be waiting till 2030 or beyond.

Welcome to the new normal. Even the Switch 2 is $500. There's no way that machine should be more than $350.
Bro, i just bought end of feb brand new rtx 5080 here in poland at over 1500$, current price for same gpu went down 80$, i know perfectly well gabecube is terrible deal for vast majority of gamers, only ppl hunting for small form factor and not caring about price nor performance could bite, so extremly tiny niche :)

Ok, this whole machine is not a GPU, but it has one.

With performance on par as a console released almost 6 yrs ago....

People will say "But Switch 2 is weaker" yes but its a freaking hybrid console and has Nintendo exclusives.

Why bother releasing this? That price is absolutely insane for what you get.

1080P upscaled low-medium settings gaming at barely 60fps for an insane price in 2026 lmaoooooooo

controller not included and also RAM is single channel. F

Why would you buy an obsolete "console"? This is not going to play games the more we go into the future.

This will play old games fine so that's it. A toy to play older games, I simply don't understand why would you buy this and not save this much money for a new PC or PS6/Helix? which are going to decimate Steam Machine in every new game that will come out.

Holy shit, absolutely DoA. Go buy a PS5 Professional.

I also wonder how much of the controller delays are because they're reserving stock for these bundles :messenger_tears_of_joy:

The problem with Steam Machine is that its a device that is suppose to sit in your living room and connected to a 4K TV.

We know how horrible 8GB Vram performs at 1440p, let alone 4K.

There is a way that Valve could make this more appealing, to give away some games with it.
The problem is that Valve no longer makes games. But if they had something like the Orange Box, it would make this price point a lot more palatable.

It would be playable on all devices anyway so i dont see a difference tbh.

If anyone legit expected it to be less than this, where were you this whole time? Lmao.

I mean, look at the current price of the Steam Deck. Why would a Steam Machine (that is said to be 6x stronger) be cheaper than that? Or SLIGHTLY more. That wouldn't make sense.

"But competition..." Sure, but the PC/tech component market has been trash for awhile now. Multiple sources said they were planning to drop this awhile ago, but then they hesitated due to surging costs. I don't blame them, it just really sucks.

I'm sure they're prepared to drop prices when and if the market shifts. But at the moment this is the best they can do. At least, I'd hope so, lol.

For highest tier price i got Ultra 7 270k+, 32GB DDR5 6000MT/s and RTX5060Ti 16GB GDDR7, and it just smokes that steam machine, fuck thats ridiculous, i wonder how Gabe stans gonna defend this.

These will sell out no matter what the price. That's just the sad truth.

I had the brilliant idea of buying a gaming laptop instead of a Steam Machine, and it was a spectacularly shit decision.

Picked up a Lenovo Legion with a 5070 less than a year ago, right before prices went completely insane. The fans on that thing are loud as hell and instantly murder any immersion or desire to game. Even with a cooling pad underneath (that adds further bulk) the fan speeds needed to keep the laptop calm are still louder than I would like.

I've thought about going small form factor PC, but I'm convinced there won't be enough room in those tiny cases to keep any card worth a damn both cool and quiet.

So yeah… guess it's time to man up, buy a Steam Machine, and just bend over so Gaben can pump me full of his Gabies.

RT is the issue with the Steam Machine.

That GPU can't really do RT and forget AMD upscaling and FG tech, it's much behind Nvidia's software.

Any game which "requires"/compulsory RT like DOOM Dark Ages and more in the future will decimate this device. Absolutely sub 30fps.

Did you build or buy prebuilt? If you bought prebuilt, where did you order it from?

Gabe wins again:messenger_tears_of_joy: Give him money for a new yacht.
He owns the yacht company.

I'm not gonna lie. £879 isn't bad in this mess. I thought it would be 999.

I would guess they were targeting 649 to 699 before, which would have sold boatloads.

Ahhh, simpler times.
You were begging people to boycott PS5 Pro because it was missing a disk drive and 699£, but this underspec'd offering without even a controller would have been fine at 649-699?

It's quite something..

The more time passing today the more pissed off I am at this whole thing. What a joke of a console, the prospect at this price and missing key parts is downright embarassing.

I'm actually taking the stance of, you don't have a clue about tech or money if you buy this thing.

Get a pc, never look back.
