What game are you currently playing?

I downloaded FFVI and Gitaroo Man earlier today with the plan being to dive into Final Fantasy tonight. I decided I'd play the first stage of Gitaroo Man and ended up playing through the whole thing. Damn I miss the PS2 era of games and Japanese quirk. I'd inject that ish right into my veins if I could.

I just tried it and want to love it, seems like my kind of thing and I'm here for the weirdness. But it has absolutely unplayable input lag. 3rd stage and it drops my inputs, timing is all fucked up. No option to sync up the input lag either.

Still Ghost of Yotei

Got my very first PlayStation Platinum baby. Lets see what new game+ has to offer

Skyrim
...
The longer I play it the stronger I dislike it. Just like with Morrowind. Remade the same procedural like stuff TES always liked, just as handmade crap.
The terrain is terrible, always awkward to get anywhere.
Cities looking jarring, with insanely steep stairs and barely anything that looks like natural architecture and town layouts.
Dawnguard the vampire hunter hq is housed by two people while one of the more impressive thick walled castles?
Many people and traders always shut themselves into their house at night so waiting pointlessly just to have the pointless day night cycle simulation.
A lot of geoemtry with gaps at all those mountains and a lot of places where you can get stuck in some odd recess. It is rather forgiving in running down extreme cliffs though. Unless you actually drop a huge way, dieing on any inhuman descent is barely possible. Unrealistic but at least that direction is not cumbersome.
Everything hostile scattered randomly over the entire map. No liberation of zones so far, just single map points.
Nothing having any character, just filled with filler. Less verstile than Morrowind even.
Sometimes dead bodies and loot disappear almost immediately, sometimes not.
Sometimes two dragon spawn at once. Which is a rather odd fight. Since the dragon mechanics are anyway meh, two at once is shite. Being fried from two sides...
Practically all fighting is done best with an object in between as proper shield. Some dragons are kinda easy to defeat, while some sewer rat can still kill me easily. No sense of progression and sense of threat in any way.
Items and weapons are boring. Played now half the game with one mace for regular use, and dragonbane for the dragons. Body armor unchaged even loinger. Only helmet and necklaces got better versions. Far apart though. I remember in Gothic I upgraded every few hours swords, axes, two handers, getting better stats and also nicer visual design. Since there are ton of enchantments there are many iterations but not many actually different designs.
Reloading works only every other time, often loading not the latest safe. Often not loading automatically at all.
Killing a quest character might result in him walking through the picture alive just a moment later.
Some quest seem to miss a trigger and can't be progressed.
The quality reminds me more of the infamous Vampire Bloodlines, which was not even that bad imho, than a several times remastered GOTY.
Skyrim's vastness is its biggest problem. Everything reachable from the start and thus designed with a garbage autoscaling system and random objects everywhere.
The main story is extremely watered down by doing fetch quests until the end. Get me 7 great soulstones, get me 20 berries, search 20 ninroot, bring this letter to person xy ... WTF... I already fought Alduin once, and won, and there is no proper shift in the world at all. Dragons are easier to kill then some random vampire or whatever in some random cave.
They should have cut 80 of the mountainy map and add at least a bit of actual variety, some swamp, desert in the south whatever. There are a lot of maybe interesting sidequests, but it is buried under a ton of boring generic bs.

People buying this shit is the reason why games are so huge but empty today. Instead of doing proper design, just fill it with stuff and jerk off to engagement numbers. ugh

I didn't have a ton of problems acclimating to it, but I've always been terrible at it anyway (PS2 and PSP versions).

I started FFXVI last night and played some more this evening. I just met Cid so I'm early on. It's such a weird game. All the environment are brown and drab which reminds me of 360 era of games and most of the art direction feels really generic (let's throw some shitty tattoos on everyone's faces to spice things up!). I get the influence for the tone, but it really doesn't feel like Final Fantasy which makes the transformations and fights against Ifrit and Shiva all the more jarring. I'm sure they'll add more to this action combat, but the limitations in moves makes it super boring so far. No challenge to the normal encounters and the break guard mechanic on bosses just drags on too long and feels tedious. The Phoenix vs Ifrit fight was also boring. And speaking of boring, the cutscene to gameplay ratio would make Kojima blush. I'm not sure if I'll keep playing.

I just got the platinum in nier automata. I've always heard about nier but went in pretty blind and had no idea what type of game it was or what the story was about. Oh boy was it an experience. Having the multiple playthrough was very interesting, even if sometimes a slow burn. After route A, I was a little confused on why it seemed the story ended so abruptly and if there was key pieces I was missing. Then, Starting route B while it's very similar kept me engaged as the side missions really started to shine there, and took you in the psychology of the machine and really helped build the back story. Then route C just gave a fantastic finish. I'd probably give it like a 9.5/10 and highly recommend.

My only real gripe with the game was the cleanup and trying to get all the trophies. Just so unbelievably annoying rng needed for certain shops to spawn, finding certain materials in certain areas etc. If it was a game that I only thought was good, not great, I would have probably dropped it as it became way too tedious.

The same day I bought automata, I also bought replicant. Will probably jump into that soon, but may take like a week break from the franchise.

Yakuza 6, finally beat Amon, that was by far the hardest fight in the entire game :pie_open_mouth:. Then I swept through the ending, no problem at all. I think I'm gonna hold off on going back through on Legend until I'm done playing the remake of FF7 Before Crisis, though.

If you haven't already done so, go for ending E. Given you enjoyed it that much, it's very special.

Replicant is excellent too, I might actually like it more then Automata. Automata's gameplay is better, but the cast and story of Replicant are just incredible. Regardless, I would take a pretty sizable break between the two so you don't burn out on the formula.

Aw man, really?
Input lag?
That's terrible news, really wanted to play Gitaroo man again, but if this is the case I'm out.
Later stages are evil, so lag would render them almost impossible.
I wonder what other people's experiences have been like?

Might just be my setup, but yeah input lag combined with the slight delay if you mess up means you can get chained into some really bad spots.

Have you played any of the other Yakuza games (not counting the trash after Yakuza 6)?

Yakuza 6 Amon is by far the easiest of them all, Yakuza 6 is also the easiest of all the Yakuza games to 100% as well.

I haven't played all of the ones after 6 but the ones I have I've actually liked them. So 7/Like a Dragon and Judgment (haven't done everything in them, though, yet)

I've played all of the ones before 6, got all the achievements for all of them except for 5, which I'll get back to at some point.

I always go into these fights totally maxed out, so I find the versions of Amon that have a trick to them, like this Amon, to be the toughest. The more or less normal fights are tough too, but not as tough imo. Didn't have a problem with 0, and Kiwami 2 Amon was probably the easiest, in my memory anyway. I think the toughest for me was in 4? Where they give the Amon Saejima faces health regeneration at a certain point.

Other than that one fight though, yeah I agree, pretty easy to get all the achievements.

Not that I'm complaining about this fight btw, I like a challenge.

Continue my RE run. Finished with RE7 and all its DLC. I own capcom and apology on this one. End of Zoe dlc was the hardest. 21 was the most fun.

Now playing early RE8.

Returnal - My God this game is insanely addictive
Zelda Echoes of Wisdom - AKA Zelda does things - very nice but I'm at the end of the game and I start feeling fatigue

I did get all the endings in automata, as it was a requirement for all trophies and yea E was undoubtedly the best, especially with the music at the end (didn't include in my OP but the music in the game overall is just fantastic).

I was thinking of taking a little break too, as I don't wanna get burned out. Your sentiment seems pretty similar to what I've seen regarding the games. Automata better gameplay, Replicant better story, or at least more intriguing characters.

Overall thought, yea great franchise. Took me way to long to give it a chance by glad I did eventually

I'm playing the campaign in Call of Duty® Modern Warfare® from 2019. It's really fun so far. Haven't played many Call of Duty in my life besides Modern Warfare I and II

Starcraft 2 Heart of the Swarm on Brutal difficulty. It is much easier so far.

The conversations between characters are more interesting, this time around.

I played a bunch of the demo of Order of the Sinking Star. Not totally into the art style and some of the dialogue, but I really like the puzzles, and the kinda Myst-like minimalist atmosphere. Definitely gonna get it (y).

I gave the FF7 Before Crisis fan remake a shot. It's pretty amazing that this guy got such a huge amount of content into a free rpg maker game, but also it's a free rpg maker game, with exactly the combat you'd expect, for the most part. So I'm not complaining, but I don't really feel like experiencing it like that.

I think what's next for me is I'm gonna alternate between blasting through Yakuza 6 Legend mode strictly mainlining the story, watching the series of youtube videos where some guy like 15 years ago translated over even older NicoNico footage of original FF7 Before Crisis gameplay, and playing the demos for Scarlet Deer Inn and Veritas Tales: Witch of the Dark Castle, and then if there's time left over the fan remake of King's Quest IV.

Guessing that I'm about halfway through 007 First Light. Loving the game but I had hoped it would have more replay value but it doesn't seem like that kind of game to me. Elliot came in the mail today so once I'm done with 007 I think I will move on to that.

Finished Starcraft 2 Heart of the Swarm on Brutal.

The design was a bit messy. Mainly it was very easy, there were too many spell casters to manage, and my units would clash into each other and get stuck a lot.

I really liked the writing, Kerrigan is very well written here.

Still a great game, but the weakest entry of the three.

I played RoboCop a few days ago. Thought it was pretty decent at first but after a while I got bored and ended up dropping it, if I kept going I don't think I would've enjoyed it much. It's probably a game that works a lot better if you've seen the movies, which isn't the case for me.

And I'll be finishing Crysis 3 this week, it's the only game in the trilogy I still have left to beat. Really fun game overall, the story is okay so far, the gameplay is good and the graphics are still fantastic. Crytek and their engine doing wonders.

Destiny 2 SRL, exotic farming at lost sectors and trying flawless Dungeon clears. Hard af especially Warlord's Ruin, I want that emblem.

I'm 15 or 16 chapters into FFXVI. Not sure I'll continue. The non-boss encounters are so trivial and the boss encounters feel too drawn out which just makes for a boring experience. The story is also struggling to hold my attention.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth + Tom Raider 3 Remastered.

Liking FF more than Remake, it's a more of the same but better in every aspect, so far. Stupid card minigame has no right being this good. XD. Same for the PS1 graphics-like one (Fort Condor, I think?)

TR3, Only played the first level, and it feels more like an evolution of 1. Which I prefered over 2.

Resident Evil 4 Remake
Arrived in the castle after killing Mendes. This playthrough is the first time I have opted against using the Red 9.

Pokemon Pokopia
Just learnt how to make bread and smelt ores of various kinds.

Adventures of Elliot
Haven't played that long. Just picked up the spear.

I liked it too. Here's the cinematics if you don't play RTS:

I've never played ANY of the starcraft games, watched part 2 as a walkthrough many years ago, as I didn't have a PC hefty enough to run it...plus for some reason it never got a console release...I am somewhat interested in checking out Starcraft 1 though

Just finished Caput Mortum. It's a first person horror game, but doesn't control like your average FPS. LT/RT look left and right and LB/RB look up and down. The right stick is dedicated to your right arm for solving puzzles and combat. It takes some rewiring of your brain to unlearn years of muscle memory. I think the puzzles make good use of the control scheme and the combat could have gone further with it. It has a throw back aesthetic that I love and a play through is under two hours so it never wears out its welcome. While it is atmospheric, I don't think it is ever scary. An easy recommendation from as the concept is neat.

Started The Medium today and played for about 2 hours, pretty interesting game so far. The graphics and environments are great, the story has been good and creative so far, and I really like the whole idea of playing in two different worlds at the same time. I haven't gotten into any combat yet, so I don't know how it works, but it's prob gonna be alright.

The only problem I've had is some stuttering here and there, and RT on ultra seems to break the image, I get some weird green stuff showing up in reflections. But overall, good game.

I'm about an hour into A Space for the Unbound. The story might have some interesting beats but the music and the foley work are like nails on a chalkboard. Also, do you like cats? Because whoever created this game sure does and reminds you every 4.5 seconds.

I actually kind of like the story, it gets very Final Fantasy towards the end. The gameplay and most of the sidequests are what let me down. If they could have just had a party and a real battle system, I think it could have been one of the all time great FF games.

The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales

The Zelda-feels are strong with this one. Very fun so far. Lighthearted and cozy, it's such a breeze to just explore the map and cutting down monsters. Beautiful HD-2D graphics, as I'd expect from Square Enix now since they've pretty much mastered the art form, and it has a strong soundtrack to accompany the visuals. Loving it so far.

Syberia Remastered

The original Syberia back in the day is the last game my dad played and finished before he passed away. And I've replayed it yearly as memory to my dad, around this time of the year when he passed away since he passed away(I've replayed it in various forms PC, PS3 and now PS5)

Sorry if this is a bit personal. But my dad would have loved to see Syberia Remastered in all it's glory. It's a literal 1:1 remake of the game. And I love the original and the remaster. Brings back only good memories.

I'm in a Ubi trap HELP! 😆

Currently playing Far Cry 4 & Star Wars Outlaws.
Outlaws maybe rough around the edges in some ways, but still it is the best non-Jedi Star Wars game you can get with a somewhat Uncharted vibe, but not as polished...sad that they won't be able to build upon it with the sequel cancelled...

Have any of you guys finished The Callisto Protocol recently? It's on sale on Steam for a pretty good price but the reviews are still pretty low.

The main complaints seem to be the weak story and the combat, which from what I've read is kind of hit or miss, you either love it or hate it.

I love just walking around the environment.
It's so immersive.
