Gothic Remake |OT| Return to the Colony

I feel like I kinda semi bricked my character. I became a warder and put all my points into strength to equip that one 2h weapon I had. Unfortunately the attacks feel so slow and clunky that despite doing tons of damage I'm constantly dying. And I don't have LP left for 2h training. I would need to make 3 levels but I just don't see where I could farm that much. The main story is kinda rough right now with my semi bricked character. Not sure what to do. I could load an earlier save but are there any 2h weapons which require only around 30 strength? So i have enough points left for the 2h training.

Cant you use 1 hand where you have some mastery (i hope) until you get enough skill points for 2 hand mastery?

2 hand is not really that much better than 1 hand, a bit more damage but way slower.

Yeah discovering that
the menacing looking demon is indeed a menacing demon and the religious zealots were wrong
was top 3 best and most unexpected storytelling moment ever :lollipop_squinting:

Absolutely riveting stuff i must say :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

Honestly I think that the story in this game is not the focus, is the journey and character interactions what makes the game appealing. At least in my opinion

I also don't have 1h mastery. I was mainly spamming firebolts till now but more and more enemies seem to be extremely resistant.

Then i dont know how to help other than doing non-combat focused quests to get xp or just roam the map and kill everything you can with the fire magic until you get enough xp.

I didnt even messed with magic when i understood that you can only replenish mana with potions and sleep, i only enjoy playing magic when mana recharge in some way, i hate being slave of consumables in every game.

Well, tough luck then, because 1H mastery is a PRE REQUIREMENT for 2H mastery.
Also, 2H is absolute garbage until you get to tier 2, which means that it's 30+40 LP needed to make it viable, on top of the 30 that would bring you to 1H mastery.

I read that you can learn it from lee without the 1 hand mastery on reddit...
I think that applied in the original and it's not true anymore here in the remake.

P.S. And when I say "I think" I actually mean I read people making this specific claim. I'm not guessing.

Mana was never an issue thanks to the weed from the swamp camp. I have been using the ones I was suppsoed to sell from that New Camp guy at first. Later I was kinda swimming in ore so I have been just buying them. Also the three daily free ones from the swamp camp helped.

Looks like I'm going New Camp cause I want to specialize in dex, bows, and maybe a little magic later. I got distracted with Undisputed and Lego Batman with my daughter so I started a new game. I installed an autosave mod that is great. If a save fucks me I can go back to one that is only 2 minutes older. Also made it to where I get more LP so that I can get skills that give me QOL without fucking me combat wise. I just unlocked master lockpicker in the New Camp. Some of the underwater locks were annoying the fuck out of me with how long they were taking with limited breath and the rewards ended up sucking. You get better gear off of random dead bodies than chests so far.

Game is awesome overall though!

Lock picking is not that bad. You need to check which of the tumblers affect which others when you move them and ensure they do not go to the extreme left or right and that the tick that jumps up is in the centre - and voila. Unless it gets more convoluted later on, the two chests I tackled so far were easy once I realised how it works.

Lockpicking gets very easy when upgrading lockpicking a couple of levels

I know all of that but i still hate being slave of consumables to recharge my main source of damage, call it idiosyncracy or whatever, we all have our quirks when it comes to videogames :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

I prefer systems where you have a mana recharge rate that you can improve or like a system where you can always use the weak base spell and you have the big ones in cooldown or ready when you do enough damage with the base one, or something kn between these methods, just dont make me chug mana potions for even being able to do a shitty, small fireball.

In terms of simplifying the correct combination, it literally doesn't get any easier than when you upgrade one level, since the "second removal of a connection" is bugged and it's not applied.
And so you can get anything from 15-20 to up to 60+ moves as a bare minum number of moves necessary to open a single lock.
This is without making any mistakes, for the record.

So the 3rd master level is bugged uh? Thank god i didnt wasted any skill point into lockpicking.

Fuck this minigame :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

I have a mana regen mod. I've hated no mana regen since Diablo 2. Also, a very slow health regen when out of combat.

I saw that mod but tbh the game is not tuned for mana recharge so it would probably be too op, and second, i have used a looot of skill points into melee so it is late to turn back and try magic.

(Also from what i saw magic is pretty boring in this game so even if i have mana recharge i would probably still play melee).

Thanks for the info tho.

With another character I was just using mana for the light spell since this game sucks when it comes to not being able to hold a torch in your left hand. I know there is a mod that gives you a hot key, but I use a controller.

You on the computer? there's a save editor floating about. Let's you fix bugged quests, items, skills etc.

There's a local version hosted on github aswell iirc.

I used the two handed with high strength and no 2H training levels before I became a warder. There's a man that teaches combat rolls at the new camp for 10LP (one level up). That IMO trivializes combat since it makes it so easy to gain distance and keep poking with the forward stab. I've funneled/managed entire groups of enemies that way (and softening them with fire bolt/using environment like trees). That should carry you until you can get two handed leveled.

I promise it's plenty doable.

Also, how tf did you get this far without any strength or levels in one handed? Mind blowing

Ok fucking losing my mind on a lock pick lol the old camp dungeon lock is annoying as hell... I been enjoying lock picking but this one is taking me over the edge

All my homies hate lockpicking

I wanted to use this save editor to fix the watermages plan quest since diego is not giving me the quest but it's easier said than done honestly.
The quest to see the water mages in act 3? I got that from Raven. It also doesn't give an actual formal quest in your journal. You have to go talk to the water mages in the New Camp before the quest pops.

Yeah, the watermages quest in Act 3. Anyone specific i should talk to in the new camp?

Yeah, just go up to the two guards in front of the water mages room in that giant cave. The guard on the right will give you the OK to go in and tell you who to talk to. Ask some of the random water mages for directions and they'll tell you the exact name and location of the mage you need to find (he's like 30 feet away in another room).

If you didn't talk to Raven, make sure you do. No one even tells you to go talk to him. I just randomly did looking for quests and he pointed me in the right direction.

Thanks man, you gave me new hope. Will try that out ASAP and update if i was successful.
Edit: nope they are aggro to me the guard on the right doesn't have an option to choose that i should come in.

i want to talk to raven but he says no to me and i saw in a playthrough that diego should come up with the quest "plan of the watermages" but he doesn't, hmmm.

I definitely didn't get anything from Diego. Just a vague convo from Raven that went something like:

"The water mages want to see you."
"What do they want? Who do I talk to?"
"Idk fuck off"

Either way, no quest until I talked to the water mage. Just make sure you talk to the guard on the right, or they'll attack.

Constantly getting a bug now when I open the map it'll lock me being able to get out of it. Forcing me to alt f4 the game just to reload and play again…

This game looks so good. I think I'm just going to have to wait on it for now though. I never have played the original Gothics, but everything I hear about this game looks right up my alley.

Just beat it. I played original Gothic when it came out but I was like 14 then so it was little bit too vague for me.

This game is great.

Only problem is that the latter chapters are a downgrade from the first 4 I would say.Chapters 5-6 I was not a fan at all.

Honestly that might stop me from replaying it for a while.Other than that worth 50 bucks

Grab it now. Once the onslaught of games hits remembering to come to this will be forgotten and it's a game worth everyone's time this summer.

I occasionally got the same bug.
It doesn't really "force you to F4", but you can "go back" only by clicking on the button o nthe screen. With your mouse, I mean.
Neither the controller default button (default B or Circle) or the ESC key work when this happens.

it's still annoying as hell, but you are taking an unnecessary drastic measure by quitting the game entirely.

This game is a marvel and a labor of love and hard work.
The enemies don't level up with you (only after each act) and the devs had to figure out where you can go as a rookie only becoming stronger later but you have to know where to go so the world opens up time after time.
So organic.
I bought the game but have a bug where i can't progress so that sucks and is a negative for the game to me.
