She could be 18 for all we know, but even if she's 16, that would make her older than Rex and it's not like the inexperienced crew of XB3 was any older. Heck, they only get to live for 10 years, so they had the bodies of 17-19 year olds, but the brains of 8-10 year olds and it showed.

Love the medieval setting, world is cool, visuals looks good. Flying on a dragon seems dope. Looks like they're going for a single, connected massive area like X. Hope the combat is a big departure in some way from previous games, just to mix it up. Both BK games are still my favorite battle systems in any RPG, I hope Monolith still has it in them.

In a game like Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter you also play as 16 year old girl and yet it didn't stop me from enjoying the game and it wont stop me from enjoying Xenoblade Genesis.
Again this is nothing new, GAF cried about Xenoblade 2 Rex design and cried over Xenoblade 3 Noah design they do same here.

That flying dragon made me think about Flammie from the Mana series. Same white/green/yellow colors.
I like the art style for the environments, but the characters and the general anime tone are meh.
They still don't want to evolve past high school and it's tiring, because their stories suffers a lot from it. They want me to take teenagers shonen stories seriously, sorry I can't do anything else than laugh at it.
They are stuck into telling stories that always resolve everything with the power of love and friendship.

Xenoblade is unapologetically anime as fuck and I personally love anime so to me this positive point.

The FE 3 Houses influence is definitely a choice. The deep lore will make up for it though. The first opportunity to ditch the generic school uniform I will take ASAP.

It's a JRPG first, and I like those games.
I would like Monolith Soft to do something else than Xenoblade, hell, they said themselves they wanted to do something else but Nintendo wouldn't let them.
And do you remember that the first Xenoblade had at least a cool / different art style for the characters ? Not that generic anime style we've seen a thousand times.

I love original Xenoblade but Shulk was blond kid with shorts, not exactly original.
Also for my taste I like the character design for Genesis so far.

Wat, faces looked bloody awful in the 1st Xenoblade (and X), lol, laughable amateur hour, glad they fixed them up and since then do a lot better. The armor designs too. Sore points vs the greatness of the world design. Glad they keep getting better.
This looks ace save for some low res/aliasing etc., also glad it's going for some new vibe, I hope they don't still try to connect the games in some weird way and just treat it like an all new deal, especially with no Soraya Saga. It seems mature & Atlusy.

I like it so far, the trailer was good and there is plenty of time to show off more. The game is probably not ready to be fully shown and with what they did show it is a nice teaser so us Xenoblade fans can be excited that Monolith is cooking up something new in the series. Real and gritty doesn't work for JRPGs just look how FFXVI turned out and how DQXII had to be restarted.

Look at Expedition 33, a game from a no-name French dev the sold over 8 million so far and got more critical acclaim than any Japanese-made JRPG has received in many years.
There's so much potential for JRPGs to do something besides the same damn shounen anime melodrama over and over.

I enjoyed Expedition 33, but for me personally I take games like Trails game and Xenoblade over that game and I'm glad more JRPG devs agree with me.

Man, I just want them to try making a JRPG with grown up characters, intelligent writing, and good pacing. I don't want them to straight up imitate E33 or be "not anime". There's so much more they can do besides just shounen. I grew up with stuff like Akira, Ghost in the Shell, Vampire Hunter D, Ninja Scroll, Record of Lodoss War, etc.
2001: "lets make a JRPG about late 1800s alternate history with Lovecraftian horror elements"
2026: "no, don't stray from the formula! We can only do shounen melodrama, surely our core audience of 30- and 40-somethings would never accept anything else"

The judgement ring was awesome and far more interesting than E33's dodge/parry system. And while the combat isn't as interesting, Koudelka was '99.

I think once XBC 2 came along, the weebs came in and ruined the Xeno fan base.
I'd prefer more hard sci fi like XBCX, although that game wasn't fully baked, either.

Way too soon to judge that. Xenobalde 2 also started as fantasy but later on become much more sci-fi.
In fact the way the world looks it wouldn't be crazy they not actually on earth but instead in Space colony.

I wasn't a big fan of Metaphor ReFantazio due to them basically westernizing the game. That game was boring when it came to story and cast but had good gameplay
