Xenoblade Genesis Announced

Serious question, does anyone want to play as a 16-year old anime girl with pink hair? I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the protagonist.

That looked so western.... I got the feeling this was only done because they wanted to hop onto a western trend ...

Visuals were disappointing. It looks like an upressed Switch 1 game.

Looks interesting. Not quite sold on it yet, though. And I say this as a massive fan of XB 1, 2 and X (3 was okayish but didn't grab me as the others did). Need to see more.

The environments look amazing

The most generic Xenoblade game I have ever seen.

School of something or other - Check
Dragons - Check
Indistinct Character Design - Check
Indistinct Open World w/ Giant rock structures in the background - Check

Coming from Xenoblade 3 with its unique character design and story, this is a pretty sad display.
Agreed. I'm still going to play it because it's Xenoblade. But that trailer was surprisingly bland.

Would be weird if the world didn't look amazing. It's one of the things that Monolith absolutely fucking nail. I also like that it seems we're playing inside a sphere.
Yeah that looks so interesting to me. I like see the story of how the earth end up like that or are they even on earth.

And if that dragon / flying monster thing is an indication of maybe being able to fly through the world, it would be cool as hell to just fly "upwards" inside the sphere and basically arrive at that part of the world, seamlessly. Basically a pretty neat way of cutting down on world-travel time.

I'm definitely excited to see how traversal on this game gonna work.

I fucking hate the school trope but it's Xenoblade and the world premise looks very unique so day one. If it's a seamless spherical/ring shaped open world that could be breathtaking to explore.

Game of the show for me.
It's up there for me (I prefer Fire Emblem a little more). I would say I'm tired of school settings, but medieval military training settings aren't as overdone for me as high school settings. The potential party members showed so far look appealing. I'm really excited for this.

I'm a bit skepticaöäl for now, but will probably end up buying it.

This and Fortune's Weave will be my Switch 2 exclusive buys, for now.

Some fair criticisms and dislike of some of the artistic choices.

But Takahasi and the Mitsuda made 3 great and memorable games with XC1-3 and wonderful music and I expect this to be the same.

I expect the final product to be much more polished as well. Still a ways away.
I thought it was going to be typical GAF negativity… then I watched the trailer with the 14 year old, Pink haired protagonist and I nearly cried.

Not feeling it. Looks more like a mix of Fire Emblem and Monster Hunter Stories than the first Xenoblade. Can't pinpoint why. Maybe too anime, characters too serious, no titan climbing, nothing too interesting about the world, music rather unremarkable so far. Dunno

Kinda hoped Monolith would finally make something else. Love Xenoblade 1 but it didn't need to be turned into a huge series

I'm in.

Monolith Soft have absolutely nailed it with the series so far and more than earned even a blind purchase based on their track record alone.

Haven't been hyped for a game in a long time. It's good to have that feeling again.

To the people complaining about the school... Have you ever played a game directed by Takahashi? There is zero chance this is going to be played straight, lmao.

It's gorgeous man....wow, today has been a day for me, lol......everybody around here acting like nothing got them hyped but D2 just spiked ccu like nobody's business, I got new zelda, fire emblem, xenoblade games today.....I think I may cry, lol. I needed a win.

I'm not a day 1'er. But with Ninty 1st party games I might aswell be, since they never drop much in price and seldom go on sale.

Probably going to be an early buy for both this and the new FE. Can't wait! 🕺
Yeah I don't even hesitate getting Nintendo games I'm interested in on day one. Sometimes they go on sale, but many months to years later lol

Another interesting point is they drop the "Chronicles" from the title. I'm guessing Genesis is start of the new arc.
All of the Japanese marketing that's released for this game this morning has specifically mentioned that this is a "new story arc" and is separate from the "Chronicles" series. The marketing in English kinda translates to: "For those that have never played a Xenoblade game before, you can start with Xenoblade Genesis."

In the world of Anshar, a land with six suns,
many diverse nations crowd together across a vast continent.
Conflicts between nations never truly cease,
yet people continue to live on with strength and determination.

Water, fire, wind—everything that shapes the world
is a transformed manifestation of Anima, the source of all existence.
Those who can freely manipulate Anima and wield it as a combat art are known as Knights,
and in this world of endless conflict, they stand at the center of every battle.

Gathered at the knight academy Lykos are those who aspire to become elite Knights.
A young girl named Eleanor, newly enrolled there,
receives a special stone known as an Anima Crystal, which amplifies a Knight's power.

During her life at the academy, she encounters many people
and becomes entwined with a variety of destinies.

What is the true reason Eleanor came to this academy?
