Gothic Remake |OT| Return to the Colony

I'm finally strong enough to beat the first dude in the arena and take down a group of dino-ostriches :lollipop_beaming_smiling:

If you have money problems go into the mine of the old camp, you can mine ores and they respawn relatively quickly so just do a couple of laps around the mine, 7 times for ores on the wall for 15 ores total, 7 or 8 times for the ores on the ground for 7-8, animations is very slow so bring a book or a snack.

Question, does anyone else have GPU Usage of 100%?
Anyways looking for some meatbug but used them all and now i have only 2 meatbugs and i need 3 so one more but can't find any.

I have around 70% GPU usage on linux. Runs without problems, even with DLSS/FG...zero crashes sofar (couple hours in)...but its really demanding. :messenger_grimmacing_

And the game is truly hard as fuck...holy shit! Everyone and everything is just one clapping me. But I have now 30 learning points. Should i put everything into strength first? And how do you make money? All these trainers cost so much.

I have my copy, I have it installed on the SX but I seemingly can't get any desire or interest to play it, lol.

What is this sensation even called? Gaming burnout that needs some time off from it?

Too bad, sounds like a Gaming Burnout but i'm no psychiatrist.
Game is really really nice i don't care about the Reviews and score.

I partly blame the series of conferences and great games that have been shown in the last 72 hours, lol.

I want to play many of those way way way more right this second than Gothic, unfortunately.

Playing this blind has turned into quite a fun experiment. Never played the original, so going in with all these fancy graphics and "ancient" game design philosophies really shows just how much things have changed in such a short period.
Quest markers alone changed the rhythm and pacing of games completely. I dig that this remake didn't even give the option for them, "figure it out or don't."
I guess there's always the internet for instant answers but playing this game in the original manner really takes me back, in bad and good ways.

Think i'm about to give up lol. Spent about 90mins trying to find that guys chest near the arena that Fingers wants me to break into and steal the ring. Still havent found it.
A simple waypoint and i could of saved a wasted 90mins.

Modern open world games do it better imo.

From the arena gate, take a right and go up until you reach a hut that has a little board at the right side of the huts gate.

Or simply wait til night time to find where the guys hut is, he is called Scatty.

I looked for 5 min and than I looked it up on the internet. Turned out is was right in the shed next to Fingers. :messenger_tears_of_joy: Btw...the lockpick system is quite cool. Its like its own mini puzzle game.

There seems to be another amazing bug where the entire new camp turns hostile on you for no apparent reason. Everything was fine, I was talking to people, grabbing quests etc. Went to the free mine to get the armour, didn't do any funny business there. Immediately returned and now everyone wants me dead.

Shit old camp I didn't give blood the 10 nuggets and his boyfriend harek attacks me. I hadn't saved but luckily he didn't kill me? Unsure wtf went down.

This game is making me feel retarded. I can't get going. Can't get enough ore to learn anything. Can't leave the old camp.
Can't trigger an escort yet. I'm just wondering around aimlessly. Broke the lockpick the one time I tried it.

Just grabbed the Spyro trilogy for $10. Installing that. ha!

Game has an userscore of 8.4.
I wholeheartedly agree, game is amazing.
Professional critics are useless really.

Yeah. Its truly great. I never played the original and I am having an incredible time with this one. I love the zero hand holding, you have to remember the path to different areas, pay attention to conversations so you know what to do next and basically find your way around

Its so refreshing to play a game like this in 2026 where the developers dont treat the player like idiots.

Bro I walked into old camp and have 150 nuggies! One npc gave me 50 to do a quest for him when I haggled and called his bluff, and another 100 to go buy him some sword.

Fucking idiots. I plan to join swamp gang or new camp and just rob these cock suckers blind!

Can't really get into it unfortunately. Played the OG one back in the days and loved it but I somehow expected something more. I like no quest markers and being a total wimp in the beginning but it's just too clunky and riddled with bugs (PS5... yeah yeah I know) for my taste. Maybe I'll try it again this winter though I'll probably have to become unemployed with everything that is releasing this fall.

The guy lives literally 5 meters above him. It is actually hilarious how brainrotted people have become with modern quest markers and shit.

I just went through this, and it's not the first time. Take a couple weeks off and do other things. Like completely remove yourself from opening Steam, or your consoles, just do anything but gaming. It will go either one of two ways, eventually you'll start actively wanting to play a game and you do, or you will realize that you don't like gaming anymore and you'll keep doing other stuff. Most times it takes me a couple of weeks to get back into it, but a long time ago I stopped playing games for like 5 years before I got the itch again.

I'm around 7 hours in. I like the difficulty and no hand holding, but I find the game has no respect for your time in regards to not showing where NPC's are located. The tiny map is almost useless. I spend far too long walking and looking for people, and that's really time-wasting. Otherwise, having fun, and the game looks visually amazing (PC). *edit - I have since realised there are individual camp maps. I had bought one of the entire colony. This solves things!

Dont put everything on strenght, find the dude that teach you the evade roll in the new camp first, it is a game changer.

Also, at least buy one level of expertise in one handed weapons, being able to dodge mid animation is a godsend.

And then at least one level of expertise for lockpicking or carving animal parts.

I have this feeling from time to time and most of the time you need the right game to overcome it. Some shit you wouldn't normally play. Something completely new.

That sounds good...thx!

For people having problems finding things in the camp, buy the damn map and put icons by yourself, now my camp map tells me where my bed is, where the vendors are etc.

Buying a map should be a priority for everyone.

Maybe I bought the wrong map, I bought one in the Old Camp, and it's just a big world map, with the camps being small (and no option to zoom in). Are there specific maps for individual camps? *edit - Looks like I bought a map of the entire colony, sigh. Had no idea there were individual camp maps, cool.

Yes, you bought the colony map, you should have bought the camp map.

The camp map is useful, the colony map is kinda useless if you wanna put icons on it, you cant zoom so the icons cover huge zones instead of pin pointing, hope they fix this and let me zoom a little.

Can someone please tell me at the start how the hell can you make any money!?? I get it's tough on purpose but man I'm a broke ass bum.

I haven't played any video game almost all of last week, since finishing 007 First Light, taking a few days off of gaming, digesting all the new upcoming game announcements from the show and letting them rekindle my brain back into the gaming mode.

Yeah, this happens to me every now and then, mostly after I beat a really good game and my brain just wants to decompress for a bit.

but I find the game has no respect for your time in regards to not showing where NPC's are located
If it's like in the original then NPCs are doing daily routines and you can find them easily in camps at night and once you'll figure out what they do during the day.
But yeah there are some things which would've probably be better with some QoL improvements these days.

Glad I held out playing the original so long. This remake is fucking awesome. Finding my way around was a bit rough before I got a map, but it's more manageable now. Combat is slowly clicking for me, but right now I have to lead monsters into guards and use the environment. It's wild how brutal the world is. I joked I was going to burn down the camp to a guard and he beat the shit out of me and then robbed me. Couldn't believe my eyes. Not that I had much for him to rob, but I stopped treating it like a gamey game real quick after that.

I got fed up with that Mud idiot. Kept him for a solid 3 hours waiting for it to pay off. I couldn't take it anymore and finally just looked him up. He literally doesn't do anything or give you anything? Are you for real? Fed that idiot to a crocodile.

I can't find my way around the swamp worth shit. This cult is annoying. I'm just pretending to join to get some quest item.

Anyway, great game.

well, after the initial impression, which was amazing, there are some things now that I am kind of disappointed. You don't get much reward by exploring. I am still very early in the game, but exploring the area around the old camp and the swamp camp dont give you much, only exp from the animals killed. I hope this changes later on.

Started the game today morning.

Not off to a good start when the settings menu itself has issues in it, lol.

The Sharpening Intensity blurb is just a copy paste of Depth of Field.

The game itself is also so fucking brown, reminds me of Greedfall 2 ..

Not sure if I'm going to see it through to the end but I'll definitely put in some hours into it at least.

Visit the mine in both the old camp and new camp and get some ores there, attract enemies into guards and let them do the job, loot whoever survives and sell the loot, explore and find stuff to sell, learn how to lockpick so you can open the chests you find while exploring.

There is not really a universal method to make money super fast, even the vendors have barely any money so you cant just sell everything you have.

Its cool seeing people new to these games, We've lost a LOT in the genre over the years. Gothic 1 and 2 are near perfect games imo.

Steal, beat up and mug, skin animals, collect everything. It's a game of survival until you become Conan the barbarian.

In Gothic 2 that magic ore is actually worth a fortune in gold. Mining it is one of the better ways of earning cash for your armours. Cool touch for world building.

They made mining ores super slow and tedius so be aware if you wanna farm some of it, prepare to lose a couple of hours of watching slow mine animations, smart thing because most people are gonna get annoyed and not use what is basically a free and infinite(?) money glitch.
