Combat gets better when you find better weapons and level up as well. I can now kill enemies more easily and I am able to explore more which feels like a good reward

So far its a good game, shame it got the bad press with the macho ladies but I think there is something special here and worth playing

That does look like a good middle ground when it comes to camera distance in conversations. Not so far you can't tell what they look like but not that weird super close up that some games likes to do.
 
I believe the game can't even hit a steady 30fps on PS5 Pro!

I was interested in this game because I played the original on PC and enjoyed it, but I'm not touching the remake with a bargepole. Shame really.

Gotta give a bit of pushback here

1) Even with UE5 you still have to create all the assets, character models, animations etc and it is all very well done here and faithfully to boot so it definitely counts
2) Original does not have the extra 20-30 hours of content, nor does it have modern graphics, controls etc
3) They built the studio at the same time as making the game, and the game is AAA in scope and production value for the most part, also it is an RPG and RPGs take long especially when it is a debut game from a new studio
4) I do not even look at steam pricing, I just go to gg.deals and the prices there are more than fair for this game
 
Good to see a whole new group of people appreciate Gothic and it's style of gameplay. Tight balance, no hand holding, no sat nav for the map. Remake has done it's job I suppose. They came out around the same time as Morrowind but never acquired the same love unfortunately.

Although i wait for Skywind this remake is a dream come true for fans of Gothic.
 
This game is amazing. It's been a while since I had so much fun with a game. I think I will take 200h+ to finish it lol, I already have 7h and just started the Diego's quest (going to the mine).

I understand why people are struggling with the lockpicking, but for me it is so good, its like a minigame. I am stealing every people's house just for the lockpicking 😅

I'd really need a 40/60hz option. Hopefully they add further optimisations for console down the line.

I installed a mod to remove it entirely. I wasn't having with this minigame tbh
 
The base PS5 performance is just abysmal, try reloading the game a few times and you'll lose parts or all audio, leading to an inevitable crash. Even PS5 Elex 2 wasn't so bad despite having the same issue of no performance/quality choice.

I didn't understand it but once I did it is fun. Gonna keep it on for now as long as nothing changes too drastically but I have zero training and it's already easy.
 
Another good things about the game, night time feels like night time. Its dark and you have to be careful because its not so easy to see the enemies. Finally a developer that understand the assignment

Awesome music and a really pretty world for back then but yeah damn, everything else sure sucked a lot. Thing is I've only played it back then, and I wonder if it's any better with community patches, mods, and all that stuff.

I still have to finish Gothic 2 lol. I'm about to go see Raven but I don't have a lot of time to play nowadays. I sure wish there were more RPGs like G1 and G2: amazing progression, in small but very dense worlds that feel like they have 0 padding to them.
 
I fell off hard with the original game. I think I first tried it in 2003 or so, but just never got into it. I did like Risen a lot, though.

I've decided to give this a try and am about to 3 hours in still flailing about with little idea of what I need to do. It's definitely interesting, but the feeling of progress is indeed very slow when you don't know what to do. Had a breakthrough last night when I got a rune that let me use fire bolt magic. Too bad I have no idea how to recover mana... I'm guessing I need to find some specific food item, because sleeping doesn't seem to do anything.

I also trailed a group of guards and diggers and they took me to a mine where I've finally managed to get some ore. Definitely going to go back and buy the map, because I'm having a terrible time of getting my bearings through the various landmarks.
 
This is only £25 quid, I'll likely order it when I get home. Did they keep the improved movesets when you upgrade your combat skills? Always something I wished more RPGs did so you can feel your characters progression.

Yeah, KaiRo's soundtracks were always bangers. Apparently the modders did decent work but I'll always have a bad taste in my mouth with that game. I quit it after seeing general Lee and king Rhobar and barely having any dialogue with them. Nonsense.

What the fuck lol. Might still give it a chance some day but yeah, it's sitting near the bottom of the backlog lol.

Hope this remakes does fine and G2 gets a similar treatment. The game imo still plays really nice today but it would be nice to get more people to play it. Not as "soulful" and unique as G1 but still an amazing game, feels bigger and more realized.

Keep going. I had the same feeling the first few hours. The game will click eventually
 
Don't know if it's a Gothic 2 thing or also happens in Gothic 1, but you should eat all the damn mushrooms you can find.

We're on 73k CCU. And a third of Gothic 2 is already made with the valley of mines from this game. I think there's a pretty good chance of a G2 remake.

I wonder what Bjorn Pankratz is thinking right now with numbers like that. 🤣

I know i'm probably in the minority here but i wish they had modernised the game in terms of guidance. A map, mini map, waypoints, etc.
I dont get no fun out of aimlessly walking about not knowing what i'm supposed to be doing.

You can buy a map from Graham in the old camp.
I know it can be hard but stick to it eventually you get the hang of it. Maybe look up some walkthrough to guide you.
Idk what else to say.
