• Hey Guest. Check out your NeoGAF Wrapped 2025 results here!

What game are you currently playing?

On PC: Beat Dishonored. It was great. Started playing Dishonored 2 and it has noticeable frame pacing issues. Sucks cause Dishonored 1 ran glossy smooth.
Such a shame they couldn't optimise it properly - D2 is one the most fun, well-crafted games I've ever played (I played on PS4 or 5). Adore it. I've still not played D1! Definitely need to get on that. Death of the Outsider was also great, don't know if it's any better optimised than D2 though.

I ditched Titanium Court after over 25 hours. Got sick of it. Now playing Thank Goodness You're Here. It's cute. Probably not going to stick in my memory for years to come, but it's a nice little game, and I love the Northern English accents and setting.

I'm considering getting Diablo 4 to play with friends. Loved D1 and D2; D3 was quite crap other than the expansion area. I don't expect great things of D4 but it'll be a fun game to play co-op, and I'm looking forward to playing as a rogue again.

The Witcher 3
Reinstalled it on my PS5 Pro. It's time for a replay and this time actually finish it (I played it on release and made it to Skellige).

I'm now a couple of hours into it. The good news is that I have forgotten practically everything. Graphically, it's certainly still looks good. Gerald moves a bit stiffly, but it is a solid 60fps now and the world is still beautiful. Especially the lighting. Lovely sunsets. In 2026, it feels more like a third-person BG3 rather than an action game with RPG elements like Fable. That is how I approach it anyways. I turned up the difficulty, which means you have to fight much more tactically and make use of oils and potions. And lots of looting, of course, for gold and crafting. I notice that it all clicks a bit better now. Maybe because I'm older, or I put 300+ hours into BG3 and in that card game in FFVIIR?

Hopefully I will finish it this time, and before the new DLC releases.

I've just finished:
Final Fantasy XVI - which I mostly enjoyed. I felt the combat was a bit weak and repetitive, and some of the boss fights felt a bit dragged out for drama... but it was a solid 8/10 game. (I have now finished: FF7, 8, 9. 10, 10-2, 12 TZA, 13, 15 and 16.)
Oh No Bereit GIF by PlayStationDE

Warhammer 40,000 Boltgun - Boring, very repetitive, not much variety in weapons OR enemies. Genuinely surprised at how bad the level design was. Steam says only 31% of players have gotten the achievement for finishing chapter one. Can't say I'm surprised. 4/10 - Avoid unless you're a hardcore 40K fan and get it for $5 or less.

Looking for a new game to play whilst I wait for Starfox Switch 2 on the 25th. Tempted for FF7 Remake Intergrade... can't think why.

I'm about 17 hours into Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow (Switch OLED)

I got most of the stuff to do the True Ending. Right now I'm at Level 60 and have been grinding before I take on one of the bosses named Paranoia. I aim to level my MC to Level 70 to 80

So far I'm really enjoying this game despite how difficult certain sections are. But the quick save is a lifesaver since I always save before a difficult platforming challange and whenever I fail, I just reload and redo the section

I think I have a good 10 to 20 hours left

Just finished Skyward Sword. The controls were a bit of a hussle to work around (played on the controller) but it certainly was nice to have some variety for a change. Most modern games just have the same boring controls.

Still rocking on Diablo 2 Resurrected. Now approaching Baal on Nightmare. It's been quite the breeze so far, I only done goofed when at the end of Act 4 more and more fire-resistant enemies/groups started to spawn and I was more or less screwed because I only do fire damage with my warlock. Have to rethink my skills on hell for sure or I won't make it.

That said, the loot drops are really something in the game. I haven't had that much luck with loot anyway so far and today finally a decent legendary crown droped and I was super happy, only to Google it and the article saying the crown is popular when used on hirelings. :messenger_tears_of_joy: :messenger_tears_of_joy: :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Fuck you game!

Cyberpunk 2077

I'm finally playing this game..! Playing on a PS5 Pro, and my god this is probably the most beautiful game I've ever seen. Honestly, I sometimes just stand and stare at my surroundings. It's incredible.

Enjoying it quite a lot. Played on Normal, however, and it feels too easy. Will bump it up to Hard later, if I remember to.

Dispatch

I've been playing during lunch at work on the Steam Deck. The game is amazing and I'm really enjoying my time with it. I've been spacing out the episodes to give them weight instead of rushing through them. This got me going back to some older similar games that I never finished.

Batman The TellTale Game

Completed this over the past week in Shadows mode and had a great time with it as well.

Skyrim
Took me some time to recover from Morrowind, which was in the end just a colossal waste of time and attempt to dive into another TES, hoping to finish it at least this time.
The story is somewhat better, so far at least. The Nerevarine stuff was just boring bs, dragonborne has at least some coolness to it. Although after the intro and the first shout not much happened in that regard. But storytelling equally sucks with how open and distracting the entire world is structured. The world is also quite empty. Random npcs standing around at some hut or entirely in the wild doing nothing, having no actual dialog, sometimes being dead because a wolf killed them... Persistency is just useless crap, eg a crab being killed by the guards right in front of the jarl house and still there days after. No clean up forever is more irritiating and lifeless than just magically vanishing corpses. I can't seem to stumble upon a merchant except in the start city. So selling any of the crap I collect is not possible. And inventory is way to limited again. So dropping tons of stuff is required. At least the items seem to scale a bit better, whereas I stumbled upon the very best body armor in Morrowind very early and never had to switch again after. Which is of course open world, but imho just proof how open world never can be as good as some well designed adventure. Not a fan of Rockstar stuff either, but those have at least some momentum that is kept throughout. Sound is weird, speech seems to come only out of center speaker, whereas soundtrack is great. Very irritating to not hear where someone is standing when speaking. Difficulty is all over the place. Firstly I don't even know how to know which enemy is possible, their level, since there seems to be no indication other than try to swing at them and watch if the life bar is moving reasonably and how fast you die yourself. Usually a quick save orgy everywhere you try something. Just like in Morrowind some cheesing seems to be handy, requiring the bad path finding to make the enemy move stupidly and take them out with arrows. Also kinda weird that within a cave the first enemies might be very weak, whereas the later ones can be very hard. I guess you are supposed to come back later. But this is just bs. Imho this shouldn't be some fucked up version of a metroidvania. The world looks great, but is only snowy rather pointy mountains? These also makes traveling kinda cumbersome, with always being some "hill" in the way and having to move around it. Also no idea how fast travel is done, even any. Did not steal a horse yet and had not enough money at the only stable I came upon in the start area. Morrowind had at least several ways of fast traveling. In Skyrim everything takes forever with all quest sending you all over the map instead of keeping it in one area for a while until chapter 2 etc requires you to move on. Skyrim is more walking sim than walking sims. Reload after a death sometimes uses an autosave instead of a newer quicksave, sometimes reloads automatically, sometimes requires manual. Quite janky for a game that is quite old and gas had a ton of time to iron out obvious bugs.
Vampire Bloodlines1 and Gothic1 (maybe Witcher3) are for me and probably will be the gold standard how these games should be. Actually designed from start to finish and very guided, freedom only is in the choice of character and playstyle. But of course those are more adventure games the other is RPG which should be this open bs that is like telling a story via the dictionary. It's all in there, make it yourself!

In anticipation of Onimusha Way of the Sword, I'm playing original Onimusha.

Capcom: hey let's make Resident Evil but in Edo Japan. Thats literally what this game is.

Last time I played this was back in PS2 era. It's a fun game but also very much product of its time.

Pushing 300 hours in PS5tarfield. All I have is the final mission. Got the bullet time power. Time to wrap up the rest of the factions then FINALLY move onto something new (Pragmata or Mouse PI).

It's one of their shortest games also. IIRC you can complete it within 3 hours easy.

Also, it will never not be wild that the PAL version of the game had the trailer of part 2 on the disc. Talk about fast releasing sequels…

You weren't kidding, I'm already finished the game.

Back in PS2 the game felt longer for some reason.

I'm 23 hours into Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow (Switch OLED)

I got my MC to Level 80

I beat the boss Paranoia an got the Mirror ablities. I'm going to try to fill out the rest of the map before I go to Second Dario Bossi Fight. I'm on the path to the True Ending still

So far the game is fantastic and it's an improvement in regards to spriteworks and backgrounds in comparsion to Harmony of Dissoance. I still loved Harmony of Dissonance but I can under why people don't like that one

One of the games most unique parts to it is that there are three numbered slot doors

573
666
777

Each one of these numbers are written on one door and when you go near it, the slots start to run and let you know if you have the correct amount

To enter those rooms that they are guarding, the last three digits of the gold you have, have to correspond with the number on the door, than it will let you in. 1666 would be fine since the last three digits have that exact number to the 666 door

I got into the 573 Room and got the Shaman Ring which really increases my experience I get from slaying enemies

The 666 door gives me the gold ring which greatly increases gold drops from enemies

The 777 door gives me an armor that really boost Luck, Intelligence and CON

It wasn't annoying but it was a tedious process just making sure I hit the specific amount that is needed to get through one of the doors and making sure I don't pick up any gold accidentally while on the way to the specific numbered slot doors

While I enjoy it I noticed that from my playthrough of Harmony of Dissonance, that the setting is somewhat recycled and enemies are reused. I just hope Portrait of Ruin and Order of Ecceslia isn't like that. But the animations, pixel art and sprite work has massively improved from Harmony of Dissonance I noticed

You weren't kidding, I'm already finished the game.

Back in PS2 the game felt longer for some reason.

Curious does the game have quick saves? I've been noticing how much time I spend saving in the quick save alot and when I screw up in Dawn of Sorrow, I just reload the quick save and do the process again. I noticed that some games felt longer back than due to not having the ability to quick save

Or your skills as a gamer has really improved

Nope. It doesn't even have checkpoints, if you dies you go back where you last saved. It's very much plays exactly like old school RE game but instead of gun its swords but you do get edo style gun and a bow.

First Light
Just about done in Africa. Great level. Really felt like something out of a Bond movie.

Devil May Cry 3
I'm onto mission 4. I must have played this for hundreds and hundreds of hours back on the PS2 and starting it up again made my realise why; It's perfect. The gameplay and combat is the most balanced to me. I played as Vergil in DMC5 last week and it felt much harder to learn with a few more mechanics than what you get given in DMC3. Also contains my favourite weapons, bosses, and enemy design.

Shadow Hearts
I've been playing a fair few JRPGS lately and fancied another, but something a little darker than Final Fantasy. Not very far in - just reached Fengtian.

Grim Dawn

Started this one a few days ago and I've already put around 12 hours into it. Game's very fun, feels like a more polished and "feature-complete" Titan Quest, plus so far it's quite challenging playing on Veteran Mode. My only gripe with the game is that, imo, it looks way uglier than Titan Quest: has none of the charm of that game and it has worse readability, with sometimes just too much shit on screen to be able to tell what the hell is going on.

Still super fun to play ofc, and I love how they've kept the ragdolls from TQ while also adding tons of blood. Makes playing as a melee class super satisfying.

Only played a couple of hours of Far Cry 4 when it was first released and now giving it another go.

Having a lot of fun just exploring and doing quests.

There's a perfect balance between quests and systemic events where you have the freedom to tackle what you want without feeling overwhelmed.

Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow (Switch OLED)

I'm 26 hours into the game with my MC being at Level 83. I just beat Death and I went to see how tough The Abyss is and I'm getting kind of wrecked, there's just a lot I have to pay attention not only enemies but enviromental hazards too. So I'm gonna to level up to level 99 and put on my best equipment before I take on the last area

Grim Dawn is really cool and I'd love to give it another playthrough. But the opaqueness (opacity?) of its systems puts me off. When you choose a constellation or whatever I think it's quite easy to fuck it up and you're not really given any clues to how each one will enhance your character as you continue putting points in it (if i am remembering correctly). I had to look up what to do and I hate doing that.

I played partway through Titan Quest recently. It is a really cool game and less stressful in terms of making a decent-ish character but I felt like the class I chose I was just spamming the same two unspectacular skills constantly. Maybe a me problem. So eventually I got bored. But I would like to see something in between the two games in terms of complexity. I hope TQ2 is great!

Alright, Iet's do this.

Hip Hop Reaction GIF

After I first dipped into Hell difficulty in Diablo 2 and noped out after 30 minutes (HOLY RESISTANCIES!!!) I grinded a few levels (now 75) and am about to give this shit another go.

You can use the rewind function to make this easier. You are aware that you can rewind ?

Demons' Souls (PS3, cont.)

Finished it up. Got the platinum. Some thoughts:

I think the 7th gen presentation made it age gracefully. It kind of compliments the medieval grotesque and macabre setting giving it this "rustic" look and feel which works in favour of the worldbuilding.

I've already messed up my constellations lol, but it's fine! You can respec them quite easily, just by paying a bit of money and an Aether Shard (easily farmeable)

Yeah I think that's both a thing in TQ and GD: classes are pretty simple and you can beat the game with just two or three active skills. But I think it's fine, the passives are nice too and you can always go for a more complex build by multi-classing.

My problem with TQ was how easy the game is on the first run. Or at least that's how it felt to me playing a melee build. So far GD is much more challenging, specially playing on Veteran.

There's a new DLC coming out next month for Grim Dawn. Might be a nice time to jump back in!

Oh, do we finally have a date for Fangs of Asterkarn? I stopped following the news a while ago because it felt like it was lost in feature creep land, good to know it's finally going to get released and I can waste all my free time away in it again!

It's my most played game on Steam with 1700 hours, lots of characters (some lost to HDD failure years ago), some who can barely beat the game in Legendary, some who made even Nemesis monsters their bitch, at least one who killed all Celestials... in Hardcore Legendary. Can't wait to read all the new lore notes as well, the world building is incredible in this game!

It is not equipment you need to grind, it is the best souls. Mandrake and Beezelbub clean house, but many swear by passive damage fire wheel. At that point only dodging and MP management are really a concern.

P.S. The Julius mode stuff is super weak sauce. Imagine having a gimped Belmont and Alucard paired with an OP mage that moves at a turtle's pace. You can switch between them and run through the game with haste but it still does not let you sequence break...

I already was able to complete that challange. I was just talking about how tedious it is. I know there's a rewind feature but I never used it
Rewind is here to make things less tedious, like getting that 1$ coin or whatever weapon/spirit you want to get from an enemy. Just saying. Completed all of these games 100% decades ago on DS anyway.

Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow (Switch OLED)

I got my MC to Level 85 and I spend 27 hours so far into the game. My Map Completion is around 98 Percent. I think I mapped out most of the Abyss. I was able to find a teleportation room next to a save room in the Abyss and so I teleported outside of the Abyss area to restock on healing and MP items.

I went back and just decided to do the final boss Menace. So the first form isn't too bad but the second form is annoying. I ended up just dying. So I'm looking up strategies to see what souls and equipment to equip to make the final boss easier.

I'm grinding to Level 99 and I'm also getting my gold to 300,000 so I can buy that one accessory that gives me a higher drop rate on Souls and than I'm going to do some synthesis so I can get the best weapon in the game and maybe do some synthesis for getting the best armor in the game

I don't feel the need to use it, I've been just doing quicksaves and reloading whenever I screw up

FF7 Rebirth on Switch 2.

Bought the physical on ps5, but never started it on ps5. I prefer playing jrpgs handheld. Plan now is to play through it on Switch 2, and I will probably finish it in time for when Part 3 arrives next year. There's quite a few games coming out later in 2026 that I wanna play, so I will probably take breaks from FF7 Rebirth here and there.

And then, if the game is good, I might replay using my Ps5 copy on ps6 when that arrives, since presumably, it will run the ps5 pro profile on ps6.

Do you know what, I think I will. Been trying to think of a good game to play coop with a couple of chums - was thinking D4 but when I saw how shitty their monetisation is and how greedy they are I just couldn't do it. So yeah, Grim Dawn is looking like a good bet, especially with a new class on the way. Good to know constellations are easily respec-able!

Sadly it looks like TQ2 isn't shaping up that well, if its Steam reviews are anything to go by.

Bf6 season 3 ps5 with my brothers. Will try to play again stellar blade 1 ps5 to review my parry and dodges skills for upcoming SB2 😁

I'm playing original Onimusha for second time and this time I'm trying to master Issen counter and deflect but the RE camera makes it very annoying.

So, after I realized that my Fire-Warlock blows on Hell difficulty due to the massive amount of fire resistance enemies (and the advice on reddit was... just run through, you don't have to kill everything... which I cannot accept) I used my last re-spec and went for Magic-Warlock and boy.... that build shreds everything on Hell. I just wiped Andariel easy peasy. Wild...

Playing Marvel's Spider-Man Miles Morales on PC right now but only because it supports Dualsense features.
Can't say i enjoy it very much, idk it's just boring.

Now that I have a pc for 4k extreme , I'm playing forza 6, Indiana jones , and trying expedition 33.

Forza and Indiana are good, expedition I still don't get the hype…
