Gothic Remake |OT| Return to the Colony

I played it early at the release party yesterday - its Gothic 1 through and through with modern graphics.
As a fan since 25 years, i was very skeptical if they would A.) dare to make a game like this in modern times , B.) if they would be able to pull it off. They kinda did, the AI reactions and the way to world treats you are all intact, even somewhat amplified since the early enemies like Scavengers do a bit more damage than in the original. Also, the combat was great, they really took the feedback from the demos to heart.
Bought it right after. They don´t make them like this anymore...until they did.

There is supposedly a day one patch...and all reviews are without it. Just keep that in mind. But I dont know if that helps for PS5 performance. 🤷‍♂️

Just watching Lirik playing it and it runs pretty well on his 10k machine. ;)

My copy's already shipped, hoping this is some miracle case where running at 120hz unlocks the fps on Xbox or some shit, at least leverage that part of the equation.

I can live with 30 fps if they are stable I know most of you guys cant.

Honestly Unreal Engine 5 is such a mess in terms of performance, it looks good but the performance is terrible and these consoles are not powerful enough for this engine

This game running at 60fps on ps5 pro is unacceptable, I'm sorry. No performance patch, no buy. Very disappointed, I looked forward to it very much. I actually stayed up yesterday to finish the bond game to be ready for this, haha.

They needed to take some extra time before releasing this, that much is clear.

Its not a journalist friendly game so probably most of them sucked and hated it.. I wouldnt trust reviews on this one. If you like games like this, it looks like its a good one
I'm sorry, but the performance on ps5 pro is unacceptable. That has nothing to do with being "journalist friendly" or not.

I have immediate purchase regrets because I'm getting absolutely abysmal performances (high 40s to low 60s) even at the lowest setting and with the most aggressive form of DLSS 4.5 activated.
There may even be an amazing remake here, but performances on my system which for the record is relying on a 3080ti) are preventing me from enjoying it.

P.S. PC Gamer and iall its insufferable whining about "punishing outdated design" can go to suck massive cocks on an gas station restroom, anyway.

Dont use 4.5 on a 3000 series card

Is it me or this game's dodge is dogsh...very peculiar? dude barely moves :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

Not even elex dodge felt this bad but it has been a while since i played that one.

Game run well and look ok for now, forced profile M so even dlss perf mode looks great and i can pump up the other settings.

There is a somewhat big hype around this remake here in Germany, unsurprisingly. Unfortunately, I can't understand the hype. I never "got" Gothic. I was playing Morrowind instead back when Gothic 2 came out.

Almost 50.000 players on Steam, not bad for the type of game

I want to see how the slaves look, do they still look like men or not lol
Original has quite a bit of a fanbase

Every animation is bad at first because your character is a nub. You will improve overtime and the animations will get better too

So far so good. I can feel the Gothic atmosphere here and I am pretty sure I will love this like the original.

I have the same GPU with 5800X3D.

On default "Gothic" preset (which is very high) and 1440p with DLSS quality, I had 60fps stable no problem.

HOWEVER, there were few "loading framedrops" as I got closer to old camp, and once I aggroed 20 guys by stealing, my framerate dipped into 40s. But that was CPU related because UE5 is a trash engine. My GPU is completely fine. And outside of camp (and inside it when not aggroing) I have 60fps stable.

Make sure to update drivers if you haven't.

I played both Morrowind and Gothic 1 and 2 when they came out.
I liked Morrowind but loved Gothic. It is a better game overall by significant margin. Morrowind had terrible dialogue system (wikipedia style) and horrible combat. Gothic had better systems for both and was generally more down to earth game. Morrowind had great atmosphere and brilliant music (although Gothic does too).

I know that is the case for attacks with weapons but does the dodge animation change? because for now it feel beyond terrible :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

Btw just discovered that enemies are finite and dont respawn, and i thought i was smart when i attracted 10 dino thingies into the guards and let them do the killing to collect the loot...time to restart a new game :lollipop_beaming_smiling:

the character movement improves when leveling up

which dlss quality are you using and what graphical settings?

Well, I went ahead and bought it, why not? Gothic remains one of my favorites from back in the day, heck I even liked and beat the sequels. I'm looking forward to it, despite any jank present.

Watching Cohh playing it for about 2 hours i really like what i see. Also the 4players review of 90 really helped the MC Score to get better and i think it deserves it honestly.
Also game looks quite nice for an AA production or whatever it was.

I'm glad it does the original justice. I loved how Gothic immersed you in a merciless and unforgiving world without any guidance. In this case, not 'modernising' the gameplay is a good thing. I'm going to play it whenever I get to upgrade my PC. 😅
