Saw this last night. Entertaining but frustrating movie since the protagonist is an irredeemable piece of shit. Glad I watched it in the theater, though. Lots of fun audience reactions

Saw this Saturday night. A little bit surprised that there's no more mention of it on gaf?
Probably a little overhyped for me, and my favorite YouTube reviewers love it a little too much.. but it was definitely fun seeing it in the theater with a crowd. Pretty dumb but well done, if a bit forgettable. I think the director will be a good one to keep an eye on.

Movie GAF is 100% cooked, honestly. I was expecting my post to revitalize this thread with other people posting their fun theater experiences but apparently you're the only other person here to see this new and incredibly popular film. It actually increased it's weekend box office take over the first weekend, which is apparently unheard of.

I made a personal decision to wait for Streaming/VOD like I do with all new films nowadays. I don't watch any of the grifter stuff on youtube. I just like to watch movies on my own time instead of going to a theater where having to deal with a bad crowd is a possibility
I don't care if a film is woke or not, I tend to make my own opinon on whether I like the product or not

I generally prefer to watch movies in the comfort of my own home as well (especially after I got my big plasma TV lol) but sometimes it's worth it to go out to get that theater experience, especially for a fun horror movie like this one. Some of my best theater memories have been opening weekends for horror movies, like Paranormal Activity and now Obsession is up there as well.

I saw it on release (as I do most movies), but didn't realise there was a thread here about it.
I thought it was fun but a very slow burn, it basically jumps from 0-100 near the end starting with the car scene; I enjoyed passenger much more.

It's a pity but the movie discussion on here isn't what it used to be. The Movies You've Watched Lately thread is decent but there doesn't tend to be good film discussion on here beyond that. This movie is more of a 'leaving the theater feeling disturbed' rather than a jumpscare-fest.
Not saying there aren't any at all, but this isn't something like Scream.

Didn't realise there was a thread about this, I just normally post in the regular movie thread or the Horror one.
Anyways, caught this last week and as a horror fan I loved it. One of the best movies of the year so far for me. Not exactly original, typical Monkeys paw tale but super well done and the 2 leads, especially the girl who plays Nikki were fantastic.
Highly recommended.

Well, as an animal lover, I got bad vibes about him from the beginning because of what happened to his cat... it's easy to brush it off as an 'accident' but my initial impression was that he may have been actively neglectful. What's strange is that it almost looks like the kibble is mixed with the pills. I also noticed that there are open wet food cans on the floor... Something weird was going on there...
But yeah, your impression of him is what's presented for most of the movie but the dinner scene is where it becomes clear that he's willfully taking advantage of the situation and her. One might even go as far as to say he's raping her. The scene where the real Nikki is begging for him to kill her and he selfishly asks "what's so bad about being with me?" instead of sympathizing with the woman begging to be put out of her misery... yeah, he's irredeemable in my eyes, which makes for a bit of a frustrating first watch.
BUT I watched it again this weekend and I honestly loved it even more.
Definitely picking up the Blu-Ray when it's released.

I'd expect Blumhouse to run this movie into the ground. Numerous sequels and something along the lines of Saw with expanded lore and all that bollocks.
Not required obviously but its exactly what we'll get.

The first Saw movie wasn't tainted by its sequels.

I absolutely expect Blumhouse to run it into the ground, but I can see some potential in a One Wish Willow series of movies where each one is based on a different bad wish. Could be fun... until Blumhouse ruins it lol

The scene where he tries to get out of bed and she yells at him to stay literally had that happen to me. What an amazing movie but it triggered me.In the end it was all his fault but still shes up there with the ex wife.

Personally I only (?) know two or three people with BPD, one of them is my friend (can I call her that, we were much closer at some point? I'm glad I dodged that bullet) - I watched her toxic relationship in real time (including video chats with me when she said that she is gonna kill herself and started crushing meds to mix them with alcohol) but compared to the movie both she and her partner are batshit crazy (he is also addicted to alcohol and drugs). Fun times...
They are still together after mutliple break ups, violence and cheating.
