Graphical Fidelity I Expect This Gen

The Blood of Dawnwalker:(

Tired Over It GIF

Rockstar's weekly RDO twitter post got 4k+ replies within a matter of seconds. It's actually insane, since T2's earnings call happens in less than 2 weeks people seem to be expecting GTA news any moment now so any teasing from gaming journous and outlets that does not convert into GTA 6 news will have a rough reception at the moment.

if it s ready for this year they would have showed gameplay trailer already.
Nah following their tradition the 'ultimate' gameplay trailers of gta v and rdr2 debuted 2-3 months before release, and trailer 3 (whenever it comes by this point) still gonna focus on same deal story cutscenes like the previous two.

I am 100% certain it's getting delayed.

Why though? Strauss is on record multiple times saying the marketing will begin in the Summer... Next week is the quarterly earnings call. We'll probably know by then.

It's getting embarassing though, seems like people are posting death threats on Blood of Dawnwalker's socials because of the Game Informer thing...

Cross-posting from the OT, and sorry for those tired of Crimson Desert but I think this is quite interesting. Apparently this could be applied on most games as long as Reshade is working, since it's a new shader.

From the RenoDX discord server:

Quoting: "A new shader in development! Simply put it pretends the ground textures have actual 3D bumps so it shades them as if a real sun were shining on them, so flat-looking textures suddenly look real! 100% ReShade shader, 100% every game, every update."

He also mention you can tweak the strength of the effect, but it's set to high for showcase purpose. Really impressive and I'm curious to test it.

Thought? Gonzito Gonzito what do you think of the effect? I think it might transform the textures in this game but I need to see it on my screen to really judge.

I remember when AC Shadows launched, I got through a bit of the game at the time but stopped playing it as it didn't grab my attention.

I thought I'd give it another go in recent weeks, and especially after the PSSR 2 update… and good lord is thus game stunning, the RTGI implementation is one of the best I've seen on consoles. The lighting and shading consistency when compared to older titles is a generational difference. Just wow.

Holy shit that looks awesome. I need to try it when I get home. Thanks for posting it

Where can I download it? I don't find this in the Reno Discord, or maybe its not out yet?

So they "discovered" bump, normal, ambient occlusion mapping? or whatever the latest methods were called.

Was this tech disabled/unused in RT/PT, or what is happening?

It is not available at the moment, but the guy said that he planned to make it public around the release of 007.

In short it simulate the sun on the side of the textures but it's actually more complex than that. He just explained it this way to keep it short. It's normal map enhancement.

It's a new shader added by Reshade, nothing to do with the game itself and that's why we should be able to use this in most games.

Bought Mixtape after seeing some clips on twitter. I really liked the look of the game, and bought it even though twitter hates it. Glad i did because the game is gorgeous, very funny, full of 80s nostalgia, and turned out to be a UE5 title. I shouldnt really call it a game because its pretty much on rails. its more of an interactive movie. Looks really good though.

The game didnt grab me either. The opening areas arent anything to write home about but then the weather starts changing, the vistas become more scenic, the castles become massive, cities like Kyoto just stun over and over again. Its one of those games that keeps impressing every few hours even after dozens of hours due to the dynamic nature of it. I especially remember complaining about the night time, and then other areas in the game bring in dense fog, moonlight and rain, and i was like im a believer.

UE5 planks are just on another level. No modding required.

Sure, but I prefer high quality lighting with superb light bounces and decent textures, to decent lighting and high quality textures.

Overall, a game benefits more from excellent lighting. And UE can't do P.O.M at the scale of Crimson Desert (I took those while I was playing without RR btw so the game isn't even at his best):

Let alone with the same performances. CD has great physics too on a quite big scale and some MASSIVE battle (we are talking about hundreds of NPCs fighting). The water is an interesting step forward too imo but it's been shown over and over at this point ^^.
Also Lumen isn't optimal in UE5 and I've yet to see the Chaos Destruction Engine in action, Nanite is awesome tho. But no engine is without weaknesses, I guess I'm just glad to see another proprietary engine with this king of visual fidelity even if textures and interiors are indeed it's weak point. But overall I truly think it's one of the best looking game with so many features (volumetric fog and lighting, impressive distant view, excellent materials on armor, physics on every single bit of tissue in the world, thousands of object with interactivity in the open world etc...) and still runs quite well.

Love this game, even with it's flaws :messenger_heart:

I finished it a couple of days ago and I thought it was a fantastic game. Of course, you have to like this type of narrative game, otherwise it won't be for you.

If you're just starting out, you'll soon see that there are some really good technical moments, or at least quite appealing ones considering the budget and capabilities of the development studio.

A delightful game for those of us who lived through that era.

I am watching footage of Forza Horizon 6 and is it me or the graphics are just average? It doesnt look very good I dont know what it is but it doesnt feel next gen

Watching the Df review of Horizon and i gotta say it looks really good. Apparently the console version is only an incremental step up but the PCs ray tracing features push it to the next level.

I really like the evening lighting here. It looks just right. The city also finally looks good with some really nice reflections.

Maybe it's because I'm watching it on my oled iphone but this is a very pretty game.

Not just you. I was very excited when it was announced, but ever since the first showing I've been very underwhelmed. The environments and lighting look incredibly bland, the world seems practically empty. I don't understand what happened and why these games seem to be getting worse. I thought 4 was phenomenal, 5 was alright but I dropped off of it. Now with 6 I just have no interest.

Forza Horizon 6 ground textures and look at the geometry of the exhaust pipe lol. This is not next gen sorry

And the whole map is just empty, how is this Tokyo lol

I don't know what next level you are talking about. Surprised that you were impressed. May be watch it on a bigger screen? It has nice reflections and... that's it. The RTGI is basically non-existent if you don't stop the car in a shaded area. It's more subtle than even Ghost of Yotei and still exclusive to PC. Tokyo was the perfect setting for indirect lighting and they skipped all of it. No RT emissives, nothing from the headlights or street lights etc. Heck, a single bounce means you don't even get nice shadowing in the gaps between buildings.

And almost everything else is the same quality as their last game, which was pretty good for the time, but this falls squarely in the "cross gen update" category.

Looks good as an overall package and seems to be a great game, but isn't that impressive from a graphics standpoint imo.

I dont agree, it looks great. Are you watching again the footage in your 2003 edition italian nokia? :p
What does look great? it barely make any ripples around him while he swim...ac origins has better ripples than what i see here...

Didn't even watched the submarine part, the first couple of second turned me off badly.

edit: yep, water reacts better in origins

the frontal ripple is completely absent in BF.

Not saying that origins water is realistic but at least it gave you the impression of a body moving some water...

Horizon Forbidden Carbs still the KING on this stuff.
If we ONLY talk about ripples, fw is good but not the best imo

i think rdr2 still has the best ripples, even better than crimson, but crimson has the best overall water physics because water actually act like a physical entity with a presence for lack of better words, it is especially noticeable during a main mission where you take out giant stone pillars from the sea and you can see the water physically sliding from the pillar like "real water".

I expect wonders from the water in gta6.

I mean of course dark alliance still has the best ripples but we keep that one out to give a chance of winning to the others :lollipop_squinting:

It's actually mind blowing how this looks legit better than 90% of modern games water physics...

Ok, stupid question, but is Rockstar periodically releasing GTAVI screenshots or are all those from that first pic dump they did when trailer 2 released?

Old screenshots from the dump indeed. I made a thread at that time with plenty of them:

Its cool they "bounce" back. Nice. But also check out ripples in Atomfall. Not everywhere, but the fidelity.

Day of the water!

Subnautica 2 UE5 Early Access waters:

I like it so far, though it has its hitches. This is gonna stay in EA for a long time...

Proof that game devs can be retarded.

Yes, lets take a look at the Switch 2 because you know Switch 1 before it, held back graphics last gen. Oh wait, no it didnt.

I dont know what reality these twitter fools are living in but i just upgraded to a 5080 last year, and im already having to turn down settings in many games because next gen features are so expensive on the GPU. devs will keep pushing visuals. they are all graphics whores like us. at least the ones not working at Nintendo and Sony who have completely given up.

BioShock still looks stunning? To me it always looked like crap, that unreal 2.5 game was antique on day 1.
