Subnautica 2 Game Preview Gameplay Trailer

Expected way better visuals, there's too much cringe yapping and a fucking knife twirl.

I dunno man..

Subnautica one was one of the few survival games I didnt gel with, it felt really padded out. More than most survival games.

But im keen to try a co-op version, I know the original has mods but a fully designed co-op from the ground up could be fun

To be fair I love survival games and we have a serious lack of single player focused ones. I fell like when there is coop involved everything becomes a chore when you are solo. In Subnautica everything was tailored for you to be only one and it was part of the atmosphere. I hope this one is strictly single player too.

What made you feel the OG was padded out?

I enjoyed Subnautica a lot, and I'm sure the story and gameplay have some nice iterations.

But I expected more after 12 years, this looks just as flat and dry.

I guess ~$150 million wasn't enough to invest in engine upgrades.

Yeah, I have the same concern too.

One thing I loved about the first game was that the protagonist didn't talk at all. For me that just made the game so much more immersive, I really felt like I was there. The sequel Sub Zero completely ruined that aspect of the game for me, with the main character chatting and talking and such. Subnautica 2 seems to be more like Sub Zero than Subnautica 1, and that bothers me. 😞

Satisfactory got it right, where its just like Subnautica 1, the protagonist doesn't speak which makes the game very immersive.

Co-op is officially featured in Sub 2.

Hopefully it's designed for single player at least.

I couldn't think of anything worse than playing a game like this co-op.

Without any real focus on combat, just about the only thing in previous Subnautica games worth doing with other people is resource gathering. I certainly don't want some internet rando fucking around with and messing up my sandbox base building designs and customisation. Fuck. That.

I would have hoped they restrict co-op to e.g. very specific opt-in excursions you can do, to plan a route, plan what resources you want to try to obtain, kit yourselves out to mitigate expected hazards and then head off to try to succeed or fail at it.

Otherwise I expect it would be a nightmare to try to play.

I think the visuals are fine but the yapping in that trailer is a huge turn-off.

Can already see what's going to happen:
>come across a dangerous creature
>"Look out! That one is a category 6 apex predator! Be very careful. Larry lost his hand to one of these"
>swim away
>"Wow that was close but I'm glad you're safe, I've uploaded the data to your PDA for future reference. Larry will want to hear about this"

After the first game they decided to go diverse black female protagonist so of course they had to prioritize her instead of the rest of the game.

Hard pass.

You forgot to mention the QTE as you hold its jaws open and the "CLOSE CALL! +100 SubTokens" in-game achievement for mashing buttons.

Looking forward to it, liked the 1st one quite a bit.
Though I fear it's also gonna be a technical mess.
Pop-in and stuttering were atrocious in Subnautica, even after leaving early access.

It's now in unreal 5 too isn't it? Or am I mistaking it with something else?
