Nintendo should have used the Starfox model from the Super Mario Galaxy movie. That one is perfect. The 3D model for the game looks terrible, like a creepy stuffed animal.

Characters are ugly. Everything else looks too clean. High production value but ultimately soulless.

Star Fox 64 OG and Star Fox Assault are where it's at.

And nothing tops the OG voice acting.

Seeing them side-by-side, I think Zero is the only one that really nailed all the characters. They were perfect there.

Peppy got done dirty in the 2Ks. I mean, he's old, but they went too far there. And Slippy almost always looked oddly out of place, including his latest version.

I like the new versions and James McCloud is an absolute badass there, but Zero had the best designs.

It could be worse.

I'm fucking crying.

The only odd thing is the fact that we received two visual changes to Fox almost at the same time... Fox from Mario Movie is so different that Fox from Star Fox game... . i mean, when DK received the visual update, it was consistent, at least.

The characters always were goofy looking. Because it's disney like talking animals for no reason. Science Fiction and kinda cute animals clash for me otherwise.
I either want humans or aliens, or if it's based on earth animals I need a GOTG Rocket racoon backstory.

I think Falco's chicken legs are the bigger problem, it's a shame they didn't go with that one theory that was floating around for a while that the metallic looking knee high boots they all wore were actually artificial legs and all the characters got their legs amputated at the knees to help not pass out from G force.

I think it's awesome.

I've always kinda hated the "Fox's head is shaped like a church bell" stuff. This new art style is exactly what was needed. Good on Nintendo!

Slippy, as always, looks magnificent.

Wow, when you put them side by side, the Mario Galaxy one looks more like someone's "Fursona" than Starfox. Sorry haters, this is the best Starfox since since N64.

Yeah outrage culture still at an all time high. Everything is either the next best thing or the worst thing ever. It's exhausting.
Or youtubers who post "We need to talk about", "this broke me" or the worst "This changes everything" accompanied by an exaggerated surprise expression pic to themselves not the thumbnail.

I still cant believe people watch that nonsense.

The movie one looks exactly like I would expect the cartoon version of the one on the right to look like.

It looks like this

so i like it.
if it looked like this I would like it but it doesn't. Falco's beak is too small and their legs look weird (it was way better with humanoid legs). Also, Slippy looks like he's on DSSL 5 filter on some shots, which sucks.

I was put off at first, but I must admit the designs have grown on me, though I still would have preferred the look of the Mario Galaxy movies.
The main reason I have zero interest in this though is that it's just Star Fox 64 again.

I don't care much honestly, but I did want to say how fucking awful those designs are for Assault. Whoever's responsible should be locked up.

That is all.

Nah, the Mario Galaxy version looks cuter, but the remake Fox is the real deal that's not fucking around.

I think it's great, very CG movie like. The realistic animal look is a little bit weird, but it gives them distance from the furries.
They messed up the Katt character, the western consultants said something about Male Gaze, ok... Let's club her with the ugly stick.

I meant it's the same "puppet" style.

Most people saying yes are in the "who gives a fox" category because the overarching narrative or appeal of the series doesnt really mean much to them. Its "new" to them since most only know him from smash or that awful movie and its weird look is interesting to them.
Or... bear with me here... they simple liked it. I know, crazy, right?

I like it. They made everything more gritty and realistic. It would have been weird if they used the goofy version of Fox from the movie or something similar.

Also, James McCloud is my new favorite Nintendo character.

it looks great, now also fix the gameplay and I'm interested.

I remember playing the original when it released and even at that time it was already boring as fuck. A 3 hour long on rails shooter for 150 bucks (at the time) was just crazy shit.

They should've properly remade the game with free flight.
I have to sincerely doubt you played it at release if you were complaining about fucking game length in 1993.

Unless all you played were RPGs, nearly every console game back then was around an hour or two to beat, tops. It wasn't "crazy shit" at all.

On topic: I think a lot of the hate the new designs are getting is a bit ridiculous. Im quite frankly sick of the hyper-cartoony and overexpressive animated designs popping up in general all over video game and visual media, so I think the designs actually look pretty interesting and unique. Falco does look fucking weird though. The rest look cool.

I'm getting Mario kart world vibes. It has all the bullet points but feels corporate.

Like the artists were treated like animals in a battery farm.

I'd be glad to be wrong. I echo whoever said it looked soulless but I'll keep an eye on it.

What upsets me most about this franchise is that the original composer was underpaid. I also think Miyamoto never "got" the franchise and didn't really care about the gameplay (especially zero).

It looks awkward - especially the ship designs. They look like plastic toys and they don't evoke the sleek futuristic aesthetic of the original photographed models on the snes posters.

The water looks cool. I'm not sure about the ship movement yet.

I'm interested but not excited. Old fox with the sunglasses looks cool though.

Needs more inspiring details like that.

Yes. the only people that hate them are the weirdos who hate that they sexual the furriers fantasy.
Andross Brain is GOING TO GIVE PEOPLE NIGHTMARES and im here for it.

I'm divided.
I don't actually like the direction of the game. Photorealistic doesn't suit Star Fox to be honest, they should be more animated like Assault is.
Still looking foward though, but I really think this is not the correct visual direction imo.

Characters desings looks amazing. The movie design works well in the movie, but that design doesn't fit in the game at all without making the whole game looks like a colorful fantasy space furry adventure.
