Honestly, I'm happy for Housemarque. They've earned that kind of attention. I'm really curious about what they're working on next.

I don't know if this is great or not, but I'm pretty sure Saros is not meant to be a bestseller like God of War, The Last of Us, Ghost of Yotei etc.

But I'm happy that Sony keeps supporting games like Death Stranding 2 and Saros. And thank God Housemarque isn't a Californian studio.

I don't think this game is going to sell more than 2 million life to date, but that's probably the expectation. I would be surprised if the budget was more than $60 million so that's even better.

As long as it sells enough for Sony to no close Housmarque or putting them to work on some live service game, I think it's good news.
I'm personally not too interested in it, but it would still be a shame to see Housmarque go

If I had to choose i would rather have Housemarque as a first party developer than BluePoint. Obviously best case scenario you could have BOTH. I feel like it's easier to find another Studio that does really good Remakes. BUT it's almost impossible to find another Housemarque.

It's not selling well. It's not supposed to, but still.

. The ratio sales/reviews is a good indicator.

Saros - 4,5K reviews

Returnal - 24K reviews

Expedition 33 - 97K

Stellar Blade - 89K
The game has been out 1 week. What kind of comparison is this? Also, Returnal has been out 5 years, including 4 years on PS+ . I would argue 4.5k reviews is a decent start comparatively. But who the fuck knows?

If Sony is expecting mass appeal then they will be disappointed. Its not that type of game. I think it's probably a hit for the more hardcore crowd and thats ok.

Sony should be good with that and recognize the importance of these types of games too. Not everything needs to be Marvel or The Last of Us.

Demon Souls Remake is a great game, but the only noticeable changes Blue Point made were to the graphics. They have never shown the ability to develop a game from scratch, or even enhance the gameplay of the existing games they have remade. I didn't understand the amount of blowback Sony got for shuttering them

If Sony ever shutters these studios, I will be upset

Naughty Dog
Guerilla
Bungie
Sucker Punch
Housemarque
Insomniac
Sony Santa Monica
Polyphony Digital
Team Asobi

The word is extrapolation.

Just giving some data to put things in context, also considering the time factor, of course.

IMO, Saros would be fine if it reaches Returnal's sales. A lot will depend on the word of mouth.

Pretty sure guerrilla is safe. lol. Hulst would make horizon breakfast cereal if he could.

Thats actually pretty bad considering the top ones are pretty much always there and not much else released around this time. I doubt it even has a million sales. I dont think Sony will keep them much longer.

Has it even sold 1 million yet? Where's the sales announcement.

Not sure why that is expected now (just kidding, I know why!) when Returnal hit 560K units in 2.5 months.

It was never going to be a bestseller. Hopefully it will sell atleast better than returnal

First game benefited massively from being a launch window title when PS5 was the hottest most sought after shit on the planet, and was an intriguing new 1st party IP. This is releasing in PS5's downward trajectory twilight years and is effectively a $70 expansion pack of Returnal, and is also fully PS5 exclusive with no PC release to pick up slack. Lot of things stacked against it unless the larger install base really buoys it.

These almost certainly are revenue charts and not downloads, so being behind only MTX and FTP games is kinda great actually.

Probably a ceiling of 3-4 million lifetime. But Finns work for fish and marijuana rations, so the game probably turned a profit already.

Saros is significantly outperforming the PS5 version of Marathon, which had around 660k players in its first month (Ampere). If this keeps up, it'll likely hit 1M pretty quickly.

It's been less than a week. Chill. Returnal has sold <2M so 1 million in 6 days for Saros would actually be impressive.

Sony needed to price it reasonably if it wanted to sell more copies. The game is on the level of E33 in the $50 range and not $70.

fair enough but Returnal launched at the same price and kept Housemarque going. Still, I mean in terms of hitting 1M or getting a sales milestone announcement you're not going get those in only 6 days.

In what universe is this an impressive metric? Didn't this game just come out?

I'm not saying this means the game is doomed, but I fail to see if this is something we should celebrate?

I hate to admit that the $75 USD price tag stared right back at me with Saros. Not often, but Pragmata was $60 and Diablo was $40. I get so fixated on new games that I rarely care about the price. Makes me wonder if release day expectations are the only time to care about a game? It's like the game gets the weekend to sell and then boom, "life time sales" post to boost even more sales.

Ngl they seem to make incredible atmospheric worlds, I am just bummed that saros gameplay is just reskinned returnal.

I'll be buying tho eventually but just saying, I would love to see what else they can do.

I hope the game isnt expensive to make and Sony keep letting housemarque making cool bullet hell games like this.

Returnal was a launch title, this one should sell more with the install base being much bigger. It looks like the opposite happened.
The sales ceiling for a title like this is really not directly proportional to a console's install base once you get into the tens of millions, taking into account that it was primarily aimed at a hardcore base that were likely PS5 owners early on. It should sell more, but to double in one week what the previous game did in 2.5 months? That's an insane expectation.

I mean, Returnal also wasn't some gangbuster seller either. I don't remember Returnal's first week or month sales numbers, but this seems pretty good for the budget and in line with Returnal.

I don't think Sony is expecting God of War numbers so this seems like a decent but expected result.

Housemarque does top tier gameplay mixed with some experimentation on their part, never focusing on sales, if it's selling well good for them, I don't want a another Bluepoint situation...
