Rebs Gaming: Halo 2 & 3 Remakes Are In Development

It is incredible how Microsoft are just fucking unable to make a new (and good) Halo game. One of their most important IPs.

I'd love to see a faithful remake.

Unfortunately this is 343. They're just gonna flip assets and change the story to make it lame and ga- I mean congruent with new lore.

I can't take it any more, bros.

This shouldn't surprise literally anyone. Especially after they decided to remake Halo CE versus port MCC. They were always doing at minimum the original trilogy.

Porting MCC to new platforms allows them new sales on said new platforms, but these remakes will get them sales on Xbox One, Series S/X, PC, PlayStation, and Game Pass subs as well as Switch 2 if they decide to later. I still think these are mainly to pull people in on new platforms aka PlayStation more then anything while allowing them to make more money.

Let me guess, no multiplayer
no multiplayer because they cant make it GAAS and thats all these idiots care about
Yeah, I wish there was multiplayer (though I'm not one of the guys who thinks CE is useless without MP because I don't associate CE with MP nearly as much as 2/3/Reach) but they have to be working on a new Halo multiplayer title and I doubt they want to be out there trying to support 4 titles all at once.

Plus, they already ended development for MCC unless something changed that I missed so porting MCC likely would have only been single player as well on new platforms (I would have still bought a single player only MCC on PS5 or even ala carte because fuck Halo 4 outside of H4 Cortana)

The most important, it's their Mario. The parallels between Xbox's success and failure is directly mirrored in Halo's success.

If they could deliver Halo and Gears like they did in the 360 era they would be fine.

People shit on Microsoft for their prior focus on the "big 3" aka Halo, Gears, and Forza but there was a reason for it especially during the 360 generation.

Microsoft was very smart to see the potential in Halo/Bungie when they did. Honestly if the franchise stayed the way it was (strategy-ish game and Mac exclusive having been originally announced publicly by Steve Jobs which still blows my mind that people don't know that) I doubt it would have blown up the way it did.

The key however was always Bungie. Say what you will about modern Bungie but Bungie of old was god tier. The problem with non-Bungie Halo is simply that the people in charge and the devs don't understand Halo (which is funny because you can say the same thing about modern Gears as well) and what made it fun and/or unique. 343i (fuck you, changing your name doesn't help) doesn't know what to do and never have and I think that should be painfully obvious to everyone now that they are just remaking Bungie's titles versus making their own.

Unfortunately only one of those franchises still have any sort of major quality left to it (I say major because I still play Infinite multiplayer from time to time and it's a good game now, but it still pales in comparison to the Bungie era).

People say that Halo isn't important anymore but it's only not as important because they can't release a quality title. If Halo had continued to be of the same quality or a new title was Halo 3 tier it would be extremely important.

Guess they might pull a Marvel and figure out a way to make everything after Halo 3 (like Doomsday) like it never happened. Everything seems to be going back to what worked. Slowly, but hope we get back to better writing across all mediums.

Good games are hard to make. Zelda would be an important IP for anyone, but those Zelda dungeons with 3D puzzles that Nintendo makes is only possible because of the incredible synergy, philosophy, and craftsmanship of the people/team that makes 'em. There's a reason Nintendo/Iwata bent over backwards to keep Masahiro Sakurai on Smash Bros, despite him leaving Nintendo during the GameCube era (got him a team, an office, a big budget, almost everything Smash surrounds that guy). Donkey Kong has never since re-captured the atmosphere of the SNES country games since Rareware left the series.

Losing Bungie was a big loss for Halo (of course, Bungie is not who they used to be either, so it's mute now). Microsoft didn't understand that the talent, in many ways, are far more important than the IP by itself. No Marty O'Donnell on the soundtrack will naturally lend a different feel to the series' atmosphere. Different management styles, different vision for characters like Kortana (lol), and a different team synergy, are going to produce new results, whether for better or worse. I think most today believe it was for the worse.

Microsoft knows how to spend money, and by golly, they spent! The Halo games don't have an investment problem. They had other problems that required more money to be wasted on fixing them, because the Halo IP was so important. But no money is going to replace having the right people where they need to be. And so we have Halo where it is today. We'll see if Sharma can understand talent, and get the right people where they need to be within this massive organization that Phil has ballooned out the stratosphere.

Just play MCC, everything has been ironed out. I really don't understand why these exist other than cash grabs.

If the game is broken (gameplay/controls/etc), is expensive to buy original, and/or graphics look hideous, I get it.

However, the MCC is totally fine like you said.

I think this is just companies wanting to do the bare minimum, while padding out their game catalog.

The last time I played MCC multiplayer it was a hack fest but it's been quite awhile since I bothered. Singleplayer has obviously been fine for years.

Im not usually someone who's against remakes but this is just like TLOU Part One... Why?

The MCC is good and on modern systems... With multiplayer lol.

Are these remakes just buying them time to figure out how to best proceed forward with a NEW instalment? When are we going to catch up with Atriox?

TBH, the could probably rename MCC "Halo" and just put all the games in it. The game is already designed to download the different games in chunks depending on what you want. Just add the new ones as additional DLC or something.

We hear you

I don't get peoples fixation on this series. It's only had three good games. Those games were fun, but not clamber for remakes fun. Just make a new high quality entry with the old games as blueprints.
