Marathon approaching 15k CCU low (sponsored by coachmcguirk91 - still having a blast)

Don't hate Men_in_Boxes Men_in_Boxes he is at home, lighting up blunts and shouting at this thread

You got me thinking. You know what this game could REALLY use?

Runner bots. Give casuals a chance to shoot at gear-laden pushovers once in a whileE
Exactly this. loving the game but there is only so much stomping a person can take... They need a PVE only mode, so bot runners in varying difficulty. This will then allow more casual players to have some fun and get used to the game, the mechanics, the objectives and maps. Some dudes are literally no lifers and play 247 and have all the best loot. Even as decent player, YOU HAVE ZERO chance against someone with purple or blue shield while you have none...

Div2 7.2K vs Marathong 6.3K. Div2 winning the low battle. Next up: Peak.

Don't be shocked if they do end up moving up the charts. The game has a TON of content with more coming this year, including one more mini-expansion.

Not sure what accounts for it's sudden resurgence, but I think its both promotion of the content/game, it's on sale usually and the looting aspect is just something people have missed.

I'm convinced that if Division 2 had the first game's setting, those numbers would be significantly higher.

Snowy New York was an incredible backdrop.

Game is good. Loads of content. Movement a little clunky but it's good a lot going for it. Ubisoft never get the credit they occasionally deserve.

That snowy setting is returning--they've already confirmed it. I believe it will be in a new Survival mode and probably some other events later this year.

I'm always amazed to hear Division 2 is still on trucking.

But yeah. Agree with all this post

None of this surprises me as an ex-Destiny player.

Bungie stubbornly insists on making data driven decisions. The problem is that data takes time to collect and unfortunately makes them too late to address anything in a timely manner, no matter how many devs they have. They then make hilarious under or over tunes to the weapons in question because their data didn't actually teach them how to fix the problem, just that there was one. In the mean time many other problem weapons get ignored because their data only points out the worst offenders for a given period. They're incapable of play testing their own games and feeling them out to make rapid micro adjustments on a weekly basis. The funnier part of all of this is that the data driven approach is meant to avoid fuck ups, but Bungie fucks up constantly anyway, so why bother with the data?

Marathon is heading where Cruicible ended up unless Bungie can get out of their own fucking way.

Some more interesting stuff i was able to gather:

Like i said Expedition 33 and Death Stranding 2 are meant to be 30-60 hours games, but i've decided to check how many people played them for over 100 hours (again from the review sample).

Expedition 33: 14.028 out of 262.962, around 5%
Death Stranding 2: 1.263 out of 19.309 , around 6~7%

Where does #Omegagenre Marathon stands?
Marathon: 3.164 out of 46.514, around 6~7%

So yeah, #Omegagenre Marathon, master of engagement designed to be played for more than 100 hours, is basically sitting side by side with 50 hour-long single player games :pie_roffles:

Now, where do SP games meant to be played for over 100 hours sit?
Baldurs Gate 3: 331.717 out of 835.593 , around 40%
KCD2: 52.509 out of 179.091 , around 30%

Btw this is #omegenre Arc Raiders
Arc Raiders: 82.983 out of 384.807, around 21~22%

Its over Men_in_Boxes Men_in_Boxes we have the high ground

Don't try it

I think it has a much better chance of being the next concord than marathon... like a quick swift death over a slow one

That's the spectrum of GaaS failure.

Concord on one end and Marathon on the other.

Quick crashout or slow lingering death spiral

We need a meme of that to guage future failures and where it falls on the line graph.

I'm convinced it's because when it launched people played it at 30fps. There is wide gulf between how the game plays at 30fps compared to 120fps, or even 60fps and high res on PS5 and XSX. So fucking choppy on last gen systems. And there's just tons of content especially with the 10yr Anniv. push and the Cherry Blossom festival. I love how in the recent update the Kitsunebi kill squad will pop on you after completing missions/challenges. It's one of the best co-op shooters by far with heavy focus on PvE.

The amount of content you get for the sale price is insane compared to barebones Marathon, or even Arc. And it has an extraction MODE if that's what people are into. Marathon's whole game is just a single mode in Div2. I don't know how 500+ people could work on something for years that has such lack of content.

4 pm completed hour, 16k.

Yesterday same time 15.7k (+2%). Peak was 20.3k. So add 2% and you get 20.7k tonight.

Last Friday same time 19.9k (-20%). Using a similar day, its peak was 25.4k. So less 20% tracking to 20.3k.

So tonight, maybe it ends up about 20.5k.

Happy Friday for the remaining runners.

There's no way Bungie isn't worried with these numbers, mainly on Cryo days. They're probably crunching in the studio to make big changes before season 2 hits, otherwise I don't think many will stay for it.

Absolutely, the map alone would add so much more to it, game has a lot of stuff to do, but the setting is kind of lame compared to the now iconic Snowy NY

" You'd be helping us build and evolve it for the future of Marathon."

If you read the posting, it is definitely a brand manager focussed on consistency, messaging, and marketing.

Weird, usually they have one in place previous to a big launch. And if they did, what happened to that person?

With a major project, a brand manager is in place for atleast 6 months ahead of time to ensure the launch hits hard. It's not great to change mid stream or months after launch.

Giving them the benefit of the doubt, the previous one could be out for personal reasons like maternity but still, they would have been handled way ahead of time from within.

OR.... they never really had one and someone in marketing was pulling double duties. This is Bungie. wtf.

11 pm completed hour CCU. Peak reached at 21k
All time peak was launch day 88.3k. Today's peak at 21k is -67.3k or -76%

Today vs yesterday: 21k vs 20.3k (+0.7k or +3%)

Yesterday's low 6k. If the rate holds, low tonight will be 6.2k. Will be higher as it's a Friday night. So maybe 8k

Fri vs Fri: 21k vs 25.4k (-4.4k or -17%). Slightly better than historic -20%

Alternate method to estimate peaks and valleys (ballpark ratios)
On normal weekdays, 3.3:1. For example, a peak 20k will have a low of 6k. For Fri/Sat, gamers stay up playing so the ratio is 2.5:1

Steam Rankings
Daily Active Users 97
Global Top Sellers 78 (-20% sale boost this week)
Weekly Top Sellers 81 ending Apr 21 (was 67 last week)
Top Rated Games 5,796 (84.20%)

I only have weekly bounties worth of Crucible experience but wasn't PvP in Destiny went bad not because of poor decisions, but because of lack of trying.
I always thought they put their PvP A-team to work on Marathon totally ignoring Destiny PvP existence.

I wonder how other non failed studios at sony feel, they gotta crunch, bring their A-game and push to the limit, while those lazy parasites at bungie getting away with presenting such a low quality product that brings big losses month over month and are allowed to their huge 6 and 7 figures salaries despite all this :P

The ccu performing this poorly either way is a huge story. Yet people wonder why we enjoy tracking it. It has consistently underperformed and that's been a hell of a ride. If the failure of this game eventually becomes a true story then the ccu watchers will have been ahead of the curve. It's just huge gaming news at this point. gigantic game flatlining here. More people should post in this thread, lol.

If you are a lurker please give us your thoughts. Is the game salvageable?

To everyone what does Season 2 curve need to look like for the game not to die after launch?

I personally think they must/will give almost all new quests. Even if the patch is glazed by everyone nobody might care. The game has a rep now. The community has a rep. However unfairly. In my entropy example earlier, I said this game is a closed system, but it isn't, there could be external things that happen in the gaming market that throw this game off course, even if it does everything perfectly.

We need a graphic, a marathon CCU train, with everybody's avatar from the last 10 pages on it.

Div2 10.2K vs Marathong 7.4K. Is this Asia at this time of day?

This thread has 2k more posts than the OT, and Marathon is the most popular/viewed game on SteamDB. Players are definitely taking notice, but the journos seem to be downplaying and running damage control. Either way it's been a fun ride. I'm curious if this is the last week it will hit 20K?
