Marathon approaching 15k CCU low (sponsored by coachmcguirk91 - still having a blast)

Funny thing is everyone here as far as I know is respecting the OT "safe space" ... nobody is shit talking the game there... i think this makes them even more frustrated somehow.
I'm not one of "them." I don't even play it and never will - i even predicted the flop a long time ago. But going over 100 pages to celebrate the game dying is starting to feel a bit obsessive.

By far lowest concurrent players yet.
Current competition here.

Maybe it is a little obsessive, but it isn't devoid of reasoning, even if you dont agree with.

On steam charts now there's a game called Cookie clicker that is above it with 200 more ccu.

Marathon is ranked 133rd at 8,596 CCU. And server downtime isn't for another hour.

So, apparently all this incredible anti-cheat and lifetime ban stuff was total bullshit and even the biggest supporters of the game don't want to play ranked because every high level match is filled with cheaters.

Even other creators are suggesting not to play ranked on stream because it makes Marathon look bad:

And just like I mentioned two weeks ago, this toxic community that the game built would be contributing to its death:

Am I, or are you full of shit? Show me one example of me "crying" about what Sony spends their money on. The only crying was you, throwing a fit because people don't like your game. I couldn't care less what Sony wastes their money on, in fact I think it's hilarious, and nothing they spend money on could be worse than the 3.6 billion they already paid for Bungie.

And, yes, we know, you're "having a blast" playing Marathon and aren't at all worried, which is why you ran to this thread and crashed out over a half dozen posts just today. We totally believe you!

Just because you are the loudest hillbilly in the thread doesn't make you right, now show me the 12 plus post where I've "crashed out" in this thread. I've been posting on gaf for a decade and a half and I will continue to do so and If you don't like it tough tiddy.

U assuming its darkest right now, we didnt even get to trully darkest time yet, just wait few more weeks xD
Wait till 24h ccu peak even durning weekend and in US primetime gets below 20k, that will happen in april still :messenger_smiling_hearts:
That's what you do.

My concern is the April 14th update and the S2 update. Those two points tell the story. It's obviously going to keep losing players until the game is fixed.

It`s crazy that everyone and their dogs predicted this developement from the time the very first gameplay material was published and yet managers greenlit a AAA budget for this?!
Maybe it`s recency bias but it feels like extreme disconnectivity between producers and consumers in the AAA gaming market has never been as pronounced as in the last ~5 years or so. Makes you wonder what happened that seemingly sucked the talent and competence out of so many long-established studios in one fell swoop.

And yet, it has proven to be a very entertaining journey! 😁

The game has flatlined in the last few hours and no longer following a bell curve. Could be players anticipating the server maintenance or the numbers are so low it's finally causing matchmaking issues.

Simple - these companies, especially the western ones, have pushed out anyone who isn't a corporate cheerleader, a DEI zealot, or a live service grifter.

Shuhei Yoshida getting thrown out in favor of clowns like Jim Ryan and Hermen Hulst is a prime example of this, and directly lead to the mess Sony is in now.

Nice dodge, clearly we both know I haven't said word one about how Sony spends their money, you just lied to use the "hypocrite" nonsense because you had nothing else. And you have been crashing out. I'm not the only one who picked up on it, multiple other people, five to be exact, mentioned it as well.

You came into this thread whining about a game you like getting mistreated and couldn't handle the pushback. It's no one else's fault but your own that you wandered out of your safe space and into here. And this "hillbilly" doesn't give a damn that you've been posting here for a decade and a half, which you haven't btw, do you want a fucking cookie? Post wherever you want and I'll continue to do the same...goes both ways, your highness.

You live in a parallel reality, where is this compelling genre you're talking about, it's an in-game mode stretched to its limit to serve as a new genre and it's not pulling the numbers to be called compelling at all, this ain't BR and Bungie is not serving first in this race to win over mainstream popularity

Marathon is a mistake

Sorry dude, but its not just a 'mode' if done right.
Look at Tarkov and Arc.

It's not only about this game dying. It's about Bungie and the whole Live Service push going up in flames.

I love it.

Does anyone have the patience to calculate the half-life on this?
This is a text based chart provided by Grok if Bungie does nothing to stem the bleed:

Day 0 (Launch peak): ################################################## 83,000
Day 5: ########################################### 71,424
Day 10: ##################################### 61,463
Day 15: ############################### 52,891
Day 20: ########################### 45,515
Day 25: ####################### 39,167
Day 30 (~Apr 5–7 now): #################### 33,705
Day 35: ################# 29,004
Day 40: ############### 24,959
Day 45: ############ 21,478
Day 50: ########### 18,483
Day 55: ######### 15,905
Day 60 (early June): ######## 13,687
Day 70: ###### 10,135
Day 80: ##### 7,505
Day 90 (early July): #### 5,558
Day 100: ### 4,116
Day 110: ## 3,048
Day 120: ## 2,257

No chance that will remain as Bungie will definitely make a move. They will not do their PvE rotation while Marathon dies, but I'm not sure if they can make changes at the level needed in time.

There is also the possibility there is a core audience underneath that will never bleed. Grok warned, "Exponential models can overestimate long-term bleed because retention often plateaus at a "core" audience (highly engaged players who stick around for the gameplay loop)." As mentioned, Season 2 and the first major patch are going to be interesting to check for spikes.

The problem is simply that Sony makes such high profits with its gaming division that they've come to accept this kind of nonsense.

The amount they spent on Bungie and the game output they've produced are simply pathetic.

I have no idea how they can deliver so little content in games with such high development costs and such long development times.

They could have revived many well-known franchises with this GaaS garbage (like the Socom II remake) instead of wasting money on such unsuccessful garbage as Concord or Marathon.

In the same way that the blast-havers look at this thread and can't understand why we're interested in watching the game flop, I don't understand why it's so hard for them to grasp your point. It's not just about Marathon.

Some of us paid $500+ for our PlayStation 5s over the past few years expecting to play a bunch of quality single player exclusive games since that is exactly what Sony and its studios are known for. We didn't get that in large part due to the focus on games like Marathon. In the absence of the games we wanted to play and out $500+, we're enjoying watching Sony set another pile of money on fire.

Why is that so hard to understand?

Steam CCU guys are our paparazzis, it's fun to follow.

Instead of sitting in a bush trying to get an upskirt photo of Dua Lipa, they are obessing over peak numbers.

Again the artstyle really doesn't help. I have seen many people just saying nope just because of the artstyle.

I found it incredibly repulsive when I played the beta, but that's me. But I do think I was not the only one thinking that.

And what were they thinking with that UI?

Still remember I said one line in a past Marathon thread before the game came out like at least it'll do better than Highguard. And two fanboys got triggered so bad that they left a whole essay to my comment which was just one sentence lol.

Glad the game is flopping hard.

There's no new map coming until August at earliest, so this could very easily come to pass. Season 3 might end up as lost media.

You guys are at the part of movie where the military shoots some missiles at Godzilla and it recedes back into the ocean. You're one part foolish military celebration and one part intelligent scientist tracking its movement. The duality is a joy to watch.

This thread is a monument to Marathons greatness.
