I'd love to be a fly on the wall at Bungie.
I think this meta argument of hardcore v casual is not helping either. A lot of us here have played CS at its peak which is as hardcore as can be, and enjoyed it. Some if us got facerolled in scrims, or facerolled others. And a lot of us have played and got wins in Apex.
I think a lot of gamers don't gel with the unfairness aspect of Marathon. Like I know now I'm not as good as I was years ago when I just had a 9-5 and would literally have my dinner at the PC table. So I'm already at a disadvantage. Then my buddies are mainly PvE guys so I'm a matchmaker in all games for better or worse. So another disadvantage. Then getting beat and having worse weapons against other teams with essential kit. So why bother? I have too little time and lots of other PvP games to play which are more fun.
If Marathon WAS hardcore they would have no shields and no revives and ironically that would appeal more to me. If it was one death then all these trios running round rezzing would stop. A low TTK just means getting clipped means you do actually lose your stuff.
But then you'd have the 'top' players now crying that nobodies can kill them easily.
The whole system is basically set up to be a ganking game which is no fun, and unsurprisingly this is what happening. I'm still astonished this took a studio of Bungie's size 4/5 years to get out the door. The more I hear about this, the more I realise it was just a party dev that blew all their money and indulged themselves.
