If they push cloud without support, it won't last long, and if we support native gaming capabilities for as long as they are offered, then chances are good we'll see it longer. Nothing is guaranteed, of course, but why take the chance? Why be picky about next-gen hardware that will play games natively because of "reasons"? Given where the prices are going, if you are able to afford to spend money on gaming, then you have enough disposable income not to be picky for "reasons".If there's anything we've learned, game companies don't see gamers as customers; they see gamers as addicts. If they want to push cloud, they'll do so regardless of what you want or how any particular hardware sells. So let them push cloud, let them die. Someone else will be there to pick up the pieces.
Next gen systems are fucked. Where are ppl going to trade in their systems towards the new ones with no gamestops around. They had pretty good trade offers the past couple of gens. I dont see most ppl selling their stuff on ebay/facebook/craigslist.Craigslist.
Even though I can afford it I'll probably sit out the start if all we going to get are cross gen games with higher fps/res.
PC is the way, fuck consoles
This place isn't an echo chamber, different views are everywhere. Some people even lose their shit to get people to boycott console launches due to price and then end up buying said console, everything happens here. This is the truth, but supposedly if you say it on here, there is alternative motive.
I think it is the best place to play and ultimately offers the most flexibility and consumer friendly practices of any platform. Has longer lasting hardware as well but for some reason, if you mention these things it's seen as a negative on here.
I know lots of Xbox media shill people were shouting about PC in the last year or two so I get that. It doesn't take away from the truths though.
Well they should think about that before making it so only the wealthy can afford it. 500 or no deal. That was already a lot. Sorry as an adult I have other hobbies and bills. I could swing it but who knows how the economy will go. I was laid off for 3 months. I no longer work in it... Thanks Ai grrrrrrr.... I had to get a job in a field I have never done and who knows what the future holds. I know many others in similar predicaments. Buying ps6 for near a grand is no go. Shit and for me I don't even own a 4k TV. 1080p is fine on my pc and my ps5/switch2.If WE sit out the start of next gen...you realize it's over, right? We're the hardcore, day 1 buyers the hardware manufacturers rely on to pick their wares up; if they have to rely on the casuals, they're cooked.
I wasn't defending them. A $900 system is retarded. Personally, I think this is Sony's way of paving the way for their hybrid system.Well they should think about that before making it so only the wealthy can afford it. 500 or no deal. If it is expensive they need to subsidize it by eating thr cost like with ps3.
You talk about logic, but then you gate the comparison to some bulky case that isn't even remotely needed. We don't exist in the days of HDDs being the only storage, or needing CD drives. No, it isn't, and not by a difference of €100 or €200, but by much more... and I'm only talking about the PC, not including the necessary monitor, since I'm not going to install a bulky PC in the living room.

Unless you are buying top-end components you plan to run hard with needed cooling, a mid-tier to budget setup can fit in a mini-itx case the size of a launch PS5. Going bigger is just for looks and more ports on the board.
If memory pricing resets, the price difference used to be a few hundred, the people who attach more got a bad deal or are getting something with better specs than a console. Ease of use is gonna matter more for a console purchase, or in the case of Nintendo exclusive games they make.
Yeah, PCI 3.0 alone was something fast enough to run newer GPUs until the RTX 4000 series. I just re-purposed my old 2019 PC components into a NAS, so I could have remote storage, and only really needed to buy some new HDDs, and the intel 9700k CPU in there is still better than Crimson Desert's minimum requirements. Also what people seem to never take into is parts reusability on the pc. In the past 15 years I've only had two pc cases, and the newer one is simply because I wanted it for more airflow (old case was still great in that regard, just not quite as good). Storage can be reused... same with PSU's assuming you don't buy junk in the first place. A mobo/cpu/mem combo can easily last multiple gpu upgrades if you don't go for bottom barrel in the first place. And again.. the price of games on PC alone make them more cost effective long term and the fact that they are ALWAYS backwards compatible so my library just grows.
Even my setup (cpu/mem/mobo circa 2021) paired with a RX9070 isn't going to have a problem riding through the next gen consoles if I wanted it to.

The lack of a sub to play games online and cheaper games is a benefit too, but people think more in terms of upfront cost.
Yep, 3.0 is still good enough, but I know people like to get the most value out of whatever new thing they buy. It's not a huge handicap, especially for budget gpus that most people have.Oddly enough 3.0 16x still gets you 95+% of the performance of 5.0 on a 5090. https://www.techpowerup.com/review/nvidia-geforce-rtx-5090-pci-express-scaling/29.html
Even a 12 year old cpu like a 4790k is still usable in a lot of new titles, just don't expect miracles out of it. That said, as you noted people typically look at up front costs but I argue that over the course of a five year window PC's are absolutely cheaper especially when you can repurpose them for non gaming uses.
