Fortnite raises prices to cover increasing expenses

While this feels like a "nice gesture" I can't help but feel like they look at games like Helldivers 2 wondering how they could do something similar. So this is just that. While free, I wonder if they're going to restructure the monetization.
The game mode is great co-op, Loved playing this with one of my friends during the early alpha but he past away just before the game got it's official release in 2017, I never really cared for the BR mode as we had already gone balls deep on DayZ and then PUBG.

I'm just glad it's finally showing up on Switch 2 after they had claimed it wasn't coming onto the system. I'm guessing money is getting tight now if they having to pull this off.

Oof, i take off fort for 3 days and it all enshitifies. Wonder what will happen to crew if Battle pass v-bucks are getting nerfed out of the free tracks.

3ish months ago they readjusted the values for mission and quest vbuck payouts, some rounded up and some rounded down.

They've also kinda been bug squishing and balancing some stuff in STW player progression over the last couple years, at a slow rate but doing it none the less. They did however, streamline some player power calculation and removed a major element of player classes and skills synergizing as a team in exchange for a (early)Destiny 1-like power system related ONLY to the highest powered weapon you currently have in your inventory. Silly-simple-shit.

There will probably be a rise in people checking out the mode but people are friggin stupid these days and will probably drop it the moment they see numbers and class/ability bulding resulting in the STW team just overly diluting the mode even more for these lamp brained indivisuals.

I couldn't agree more, I've had great times with it. I just can't help but feel like they've got something shitty planned for doing this.

Billions in profit every year just aren't enough.
What's cooler than making billions?
Making trillions.

They prolly just really needing to make more v-buck sales this with prices going up. A whole new game mode across all systems for free is how they gonna pull that off without needing to try and sink dosh into possible colab content like they have been doing.

This way they see fresh set of players willing to drop a bit of money on the new mode.

I'll always praise them for making such a huge game without making it P2W.

But claiming costs as the reason for an increase is the kind of pr that makes me dislike corporate culture. Complete nonsense imo. They just want more money,

Wonder if it won't be long before they stop allowing you to earn your V-Bucks back in the Season Pass.

That sort of inclusion on the pass is the reason people keep buying them and pretty much every other game with passes does the same thing. Removing v-bucks could see major negative regardless of short term gains that may be seen from it.

In a time where folks are thinking twice about their subscriptions I doubt they want to be fucking around with what's working.

If anything they need to look at how they can increase player count and maybe increasing the amount of V-bucks on passes to give illusion of further value during these trying times.

The trick is to keep roping in new generations of kids too, something Disney and Nintendo figured out.

So yea if Roblox can do it they have a long life ahead of them. I know Fortnite has tried to do it, but they seem to have failed becasue young kids care more about Roblox.
But that's the thing, Roblox doesn't have to figure it out. The kids will make the games that interest them and their peers

Hopefully Twine finally gets a campaign mode so they can continue the story. Also confirmed that founders will continue getting their free vbucks.

This is the reason I haven't played Fortnite in a while, they are constantly fucking around with it. Granted the V-Bucks in the pass is a key method of keeping a level of engagement going, but what I'm implying is if the casuals are dropping off that might be an indicator of how to drive revenue from the people that are addicted to it regardless, granted I think they have a long way to go before that.

This video game with mega crossover potential that puts all previous mega crossovers to shame has finally become too good to be true.

I play Blitz with friends frequently, and Rocket Racing is about the most fun arcade-y racer that no one plays, but... with this price increase, especially to the "exact amount" category, means it's finally time for me to tap out and move on. And it's such a shame because with that The Simpsons map they put out in November, I was marking out to all the easter eggs and references included, because that was, beyond any doubt, the best The Simpsons game we're going to get in this decade. Like say what you want about the greed, we will never get a game that even comes close to bringing together all the games/anime/comics/movies to the level that Fortnite did. And the part where I can make Goku dance like a buffoon to the tune of Weezer's "Buddy Holly"... no other game will let you legally do that. And that part is the part I'll miss the most when this game eventually dies off.

They make around $400 - $600 million USD per month on this game.

How is that not enough to keep it running? That's crazy.

While the $12-a-month price will be unchanged, Fortnite Crew will offer 800 V-Bucks each month, down from 1,000--that's 2,400 fewer V-Bucks per year for those who stay subscribed. Combined with the changes to V-Bucks on the battle pass, you're looking at over 5,000 fewer V-Bucks each year from being subscribed to Crew.

So game pass raises prices and includes fortnite crew for added "value" for the price raise, and then now fortnite crew gets gutted? lmao.

It really took me a long time to work out what the fuck you were on about. Then I remembered the origin of fortnite was that base builder defence game which was more of a tech demo for ue4.
Flashback to when Cliffy B, Mr. Gears of War himself, was one of the leads of Fortnite:

Insane how lucky they got with fortnite.
They struck while the iron was hot IMO: they saw PUBG blowing up in popularity and wisely decided to pivot Fortnite in that direction.

Ive had about 4k vbucks sitting in my account for a while... booted up new season today played a few matches went to the bathroom. Came back to discover my youngest went to the battlepass and bought like 30 something levels w my vbucks, totally wiped it out. Haha ahhhh children. Was trying to keep some on hand in case they really do release courage the cowardly dog as a sidekick soon.

Considering the battle pass is used to… *checks notes*…. unlock extra cosmetics.
yes, right, you don't even need the battle pass to play the game because it is really free to play, but if you need something to keep you focused then its best to just buy the battle pass and ignore all other cosmetics which did get more expensive.

Does any other game's battle pass give you enough premium currency to buy the next battle pass? I found that to be cool in Fortnite personally. I bought a battle pass in 2018 and could always get the next one just by playing.
