Fortnite raises prices to cover increasing expenses

They have been adding and expanding so much to the Fortnite platform that the expenses must have gone through the roof. And now it comes back to hurt the game.

What usually got you 1000 v-bucks, will now get you 800.

And if I read it correctly, the battle pass is now 800 bucks, but they removed all extra possible v-bucks, so you can only earn back 800, not 1500 as before.

wow so now u cant even buy item shop stuff?

havent touched the game in years and i remember them killing save the world vbucks which was greedy as hell

i used to have a creator code and u can tell how well the game is doing if randoms are using your code
 
Can't stand loosing 10% of several annual billion dollars. Gotta rake back this tremendous loss before going broke. Totally understandable. /s
 
Makes sense - all the stupid shit collabs which are the only reason a lot of people are playing must cost a lot.
And Lego Fortnite, custom modes and games, Delulu, and Blitz and all the stuff they are trying to do. They want Fortnite to be a massive platform, and at this point it costs so much to run all this that earning billions each year still ain't enough.
 
Also Save the World (the original Fortnite) is going F2P soon



Founders are currently holding onto their butts because we're hoping they don't remove the ability to earn Vbucks in STW

Making existing stuff expensive is usually a sign that growth has plateaued just like subscription services. But the game is coming back to play store last I heard.

But yeah future growth is roblox, not fortnite.

Not always, it's also a sign that they want to up the profitability curve. For example:

You make 1mln with 10 people
You make 10mln with 100 people

You are scaling linearly, not increasing productivity.

It really took me a long time to work out what the fuck you were on about. Then I remembered the origin of fortnite was that base builder defence game which was more of a tech demo for ue4.

Insane how lucky they got with fortnite.

You're giving them way too much credit. They're asking for more just because. There's no way they "need" to with their income.
 
A couple years ago Tim Epic made major layoffs and restructured the company in part because of the insane amount of money they were spending on Fortnite and pivoting it to being a platform.

Guess that didn't work out as well as he was hoping...

Here's the reality that people don't talk about enough... Fortnite came out in 2017-2018 tiime frame. The people who started playing the game as tweens or teenagers are now in college or entering adulthood. Are they playing Fortnite still? Some are, but probably not as much as they did in high school. Many have moved on. This is just a built-in reality of this type of entertainment, it's transitory. People assumed that because boomer entertainment (Star Wars, Rolling Stones, etc.) was popular for 50 years all this stuff is permanent, but it's not.

Good point. So he wants freedom for his own store, but than walling himself up as well. Its a bit contradicting, yep. But my point stands, the lawsuits themselves are not bad imho.

Typically yes, but the creator of the game actually uses his money to buy plots of land to protect them and preserve the natural habitat

So it's not entirely a black and white world
Sweeney used his massive amount of money and built in fanbase of Fortnite to sue Apple and Google, he didn't leave years of growth for a measly 10-20 percent extra revenue. Internet can hate him all they want, the man did something that all of the internet combined couldn't and wouldn't be able to do, suing the biggest companies of the world all over the planet to get them to open up their locked in hardware. We know mobile (android and IOS) isn't going anywhere and winning the cases will have an effect on software (and apples and googles ability to control it) for decades.

Roblox still has a long way to go (and no doubt upscaling simple graphics into photorealistic ones will help expand its reach without increasing the hardware requirements) but its like a platform of gaming that goes everywhere. And as it becomes easier to create games, I don't doubt Roblox could be everywhere one day, the potential is nearly unlimited.

The trick is to keep roping in new generations of kids too, something Disney and Nintendo figured out.

So yea if Roblox can do it they have a long life ahead of them. I know Fortnite has tried to do it, but they seem to have failed becasue young kids care more about Roblox.

I have no idea whose side you're on, but I agree with you

(Granted I'm on no side either, I just like to bring up that fun fact of him buying land to prevent its destruction)

While this feels like a "nice gesture" I can't help but feel like they look at games like Helldivers 2 wondering how they could do something similar. So this is just that. While free, I wonder if they're going to restructure the monetization.

Tbh, I have no clue about game pricing on apple/google devices. But yeah, Sweeney just wants to get rid off the 30% cut and than make everything exclusive to himself. That was always his goal...and it backfired heavily on windows, because there was always a way better store and consumers straight up refused him.

I mean he got his way with Google and Apple.. and immediately raised prices on Fortnite MTX as can be seen in this thread. Freedom!!! 😂
