Tom warren gets upset at geoff keighley cause keighley called 'project helix' a PC-based Xbox hardware device.

It a PC, otherwise co-pilot won't make it and Asha Sharma will be sad.

I can slap an Xbox licensing chip on your high end PC and it becomes a console.

Consoled is now a verb!

Either way:

If it plays GTA 6 day one even if its running an Xbox Series version what do we call it?

Legit question because I no longer know what to call it
It's a console when it runs console games, and it's a PC when it runs PC games...?? It sounds just as ridiculous as "is it a PC or a console?" and you realize how pointless this debate is.

It's simply hardware or a physical platform that gives you access to games. Whether or not it's the right platform for a particular offering depends on each individual's needs.

The debate is basically what one sector has decided to use as a rallying cry to discredit the offering, when the evaluation of that same offering should focus on other, more important aspects (features, quality of materials and design, power-price, limitations or level of walled gardening, subscription requirements, catalog, etc.).

We don't even know to what extent it has more console or PC features. And the funny thing is, its potential users probably couldn't care less what it's called and more what it actually offers and in what conditions.

Imagine it runs on Windows and still delivers a console-like experience: easy access to games, console-like build quality, innovative features typical of consoles, and (most importantly) a more than satisfactory gaming experience that rivals any traditional console....... Or even that Studios and publishers give it console treatment (TakeTwo for example)

What's the point of this discussion then? 🤷

The real question is: will "Helix" also get Xbox versions of current and upcoming games? Frankly, I can't imagine it. Who would want to incur that additional expense when the PC version runs just fine on the same machine?

So, the question of whether "Helix" is a console or a PC is essentially moot, because virtually any PC can emulate console games, especially those from the previous generation. Microsoft will simply ensure that this emulator meets the requirements of publishers and developers.

Therefore, I simply maintain that "Helix" is a PC.

This is already starting off like the Phil Spencer era or during that particular time where they just said a bunch of shit hoping it sticks. They haven't learned the damn thing and you can make good hardware that is powerful, everybody else does. They are messaging and whoever is in charge of anything at Microsoft just sucks. At least the peons that they put as the face of the messaging.

Again, a lot of us who love the console and PC hardware business are interested in anything. But you have to have some competency behind it and Microsoft strategy with gaming and PC has been and continues to be all over the place.

at least they finally came up with a name that isn't totally confusing, for the first time since the 360. I still can't remember which Xbox Series Letter is the good one and which is the bad one, and the only way to easily make it clear which Xbox you were talking about in the gen before that was to call it the Xbone, which they hated lol.

It's just the project name -- like "Project Scorpio" before the Xbox One X came out. Don't worry, they still have time to call it something confusing.

Microsoft is going to work Copilot into the final console name somehow.

The logos do look a little alike.

It's a console when it runs console games, and it's a PC when it runs PC games...??

Schrodinger's console.

Hint That "fight" would be like cardboard standee of Ronda Rousey going up against prime Mike Tyson.
I wouldn't be so sure of that because this will be a long fight & MS is already playing dirty with deals with AMD so at some point kids getting new laptops \ PCs & devices will be greeted with Xbox & have no idea what Steam is .

I've never been as certain of anything in my life. The only way Microsoft could compete against Steam is if Gabe decides to sell Valve.

Gabe isn't foolish enough to underestimate Microsoft even if they messed up over & over again on PC.

Valve has tinkered with hardware for a while and Deck/GameCube is more about Linux being an alternative to Windows for gaming should Microsoft's OS footprint start to faulter. Microsoft is not a threat to Steam.

In my opinion, I think it's a console that runs PC games.
It's not a PC, because I think the OS will be very limited, without the possibility of doing everything you can do on a PC, with a locked bootloader. Imagine people using hacks, mods, emulation, etc., I don't think they'll allow that.
Steam Machine, on the other hand, is a PC, and you can use it however you like, including removing SteamOS.

Technically speaking, the current Xbox is already like that. The Windows VM is used to run apps like browsers, Spotify, etc.
What's changing is that now we'll have apps from companies like Epic and Steam.
