Hell yeah man. The shitposters have all gone to bed so now the people actually playing the game are mostly loving it.
Hell yeah now we can circle jerk all night long bois
juice it my oh face GIF

OK, I had enough.

I played solo for around 3-4 hours.

πŸ€”... I remember hearing that video game developers use tabletop games to study and learn rules and mechanics and shit like that. Like, the game designer wants the player to engage in certain ways. Even if the player thinks they're "outsmarting" the system or playing it "their way" (within the confines of the world's rules), the game has to account for that in order for the player to still have "fun".

So... I am thinking:"go to the map, grab random shit and then get the hell out, sell it and earn credits" while doing this loop, I am getting familiar with the map, items and the points of interests. At his point I don't mind just exploring, scavenging.

First issue: the sound design is subpar. In ARC is clear when someone is in the same building doing their shit. Here, is hard to pin-point the direction of the sound which also is kind of generic like muffled steps or sounds that could pass as just enviromental ones. (you cough get in PVP confrontations that feel random and put of the blue, there is no a strong build up)

The other issue I have is that the extraction points aren't persistent in the world; they appear and disappear(when used) somewhat randomly. There were several times when I just wanted to leave, but the extraction points activated on the other side of the map. So I ended up running across the map, only for them to get used just as I was about to reach the location.

So what happens?
That the "win" condition gets robed, "blue balled" out of my hands. This breaks the loop. Instead of confrontation (PvE, PvP) + extraction, the climax becomes anticlimactic. I think this is very bad, it was so bad that just made me quit.

Regarding the gravitas in the actual game... This game doesn't feel like a finish product. 😬

I really don't get it. Arc had approx. one morbillion pieces of shit and junk to clog up inventory and about twice that of garbage to craft and waste fifteen minutes between runs. But people are complaining about THIS inventory UI??!!

I don't want to live on this planet anymore. Putin, press the button.

Yeah, I don't really get the UI complaints.

Is it perfect? No, but it's easy as fuck to figure out. I've played a whopping two matches and have no issues.

I really don't mind the UI

It seems visually overwhelming at first but if you just take 2 minutes to actually look at it, stop, think and read the text on things it all makes sense

I'm not an extraction shooter guy but played 3 matches with rando fills, got 3 extractions? Last one we got downed in the circle with 3 seconds left but still made it πŸ’ͺ

Huge W from them, already acknowledging the feedback and they covered all my concerns

I like that they ack'd PvP frequency but told people to get out of the casual mode to get sweaty. I appreciate there being a chiller option for un-sweats like myself lol

Skill trees are good too - overall I like it a lot more than I thought I would

The 3 points being used makes new 3 spawn is what happened in an earlier game for me.

The loop right now is go in, do quest, extract. Along the way things can change like loot, more or less PvP, and world events for juiced loot moments.

This allows you to level factions which give you skill trees to progress, some more keen to your play style than others, as well as expand their shops and rewards, while getting more lore.

On release add in a ranked mode, and a high level raid boss to chase.

As it currently stands it has far more content than arc BUT a roadmap will show if they can feed it events like arc has.

There's an underground red area on marshes that is very very red lol

Thats the only area where my eyes have shock

This is exactly what I expected personally. Love the aesthetics, UI is not a problem. Shooting seems good, Reticle action goes hard. I am only interested in doing contracts and get out.
Coming as a huge Destiny PvE fan I knew this isn't for me. ARC solo seems more fun but that is my preference towards TPS.

This won't get shutdown (lol) but won't beat ARC also. Good luck Bungie.

I'm taking about the win condition of "extracting". It makes me feel the "solo" play is an afterthought, just like proxy chat

I really don't know how I feel about this. I really played like 3 games only . Or 2 and the tutorial.

I am going to play it more ti give it more chance.

I don't like extraction games. Arc is not any different .
.the gun play and the graphics are surprisingly nice on my PC maxed out. Like really not bad at all. I kinda like it and I like the smoke effects etc.
Gun play is ace. This is Bungie. They know their shit

But man the game is not fun . I don't get it. I get dropped. To loot stuff. There is a big ass chance I'll die and I lose my shit . Especially considering I am playing with random and many times this is just a disaster assuming your team can't loot your stuff. Because if they can then lol they will dump me the minute they get my stuff and leave the zone.

But in general aside from the above. What is the point of this ? Like in team death match or battle royal the objective is clear. Be the winning team etc. Here is basically you are ... What ? Just drop you in an area for 20 mins and you need to get ur ass out ? I don't see stuff like this fun at all.

If I am being honest If this is the purpose only, it would be piss me off . I don't see this fun at all.

Does this game have at least a single player or story segment I can finish if I bought the game ?

You won't like this. It's pure extraction. There's no single player other than doing solo runs

Yes, the goal is to drop in, complete objectives, get some loot/gear and GTFO

It's not for you, and that's ok. If you like single-player action RPGs play Crimson Desert on 3/19 instead

I have this same problem with every single extraction game outside of COD DMZ and Division: wtf am I extracting? I quit extracting in Arc because I was killing players with good weapons without any issues. So free loadouts is all I took. The guns are way better in this. But what's all this other crap.im extracting with?

I'm not trying to be dismissive but what the fuck did you expect?

You don't like extraction games but yet you downloaded and played a game that is explicitly been marketed as an extraction shooter since day 1? Yes that is exactly the point. It's an extraction shooter. You extract.

You either somehow haven't paid any attention to this game at all in the past 2 years, or you just want to complain about the game. Which one is it?

Yeah, the loop of these are drop in, get a bunch of useless crap, try to leave. Arc is flat out boring outside of the PvP. Marathon seems better because the objectives are there (you actually need to activate them). But then the game requires you to really have a good team.

This is not going to be for everyone. I like it but that's because I like shooting stuff.

You really trying hard to gather all the negative posts.
That's the funny part, I'm not. Just open Twitter and see for yourself. The reaction of this game is mixed at best (if we are trying to be nice)

We get it you hate it, now you can move on with your life
I don't think you get it, my man.

I don't hate it. But sorry, this game doesn't feel that it's coming from the so call experts in GaaS and one of the most legendary AAA devs studios in the FPS genre.

I'll do a large write up tomorrow on here of tips, info, and what is the point of the game or the fun for folks.

I think games like extraction shooters, MOBAs, and fighting games all struggle in similar fashions and ultimately if you LIKE the core game then you will subject yourself to losing and frustration to learn it to have fun.

If you don't want to go though that process a bit and just want immediate gratification then try call of duty which rewards you just for existing with plus exp and awards.

It's okay that you don't like the game, but trying this hard is just pathetic.
It was a cheeky reply to this:

Hell yeah man. The shitposters have all gone to bed so now the people actually playing the game are mostly loving it.

So... if you don't like it, then you're a shitposter, and only people actually playing it love the game?... It's always they same. πŸ™„

Well, I tried, "servers are not available"
πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ.... Bungie, little indie studio first GaaS. Can't handle the load.... 🀑🀑

I'm in.. So let see

4McdaVqtqm1x0Ek1.png

Well, now we know the hype was just astroturfed.
This game comes across indie in comparison to Arc.... And probably it was twice or even more expensive to make πŸ’€
.... My feed went form "Marathon is so peak, aura farming, aesthetics, the music made me gawdg, haters went missing, even haters are loving the game nowi." to this.

I still can't belive how much trouble I'm having to enter the game....again... Indie (the bad indie) vibes with this one.

I don't even think this is all of them in this thread alone. I just got bored of finding them all.

But yeah, you don't hate it
Also I hope you know that social media tailors your feel based off of what you interact with so you get all the negative Marathon posts because you interact with them. Much like somebody else in here said my feed is quite varied.

Edit for context: You posted so many media leaks I couldn't even quote you without editing the majority of them out lol. I had to remove probably 20 twitter links to even post all of which were negative twitter posts.

AI enemies drop ammo, and you can find ammo caches in buildings. You usually have to fight for them though.
yea I got all mine from killing clunkers. incentivizes hunting them down I guess, and while I wasn't "swimming" in ammo it hasn't been a problem yet

Neither. I tried the same with arc . Was my first extraction game to be honest. I don't usually play these games. But I tried the server slam and didn't even complete one mission. It was uninstalled, however the hype around it and after release made me think to my self that I should have given it more time maybe I would have loved it. Which is why I am trying to invest more in marathon to see if I can actually click with it. Imma still try and play tomorrow and so on. But I am just trying to understand how can I have fun with these kind of games. Because I really like the shooting in this game. It's polished and awesome. But the gameplay mode extraction is not really clicking so far.

That's what people are sayingπŸ€·πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ. Feel free to engage with my actual opinion after playing the game...ironically, I'm not parroting the same thing everyone "hating" the game is saying πŸ‘‰πŸ§

Yep. This is garbage. Pure filth. Extraction shooters are the worst genre to hit gaming since well ever. There is nothing worse than this. No cod, souls, overwatch, or moba clone is as bad as this shit.

Graphics are nice. Decent art style. But there is nothing here to play.

Can't believe Bungie made this and cancelled factions. If i was in charge of Sony i would take everyone involved in greenlighting this over Destiny 3 or any other Bungie game, and send them to Afghanistan. Live under the taliban until you come back to your senses.

Can't believe these guys made halo 3, reach and the vault of glass.

Marathon would've had a better chance to succeed if it had launched before Arc Raiders, which brought more attention to the extraction shooter genre and raised expectations. More ppl can point out flaws which they may not have noticed if they had no other game to compare it to.
I share the same sentiment entirely, having played a few games the menu and UI is terrible and when looting there's just too much going on or the aesthics of the menu isn't helpful. Arc does this perfectly. The gameplay is decent but there is literally no fun element to it.

so i thought it was gonna be more like a halo type arena shooter, but with loot involved... or i guess like that mode in The Division, just on bigger maps. i didnt realize i was gonna be walking around for 10 minutes picking stuff up, not knowing what it is, just to get killed by a robot with no respawn.
like i knew it was extraction, but the trailers made it seem a lot more close quarters and fast paced. like the size of a larger halo map... and you die, you lose your loot and respawn, try to get loot again... which i guess it is.... but no... not for me.

Yeah, same. One of the reasons I avoided to engage with the AI enemies.

This is a non issue.

If you load in with a free loadout check your grenade slot - it's often an ammo box you place to pull ammo out of.

If you're not doing a free loadout make sure to bring a lot of ammo for your weapon/weapon types.

For scavenging it in the map, other players usually have the most, bots have the second best bet.

I do think they could have ammo bins around the map in key areas to focus on if needed but it's part of the risk reward at hand. If you have infinite ammo then the risk of getting out alive goes down a lot.

The intro cutscene makes me wish they made an actual game based on the story and not whatever this shit is.

First (and only) game I opened the first case I come across, a bunch of plants exploded, poisoned me, and I died.

People here seem to be miscomprehending some of the negative feedback on the ui.

It is not a matter of not understanding the skill tree, not understanding loadouts etc, it is about visual design choices and the impact of these.

There are many terms you can throw at this. I'd say if I was giving feedback on another piece of software bringing the same kind of elements we would be speaking of visual fatigue, clutter, cognitive overload, poor visual hierarchy, overstimulating ui etc. In non-meeting-room-buzzword-terms, everything from spacing of elements to prioritization of elements combined with the selection of colors and shapes makes it tiring to look at, which in turn distracts from the oversll experience.

I wiuld love to see some gaze plots or heatmaps of how everyone looked at this.

I understsnd what they are trying to convey, I think, but they would have gained from leaning even HARDER into it and letting people select different types of computer ui:s in settings. Say terminal style, old school web page-ish, standard windows etc. Of course that would mess things up further. :D

But it wouldn't help people differentiating the various elements on screen quickly when playing. There is a problem when people have to get used to something you intend to hit critical mass.

I dunno if I am too stupid or some genius but I genuinely cannot understand why so MANY are having issues with the UI. Yes I agree it could have been designed less "in-universe" and gone with a more standard approach but perhaps it is my time with Hunt Showdown, Warframe and recently Wuthering Waves but the UI took me 2 minutes to get used to in Marathon.

It literally requires less clicks to get your gear ready compared to Arc Raiders lol.

My major gripe with it so far is the TTK. I feel like even on bog standard shields it is simply too fast.
