Resident Evil Requiem Showcase - January 15th (2pm PT // 5pm ET // 10pm UK)

Shit, if I had that on lock, I'd get us both matching sets.

I really can't wait, I like that they didn't give us too much info so we can still start the game fresh, I hope this is the last we hear from the game till launch.
Looks great but I wasn't blown away with the visuals like I hoped I would.
Seriously? Idk what other game have you seen that has better visuals but this is the top of the notch

I don't mind that they didn't show much on Requiem, but I guess since it's the 30th anniversary I thought we'd get a demo announcement and maybe even a TEASE of a RE5R. or CVR.
Explain to me how a company that has their biggest launch in less than two months is going to distract their audience with games that are not even announced yet?? It is so weird to not understand basics of marketing to this level

Yes, and frankly I can't remember the last time I was impressed with visuals. Nowadays I am mostly impressed with the use of shading, or creativity in interaction between character models and environmental assets. In terms of models and textures, we've hit diminishing returns for quite a few years now.

Just woke up. So there is no demo?

Nope. They said there won't be a demo last year and looks like they're sticking to it.

Maybe a post-release demo, but nothing pre-release. Likely to avoid data-mining, which seems to happen with all the RE demos.

Leon is Grace's father vibe from the Elpis tease.
Not that RE doesn't go balls flopping about with retconning and their lore, but this would be a pretty big stretch for them to justify.

I believe Alyssa was in her late 20's when she survived Racoon, so that makes her a sight older than Leon (21) and, suuure, I guess you could justify they'd met…but hooked up?

it would seem wild that he'd never had any knowledge- like She'd had to have been born by RE4 as Requiem takes place in 2026 I believe…Grace isn't much older than 25.

I think Leon had something to do with Alyssa's murder.

After watching the showcase, I'm definitely not preordering.
Graces's gameplay sections look great, and I'm glad that they are implementing some of the original slow-paced, terrifying horror aspects.
Leon's action 'carnival horror ride' sequences, on the other hand, are just not my bag.
The series has lost its appeal to me since Resident Evil 4, except for Part 7, which had somewhat less carnival action bollocks.
Moreover, I don't give 2 shits about (fancy) cars or watches in a horror game. What was this all about?

Before jumping in, I guess I'll wait for the release and skip through one of those early youtube playthroughs to determine if the Leon segments are annoying enough to ruin the game for me.

I can't deny the Leon action segments look incredibly fun to play. If this is going to end up being a good and focused RE game is debatable, but this might become an excellent Mercs game if we go by the action gameplay.

But it does have RE6 vibes all over.

Good to see that you like some games at least 💪
I like specific franchises, but if they suck they suck. Unfortunately I started gaming with resident evil on ps one back then, so I really have no choice. I even played the shitty ones, can't help it, as a re fan.

I even like re6, but what bothers me is reqium not having 2 seperate scenarios. Switching characters midrun is worrying, even re6 had 4 seperate scenarios mate.

This looks great, so glad I can play it third person. Graphically looks stunning, are they showing path tracing for all their content?

I don't get the mentality of "Leon is too experienced for his gameplay to be horror oriented".
That's because they've based their game design around a false premise. Both Manhunt (PS2) and TLOU(PS3) have expert protagonists and are 'scarier' than any of the RE games.
Both games are based around experienced killers - Manhunt's Cash as a criminal serial killer and TLOU's Joel as a man forced to kill lots of people.
'Scariness' and 'horror' in games comes from a fear of losing in-game progress paired with extremely graffic, horrific content.
In order to be scary a game needs to objectively exceed what's allowed under the M-rating in terms of intense violence and gore.
Both Manhunt and TLOU should be rated AO based on their content but ended up with inaccurate M rating in the US and the PEGI18 (AO) rating in the EU.
A big barrier to RE ever becoming 'scary' is Capcom's unwillingness to take RE where it needs to go in terms of graphic content.
Capcom can keep RE as a kid-friendly multi-plat 'horror' game or they can evolve it into a legitimate "Horror" game for adults that's objectively terrifying, but it can't be both.
The best any kid-friendly multi-plat 'horror' game can do is allude to horrific things and pack in the cheap knee-jerk jumpscares.
Real Horror will always be a thing that's Adult Only because in order to be "Horrific" it needs to be disturbing to a point where it could potentially damage the young mind.

Leon section look good but i could not give less fucks about the outlast sections with the chick.

They should have done 2 separate campaign instead of forcing this shit for half the game.

The Grand Guignol in full effect. The hit detection and gore on those white lab coats is great, and Leon's squishy finishing moves are quite something!

Not that impressed tbh, seems a backwards step to go back to less scary and more action based forcus of RE4/5

But will see in the final game

They're clearly straddling both camps, half their fans love the scary RE7 style and half love the action-heavy RE4 style. So with Grace and Leon Capcom are hoping to have their cake and eat it too as the old saying goes.

Ugh, Leon's part looks like more RE6 than that supposed scarier version of REmake 4. And It will inside the same campaign with Grace's. And half of the showcase is...advertising about products I don't care. Who was this showcase for?

I don't know, guys, I enjoyed most of the RE Engine era, so it's not like I can't enjoy anything. But this screams identity crisis. How can I get scared with enemies I humiliate like John Wick half of the game? Also, I never like Revelations structure. And why including the ink ribbon system but just for Grace? It feels so weird and half-assed. Why not two separate campaigns like RE1 and 2?

I don't get the negativity, RE2R + RE4 gameplay seems like a natural evolution for the series.
Of course execution matters here, but it makes total sense in theory. My hopes is that the levels are big enough so you can enjoy both scenarios to your hearts content.

RE 6 started out like the old RE and then went far too action based. I hope this doesn't get the balance wrong

In theory it seems like a solid idea incorporating both gameplay styles, and I'm sure it will work well for people that actually like and appreciate multiple games in the franchise.

But for certain immature tourists type I could see some issues arising bitching when switching to Grace, that they only want to play giga kewl guy Leon, getting mad when the game isn't RE4 2 and maybe throwing in some casual sexism in here and there aswell since Grace seems like a bit of a scaredy cat. Those kinds of people can and should be ignored of course, but it'll still be annoying to see that bottom tier IQ discourse.

The game looks great,

but I'm just... burnt out with RE at the moment.

Feels like we doing the same thing too soon. RE7-2make Stalkers still feel fresh in my mind, i don't know if i can do another one.

Hyperbolic af, in Outlast you have no weapons and have to hide all the time. I haven't played Outlast Trials but the first few were like that. Grace's sections look to play like RE7. It's like RE7 for the first half and RE4 for the second or maybe you go back and forth.

Those guys can buy the PC version. I'm sure there will be mods to play as Leon or Grace through the whole game in like a week lol

They say she has a pistol with very limited bullets, so you are gonna hide a lot dude, read between the lines.

Btw i don't like re7 neither so even if ot was like re7, i would not be happy about it.

I'm open to be surprised tho.

I don't let games decide how I play anymore. I do make exceptions for From Software games, but if a game is forcing me to be annoyed, I use mods right away. There are too many games and not enough time for me to be frustrated. Infinite ammo it is if they cuck me on my boolets.

I don't like fix games with mods and completely change the dev vision even if i don't like their vision, if i'm not convinced i just don't buy the game.

Also, my opinion about the game would be flawed because you are not even playing the same game as other people basically.

I'm wondering why the trailer showed identical gameplay scenes for both characters. For example, the hallway where two different camera perspectives were shown, and the corridor with the curtains moving in the wind. I can't wait!

Is it me or does everything they've shown so far indicate a lack of belief in the game? What's the hook? It all feels so pedestrian and cynical. Constant teasers of (the same) gameplay with blatant nostalgiabait in the form of Leon while also trying to pander to multiple audiences (RE4 and RE2). Not saying the latter doesn't work (as it has in the past) but it all feels so B-tier.

The Porsche and watch ads were hilariously out of place. Fuck right off with that shit.
