Resident Evil Requiem Showcase - January 15th (2pm PT // 5pm ET // 10pm UK)

I loved RE7 but the setting had a lot to do with it. I'm not partial to RE in the city. May give it try after everything else coming out.

I'm calling it now that this will be the most polarizing game in the franchise.

It could easily be "I loved only the Grace parts" or "I only found the Leon segments fun". Or maybe they found a pitch perfect tempo and pacing to marry the two together. Then you also have the first person vs third person aspect of which you prefer and which suites the game best.

I have a sneaking suspicion for me personally the Grace shit will be a full blown RE7 retread of jump scares and slow lame shit with lots of easy fail states by not sneaking well enough etc. Leon will be the fun but also probably mindless slaughter house.

I'm getting it but I'm expecting a 6/10 experience…

Capcom itself has become an ip, no matter what shit they put out, everyone gobbles that up like chocolate.

These morons hyped people up for this "showcase" since October, just to show them some jumbled snippets with ads.

For example, Resident Evil 7 had an awesome build up till release and the marketing was peak. Now compare that to this shit. Crapcom is out of touch.

Unfortunately I will buy this slop too, because I did that with every re game since 98.

Can't believe they're going back to that big baby enemy again or whatever the fuck that lame looking enemy was.

To end it with that? Fkn lol.

RE10 you'll be fighting against gamers because holy fuck, the negativity and salt and just "let this game fail" energy in gamers across spectrums for any new release is insane.

RE9? Bad. 007? Bad. GTA6? hope it never comes out.

Relax. Go touch grass.

In all fairness if they get to 10 they deserve the backlash. It's run its course. Let it sit for a while.

This franchise is all over the place, what started with zombies and biohazard, which was cool, jumped to werewolves and Vampires, i guess the next step is aliens, and Leon goes to Mars. This will be the last RE for me.
Leon, Claire or Chris, one of them have to die, to make it interesting, the stories are not that good, and even though Capcom uses performance capture, the Leon actor is bad.

Watched the footage a couple times.

Spoiler bit about Leon

Leon has a Black Growth on his neck. So he is infected with whatever new virus they are introducing. Likely Elpis.

Nonspoiler bit

Grace shakes while aiming(cuz she scared) while Leon does not. It's also clear that Grace has limited ammo and limited stealth kill opportunities mean while Leon has an abundance of weapons, ammo, melee weapon you can repair, improvised weapons, stealth kills, melee kills, perfect dodge counter moves the works.

Requiem seems to be a gun that Leon gives Grace. Pretty sure it's the same model. Not sure though.

Though it's being marketed as a SP game I can't not see some kind of different game mode that completely focuses on the Leon style of combat.

This year Capcom is killing it...

I'm hype for Monster Hunter Stories.

IP's like that either become Rockstar, or they become so enamoured with the smell of their own farts that they end up like Ubisoft.

Wilds and Dragon's Dogma 2 were utter dogshit on release. This better not be the same.

Same. I recently played and finished both Stories 1&2 and they were sooooo good.

Stories 3 has become one of my most hype game this year.

I was expecting Dragon Quest Monsters Dark Prince to have a PS5 launch this year.

I like those type of monsters rpg games and the trailer really sold me on that.

Ink ribbons are back! I can't help myself from save scumming so this is what I need. As long as they don't flood you with them and render the mechanic useless.

I don't get the mentality of "Leon is too experienced for his gameplay to be horror oriented". The Regenerator section in RE4 pulled it off well enough. Why can't we have more of that?

They're saying it wouldn't make sense for him to tread timidly around an enemy type that he has encountered before, with a battalion of guns and a decade+ of bioweapon battle experience.

And this is a post RE6 Leon. They're using a lore reason to explain why Grace having horror gameplay makes more sense.

They are not wrong. You can't have Leon create scares and tension anymore - he's an action bad ass. Same with Chris.

However, I think Jill and Claire totally work still for horror focused gameplay.

I'd love to see Jill come back for RE10. Long overdue.

Definitely a 180 on this one for me. Having seen the Leon and Grace gameplay side by side now, I actually like that. It worked very well in Revelations 2 for me and they're finally showing stuff like her having to pick up blood with a risk involved for healing and so on. This kind of reminds me most of the more experimental and playful nature of Revelations 2. Also helps that Grace's gameplay looks more RE2R than that half-scripted shit in RE7.

Anyway, a far cry from Go Find Mom thankfully!

That was a sick scene tho, especially with John Wick soundtrack over it. Leon is always awesome.

Very much looking forward to playing Pragmata, had a good time with the demo. Game feels like a somewhat experimental title from the glorious PS2/Gamecube Capcom era. Props to Capcom for not cancelling the project after such a long development. Some other major publisher probably would've pulled the plug.

Capcom considers all of the OG characters badass all-stars at this point, so they probably wouldn't do it for Jill or Claire anymore either considering their feats both in-game and movies. At best there's a slight, slight chance there could be a Claire-centric game where she is caught off guard with no weapons, since she is still technically a reporter...I guess 🤷‍♂️

That's why they keep introducing new rookie cast members along with them to show the difference in skill.

  • Rev 1 had Parker and O'Brien
  • Rev 2 had Moira Burton
  • 6 had Piers and Sherry (Jake is an anomaly)
  • 7/8 had Ethan
  • Now 9 has Grace

Typical Capcom. Locking filters behind the deluxe edition and Grace's apocalypse skin behind a pre-order. So I guess I'm pre-ordering the deluxe edition then? Motherfuckers. And now we've got in-game product placement too? A Hamilton watch, a Porsche… who gives a shit what time it is when zombies are trying to chew your face off!

You've been playing these games for the story and made it until 2026? Why let this one be the last, you have the option to skip it altogether too

The product placement makes me laugh just like it did in Death Stranding. I don't know, Japanese games always have that "wink wink" undercurrent so I just find it silly in some endearing way. My boy with the luxury watch about to blast Sail Away by Enya in his Apple(tm) headphones while suplexing.

Well if you'd seen Finchers version of "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" you'd know that "Sail Away" can be a quite fucked up song. Context is everything.

Hyped at first sight, but dropped dramatically after this showcase.
Don't know why.

Anyway, pre-ordered last month already.

i'm fine with these two style gameplay, but if wwe can choose which one to play akin to 6, i think i will like more.
but oh well, i'm glad there is action packed leon again.

Two styles of gameplay is a neat idea, depends on how well it's executed.

The series is running out of steam, this entry screams of creative bankruptcy.

Stalker mechanics, Leon is cool but AGAIN?!

The only redeeming aspect is the return of zombies.

I still think it looks bad after the Showcase. Just seems like a low effort bonus mode of a main game, with over done sequences and safe run-of-the-mill attempts at horror that were outdated years ago (big slow monster chasing you in tight corridors for example). Resident Evil 7 started off like a fresh new take on things for them, then once the boat level hit and all of Village, it has been a follow through fart. I kinda liked Leon's watch at least (without knowing the price).

What is this BS?! He'd need at least half a magazine per head. These are RE zambies we're talking about. Telling the doc that he needs a second opinion is classic Leon humor. Also, why does the doc have a chainsaw? lol

Contextual executions are cool as well. Looks similar to what we are getting in Onimusha.

I'm not surprised GAF is shitting on this game. These days GAF is negative on most games that gets released.

I think it looks great. Always nice to see enemies react to shooting different areas of the body. A lot of games seem to overlook that kind of stuff. Still feels like I've seen the same area a billion times, but they must be sitting on a lot of details.
