Is the main war going forward PlayStation vs Steam? If so, will Sony still do PC ports?

The pc and Xbox audience is rapidly shrinking in Europe and probably worldwide. Those wandering souls will join Sony and Nintendo.
Therefore Sony will maintain and even increase their revenue without "pc ports"!

Yeah sure. What's your projection for Yotei hitting PC? I predict less than 1.5 years.

If it's reduced to Nintendo, Sony, PC (Steam), it feels more like three distinct groups serving three fairly distinct markets, with only some skirmishing in the border regions. A carving up of the empire and an uneasy peace more than a war.

I think Sony's attitude to PC ports may be flexible depending on the stage of the console cycle. When PS6 launches they may restrict the flow of their games to PC to 'encourage' PC gamers to buy a PS6, but eventually they will determine they have moved everyone who can be moved that way and then they'll return to selling their games to the remainder.

They will likely start porting to mobiles and mac, not the other way around.

The Xbox Series has been selling like ass yet the PS5 is still selling less than the PS4.
Don't know what this talk of the return of PS2 or Sony having the whole 150m "traditional" console market is.
As for the Steam stuff, if it is good for their bottom line Sony will continue to do PC ports because they want to show growth to investors.

Open platform vs closed.
Too vague.

And "open"… I don't think PC versus console is a real thing for the mainstream market. Because of the price differences and no easily accessed full-fiedged real living room experience. In the living room it'll likely be SteamOS on a future compact affordable device, laser focused on Steam with every other PC storefront being an afterthought, versus PlayStation.

The next Xbox could in theory open up the possibility for other PC storefronts to get a decent spot in the living room, but at this point we need to seriously consider that it might not even launch. And going by Xbox Ally it might not be good enough to ever end up in a versus PlayStation scenario. In just one hour of usage I had installed Playnite on my Ally because Xbox App wasn't good enough. Mainstream gamers is never going to do that. Needs to be preinstalled. Just power on and play. Steam Deck, but a console.

Sony Corporation is always ready to protect miserable people if necessary.

Do you consider pc gamers among them?

The world is your oyster with PC gaming. We could never be mad. Mods, Pathtracing, Stereoscopic 3D gaming(You should see God Of War in 3D), Sony finally bending the knee this generation. Now is the time for you to join us. Spend the extra cash. You deserve it man.

They ported nearly their entire catalogue of big hitters to PC. They're out of stuff to put on Steam.
The speed of releases was gonna end sometime.

Xbox is dead?
as a ps competitor 100%

This is actually a good question though

Will Sony support Steam as much now?

Having a 5080 pc i am THIS close to sell my ps5. I have not turned it on in a year

I really want to play Death stranding 2 - but i am just waiting for steam release

Reminder: Sony haven't announced anything (first party) for PC in almost a year and removed it from their recent financials.

Yup. Tbh if I was Sony I would pull the plug. I've stopped buying their PS releases since I know they come to PC. And PS6 seems rather pointless because of that, literally haven't played anything on PS5 Pro in 2025 and it's October now.
But if the porting ends I would buy their future console and PS releases again. The equation to be in control is really that easy.

Do you think you will buy I PS6 at launch? I sold my PS5 once I realized the direction they were going putting everything worthwhile on PC. The era of a Playstation console being a necessity is over.

Sony games cost too much to produce now so they need PC money. There is no war.

That isn't true at all. The reason why Playstation's PC ports are so profitable is because the are able to make the cost of development of the game and then some on the Playstation platforms alone. Therefore the couple of million need to spend to make port happen is easily recouped.

Lest we forget, ps2 sold over 50m at 150$ and below, even with inflation that's well below ASRP of Switch, let alone ps5.
Maybe Sony returns to low cost buyers in next generation with those extra SKUs but clearly they're happy at higher ASRP this gen just like with ps4.

Its also obvious that active userbase they have today is significantly larger than ps2 ever was, so the real question is how they grow that(if at all).

You say it's not true, and then proceed to explain why it is true.

Fantastic job.

A warrior is always in the search of a battlefield lol.

Imagine thinking about a war between closely curated hardware ecosystem with strong global brand and a freaking PC store.

Sony and Valve were never at war, and in some things like VR they are close allies. Outside of forums people don't cross-shop PS5 with PC boxes for their living room TVs. Market finally found sort of a mature equilibrium now that the rich guy is finally out.

If it's next battlefield you're looking for, it will probably be Valve-infused Linux vs Windows 11. And that will be a proper bloodbath.

It's Sony vs Nintendo.

Sony doesn't stand a chance in that war though. They don't want that smoke.

The reality is Sony Vs steam now. For high end gaming. If you want to try and create a wra that doesn't exist past any weirdo 30 plus year olds.

My kids and any one in the 20s I speak to have 0 interest in any of this weird warring.

It will still be Xbox vs PS with different ammunition.

Next xbox is coming, absolutely.
"Xbox"…

Going by Xbox Ally their next Xbox will be a living room PC. Those who buy it will mainly use if for Steam games. Unless Valve get ahead of them with a SteamOS device, at that point it'll just be a niche thing for diehard Xbox fans, and Gamepass subscribers in some cases, definitely not a mass market device.

It's Sony vs Nintendo.

If Nintendo opened its bulging wallet and developed a console with modern specs so they and Sony could go toe to toe with no exclusives - only first party stuff - and the same 3rd party content, it would make for an interesting scrap.

Valve did have a legal war with Vivendi and internet cafes who were generating game keys to install Counter-Strike without Valve getting any payment. That is a big reason for why they created steam and it could have killed the company. Valve are also in a long term cold war with Microsoft since Microsoft could use their control of windows to take away Valve's business in an anticompetitive way, which is why Valve has a Linux strategy. I don't think Valve has any reason to feel directly threatened by Sony or the other way around. Sony might get greedy and think they are losing sales from Steam or that the Valve takes too big of a cut from their sales on Steam but other major publishers have thought that then come back later because not putting your game in a major store is not great business.

Valve would be smart to make their device more midrange and target the price/performance of the PS6 using a cutdown AMD Magnus SOC.

Fantastic job.

So you just ignored the first sentence where I stat the games are already profitable on Playstation platform and therefore Playstation doesn't need to PC money.
Or put it another Playstation made only 3% of it revenue off platform for FY 24. That's not significant.

Sony has said that they release their games on PC with a strategic focus on driving people to the PS5 platform, that's why they don't tend to release day and date and its why they don't release everything.

Sure, that's why everyone and their dog has released a handheld or has plans to.

Nintendo aren't in competition. They are in their own lane doing their own thing and they always have been. Then, everyone copies themnso it's no surprise that Sony is trying to do a handheld now.

Just because Sony wants to now try and chase Nintendo doesn't make Nintendo a competitor. Nintendo is in a completely different league to anyone else.

I'm a weird case and don't paint myself as the norm. I don't have a gaming PC nor do I want one. I've always preferred consoles tbh. Regardless, about 6 or 7 months ago I upgraded my PS5 Slim to the Pro, and after being rather disappointed with the Switch 2 presentations, costs, game offerings, etc, I decided to buy a refurbished Steam Deck OLED off Steam.

Since getting the Deck, it's all I play. I haven't touched my Pro since beating Spider-Man 2 a handful of months ago other than to explore some bonus levels they added to Astrobot. I'd say roughly 95% of my gaming in the last 6 months have been on the Steam Deck. I'd honestly sell my Pro if it wasn't for GTA6. Wolverine and Soros might be cool, but lately, I've been enamored with indie darlings like Silksong, Expedition 33, Hades 2, Dave the Diver, Dispatch, No Rest For the Wicked among others. I'm way more interested in the next Steam Deck, or possible Valve designed Steam OS TV Box, than the next Sony or MS console. Also with every Steam seasonal sale fest my game library grows and the more locked in I am to the ecosystem.

Whats left Astros, Death Stranding 2 and Ghost of Yotei?
Except for Astro, which I don't think a lot of PC users are interested in, those are sequels. Pretty much a given they will release them after some time.
But the big news happens when a franchise makes it to a platform for the first time. Like with Gears and Halo on PS. After that people get used to it and the novelty wears off.
And like was said before. GT is the only thing left that they have. But PC has like 10 racing sims that aren't even available on console yet so I don't think they'll miss out much.

Open platform vs closed.
Microsoft are desperate to end closed platforms so they don't have to pay any platform fees. That way they kill of any competition and become the default OS available for gaming. Anyone siding with MS on their way to a potential monopoly needs their head testing. MS already dominate the business side of life, we certainly don't want them dominating the living room too.

They are competing with Steam the same way they are competing with Nintendo. They aren't "at war" with either, though.

Yeah I dunno how successful Gran Turismo would be on PC.
But id buy it. (lying)

I wonder how long itll take for InterGalactic: THP and Wolverine to be ported to PC.

And im actually looking forward to them cuz its something different, Im sure the next Last of Us, God of War, Spider-Man will be great, but these feel fresh.

Windows already is that.

Neither the studio that made the game nor the IP are owned by Sony.
How is that first party?
Stellar blade is a first party game. This doesn't mean it's a first party IP or studio. It gives Shift Up some leverage and they probably negotiated a release ages ago but it was still a first party game.

Sony hasn't released anything worth porting since Returnal in 2021.
Is that why people are port begging in GT7 threads?
