[UK] Digital ID to be compulsory for all UK adults under government plans

the cruel joke is that a high trust society doesn't really need this but when it does have it, it isn't used maliciously. while a lower trust society it is necessary because the need to vet others but then it is used maliciously.

Just have newly arrived migrants carry these if they don't have their own ID, if that's what they are for.

I think something like less than 20% of the existing population doesn't have a passport or driving licence. Pointless.

It's all on topic.

And in regards to illegal immigrants, how are they going to give people who threw documents into the sea any form of I.D..?

Ergo, they can't realistically.

So what?

Now we have a bunch of (still) undocumented people running around the streets, unable to work? How does that help? All that says to me is crime will go up as they'll be on the rob more. How is any of this stopping the boats? They'll still get accommodation etc.

None of this is feasible, at all.

It's pure bollocks 🤷‍♂️

You lot always vote wankers into office. Can't say that I feel sorry.

Interesting clarification from that bellend Nandy this morning

Earlier on Radio 5 Live, Nandy had said the ID would only be mandatory for those who want to "come to this country and work", adding that "we're not envisioning for a moment that this will be mandatory" for UK citizens.

She was on Question Time last night and the impression I got they have basically no idea how this would benefit us or how to implement it.

I mean they're hiding behind the you'll need it when you apply for a job bullshit but I've had the same job 27 years now and looking to retire soon anyway - so I don't need one effectively so I'm all good.

EDIT: This was Nandy saying this on BBC Breakfast seems they've sent her out to do do the comms based on the above.

Personally I don't give a shit about an ID but tell the fucking truth, its fuck all about applying for jobs same as the online verification shit was fuck all about keeping kids safe online either - this is the best bullshit excuses they can hide behind.

Next step will be what?
Your digiID with location on 100% of the time?

I'm really afraid for the next decade.

They've already clarified that she was wrong about this.

This is what happens when you give up your right to bear arms.

This is also the future that the liberal left wants for the United States.

The Netherlands has been using digital ID for over 20 years. Works fine so far, makes logging on across multiple sites that need to verify your identity a breeze. Booking something at the local municipality, checking something with my pension, changing my medical insurance, and even doing my yearly taxes, all done via an authentication check with your DigiD. Extremely efficient compared to the shit I was used to back in my home country.

I get that - but this is the UK it will be a total clusterfuck upon rollout and probably not work for at least 70% of the things it will supposedly cover, cost the tax payer about two billion pounds due to the stupid contracts that will be awarded to produce it and will probably roll out in about 2030.

Yeah it would just be a complete clusterfuck. We can't even build a train track.

lol it's never going to happen

not even the government officials themselves want it, its a pipe dream of Starmer and the WEF for greater control.

Starmer will long be out before this can be implimented and it will get scrapped.

Don't be too sure. He'll enforce his vastly superior majority of MPs to vote it through.

Not really, what a retarded comment.
It's sad that you can't see the correlation between people giving up their right to arm and defend themselves against a tyrannical government and the slow erosion of rights and slide into government tyranny and general lawlessness.

Never unserstimate the predictability of human stupidity.

I'm not getting into a debate about gun laws but I'd rather have it our way than the way it is in the States.

To say this wouldn't be happening if we all had the right to bear arms is frankly ridiculous.

Starmer must really want Farage to win the next election, he just keeps giving people a reason to vote Reform. I know he's already said he'll repeat the Online Safety Act and I assume he holds a similar position on this.

This is all part of the dark lord's plans. He wanted this 20 years ago.

Peter Hitchens has written extensively about Tony Blair's agenda and how Starmer will finish what he started. It's why he was so opposed to them winning the last election.

This will take longer to implement than Starmer's remaining term, at which point it'll be thrown out. Still, don't let that stop you enjoying the outrage farm while it lasts.

Great one less bellend.
Go fuck yourself, you spineless limey shit

And if I lived in your country the police (probably one in a burka) would be knocking on my door to arrest me because I said something by mean, which is why your country is going down the shitter right before your very eyes

Highly doubt this'll go anywhere. Starmer's hugely unpopular government will be long gone once its passed through the parliamentary process and the years of setup required.

Joke.

This is just stage 2 of trying to control everything on the internet. They will go the Chinese route. The Chinese can't even post anything on the Chinese net without it being tied and traced back to them.

In a few years you will need your digital ID to be badged to any email address you make, for everything you do, including using your isps internet.

Just like using children as the excuse for online censorship.

Now it's illegal immigrants lmao.

IN a few years it will be back to protecting children again.

someone's been at the paracetamol...

I worry for older people who can't use or don't own a mobile phone. Police kicking in the doors of care homes. "Where's your digital ID, Eidth?" "I'm 106!" "You'll need it if you want to apply for work!"

I'm just joking. Or am I. I don't know anymore.

Not to worry, if you refuse you just won't be able to get a job anymore.

Doesn't seem like it would be an issue for the 1000's working illegally. It will only punish the law abiding citizens.

This will never come into law.

If you don´t take the digital ID, you are a danger for Our Democracy. Get the ID or Get Out! It´s a duty to society. It´s irresponsible and selfish if you don´t take it. You´ll need it to get into certain venues and spaces. No jab, no job. Oh wait, no, that was the other thing.

Agreed. This government, that got in with lower votes numbers than John Major LOST with in 1997, is in its death throes barely a year into its term. Pathetic.
