I mean... I'm not trying to defend this studio (don't even know their name) but let's not ignore the fact that Black Box was an established and experienced developer long before they started working on Skate. This studio is clearly brand new, and it shows...Skate 1 came out in 2007. Skate 3 came out in 2010. So we got 3 complete, full, highly regarded, well loved games in less time than it took for EA to release this abomination.
Tell me something I don't know. We usually attribute these modern dev times to an obsession with visual fidelity but... there is none to speak of in this game. It's the ugliest Frostbite game I've ever seen, to the point where I was in disbelief when I learned it was the Frostbite engine. There is clearly something majorly wrong with the way videogames are made these days.
Anyway, I just completed Day 2's dailies and eh... I enjoy the actual skating gameplay quite a lot (especially that feeling when you Ace a challenge) but the progression system isn't really doing it for me. I doubt I'll be playing this religiously (especially considering the games coming out soon) but I can see myself hopping on every now and then, especially when they release new modes and features.
