Tom Henderson: "Xbox baffled by the extend of rumors. Sources tell nothing set in stone for xbox ports apart from Hifi Rush and Sea of Thieves"

It will be a half assed event with misleading language and everyone will be just as angry as they are already.

:messenger_grinning_smiling: That's probably pretty accurate.

Although, for the record, I'm not angry, and I don't think most people here are, either. I think most people here are enjoying it -- some out of schadenfreude, but many out of legitimate interest in what is happening. Something big is afoot. One of the major players in the "console war" is about to announce -- or rather, hint at -- a significant shift that could change the shape of the gaming for years to come.

At least that's how it feels to me. I'm pumped. Bring on the half-assed business event with misleading language!

The announcement: “We’re not leaving the console space, Microsoft studios exclusives on console and PC will continue, Bethesda games will move to timed exclusive, smaller budget games and live services will come to other platforms, Activision Blizzard games will continue being platform agnostic.”

The Fanboys: “The $3 Trillion company is doomed and going completely 3rd party. Worse than Sega.”

I expect Microsoft to announce new gamepass pricing, including a new tier of membership.

I also expect lots of talk about playing your games anywhere with Sea of Thieves and Hi-Fi Rush confirmed for other platforms.

I don’t think they mention Starfield at all even though it’s being ported to PlayStation this Christmas season.

It will be a half assed event with misleading language and everyone will be just as angry as they are already.

I'm also expecting a lot of PR fluff.
Something like "We have been stating for years that for us it's about gaming everywhere reaching as many people as possible and in this sense we have decided going forward to bring more games than before on other platforms starting with HiFi Rush and bla bla bla".

They will avoid mentioning the full scope of the transition so that people can adapt to the new reality.
The most interesting stuff at this point is if they announce changes to Gamepass, like day one releases only available on a more expensive tier going forward.

Damage is done. Who cares if it’s not set in stone if two games are officially coming, and the others are being discussed?

Phil waiting a week to reply. I checked Gamestops’s trade in the day the shit was hitting the fan, and as of this morning the trade in value on a Series X fell further to under $300. People are dumping their systems now.

It’s like amateur hour at Microsoft.

Unfortunately, this is one of those times where Tom Henderson's reporting is wrong. Doesn't happen often though. Sounds like he's being spun by his sources.

Yeah, 100%. If SOT and Hi-FI rush were the only ones, Xbox would have certainly spoken or leaked out info saying that. SOT and Hi-Fi-Rush are the beginning of Microsoft testing the viability of going multi-platform

The problem is they cannot say "Only Hi-Fi Rush and SOT are going" because in the future when another game goes third-party, then everyone will be mad and stating that MS lied because something else is going on PS or Switch.

They have been saying ever since the Bethesda acquisition that games going to other consoles would be case-by-case. Here it seems like one of those "cases" have happened and a bunch of people lost their shit and started to say a bunch of other stuff, more rumors spread, and idiot "influencers" acting like giant man babies.

As we saw in the Activision - Blizzard acquisition FTC trial leaks, which you seem to be glossing over here, the “per game basis” was disingenuous BS…

Dang it. The XSS has lost $25. I knew I should have gone ahead and taken it over there, you just knew PS players would figure they didn't need it and the price would drop. Complete laziness on my part, it's just been sitting in a cabinet and I never did the factory reset or anything. Everybody being reactionary idiots trying to get the most before even hearing the news, but in my defense I was just planning on dumping the stuff I don't use in trade for one of those overpriced MB they offer.

According to Tom Henderson sources inside Xbox, the only ports coming to PS5/NS is Sea of Thieves and Hi-Fi. Xbox was very surprised by the scale the rumors got.

Chill everyone. It will be the new Internet Explorer. It won't be available in the EU, because of regulations, but in the US... every windows user must be required to use that. You have to provide a passport number, so you can't lie yourself out of it.

It's dumbass journalists, influencers and fanboys jumping to conclusions with no proof. Happens way too often nowadays. About everything, not just games.

I hope the engagement was worth torching whatever credibility they had left.

What's baffling? Put your game of the year contenders Starfield, Forza and Palworld on PS5. Power games meet power system. Done.

Fuck, swear, if Don was in charge we wouldn't have to deal with this bullshit. The man was a straight up fool, but my gawd, he knew a thing or two about gaming. This Phil fool doesn't know his ass from the "x" button.

Sounds like the dream is dead again.

One day maybe probably Xbox will cease making consoles potentially.
Rumors have been wild but dropping consoles before technology ready for all cloud not in cards. They have own ecosystem ready to go when they feel comfortable moving to cloud in who knows how many years or decade. Dropping console altogether would be just silly.

The roller coaster of the last week still hilarious though. Im convinced it’s the 10 year COD plan causing a lot of this. If they could point to couple years of exclusive COD I bet they’d have tried it the traditional way longer. Beat case for PS5 owners is more options soon. Worse case is status quo. Nothing to lose while watching the train wreck.

It's normal for companies not to comment on rumor. I'm not making any proclamations, just correcting the idea that if he didn't squash it days ago, that makes the rumors true.

Side note: if the unsubstantiated rumors turn out to be false, many will be quick to claim damage control on MS's part. Ironicall,y their confirmation bias will blind them to the fact that it is themselves who is doing the damage control, in defense of the many assetertions they themselves have made.

Yeah they do tend to do that. They have this theory that if there’s drama don’t respond because some other drama will come along to outrage people. The problem for MS is…. This is gaming and rumours stuck until you come out and say otherwise. They are nuts if they think any of this will blow over until they come out and say something…. And if they say the wrong things next week. They can kiss most of their Xbox audience goodbye.

Better yet. Peter Moore or jay allard. They have put some real idiots in charge since then.

My misuse of the word "is" instead of "are" is driving me mad. Now, it's set in stone in your reply 😤

The next Xbox and PS6 will be the last consoles from MS and Sony. Nintendo will always make handhelds for kids.

Yeah omg.. Ill cry everyday in the bathroom for loosing all these AAA top of the art critcal acclaimed games that MS has been making but wont bring to playstation.. god knows how ill be able to survive without such vast quantity and quality games, why oh god why ?

Gtfo.. the only weerdos here are you people already asking how to build a pc and whatnot based on rumors your insiders started and reacted to.

Me ? Xbox is a dying brand, go multiplat dont go.. dont care.. dosent affect sony or nintendo anymore. The only thing ill miss is at most Killer Instinct ... the rest ? And the new ? Dont care at all with xbox quality control.

But Phil spencer is a legend... letting his fanbase melting down and breaking before his eyes and playing Diablo 4 like he dont give a shit.. and in the end saying "nah ... next week ill tell you, byeee" lol

Just because Microsoft is failing miserably, doesn't mean Nintendo and Sony are going to follow suit. They're actually decent at selling hardware.

The next consoles aren't due until 2026-2027. By the time their life cycle is over, likely 2034 or so, I doubt Sony will even be producing optical drives anymore. And if they were it'd be only for extreme high-end uses such as for people who use ODA.

Yea because hipsters are paying out the ass for collector's edition LPs.

99% of people aren't buying LPs now.

You missed the point. There is still enough of a market for companies to manufacture and sell turntables. And no, that's not for high priced collectors editions. These LPs are mass produced.

But let's say you are somehow correct and media drives just up and disappear, how does that prevent consoles from being made?

Then they'd be digital only and all the people here who say they'll quit gaming if it goes digital only like Steam will need to find a new hobby.

Was just in a WalMart 2 days ago and they still have space on shelves selling 2 different turntables and a rack of LPs

Only reason I know this is my wife is the one who pointed it out and even she said "Who is buying records these days?"

Seems someone is

I remember people saying the exact same thing about Netflix and streaming in general.
I think certain genres of games are ok using the cloud but I don't ever see it being the only option unless they figure out the latency I have seen for people living in rural areas even on "broadband"

Sony is investing in cloud. I think their end goal is the Samsung/Xbox thing. Buy a Bravia TV and play PlayStation on it. No need for an additional box connected to it.

That doesn’t mean there won’t be a market for gamers who want to game locally. The business world has shown us time and time again that they will sell whatever the customers want. Just like they have with the aforementioned turntables. “No need” for it, as you say, and yet there they are.

My sister is one of these hipsters. The lack of any meaningful low frequency sound really turns me off. This vinyl movement is somehow driven by nostalgia from people that have never used vinyl growing up. The generations that actually have experience with vinyl growing up, seem to be happy with leaving the technology in the past.

Don't forget how much the videogames media is against Xbox! Instead of doing there damn job of quality control they were fanning the flames! Chaos drives viewers that was the rule of thumb this week!

“Media”

I don’t think they can be called that even but yes they make money from clicks/views so it makes sense.
