Not talking about design. I actually like the OG design if you read my other post. I was hoping that it would have a different form factor for a slim.

The reason Sony is arragont is because they stealth increased the price of the digital ps5 to $450 after the OG digital runs out of stock. Paying $80 for a Blu Ray is also absurd and the stand for the console is $30. They are putting themselves back into the PS3 era and that is not good for them to go.
It includes more efficient chips and storage...

Get ready for $599 PS5 Pro then in Holiday 2024.

And what else went up exactly ? The Series X is still $499 and is actually $482 right now on Amazon for whatever weird reason. Anything else above $500 for the Series X are all bundles.
Series X and PS5 have seen price increases practically everywhere in the world apart from the US.

The XSX price went from 499€ to 549€, it is just in the US that it didn't change. In Europe the PS5 "slim" classic and digital both are at the same price than the "fat" ones.

And why did they increases the prices in Europe? What was the reason? Someone remind if me if the same case was for PS4/X1.

I do not pay attention to Europe because it doesn't affect me. I live in the USA so everything for me goes of the US market. So if you ask me, it wasn't necessary for Sony to increase the price here when the competion hasn't. Thankfully, I got 2 PS5s at launch at a normal $499 price. One for me and one I gave to my nephew.

Just seems like pure greed because they are #1 in the market. The fact that the prices have been increased for both in Europe is irrelevant and doesn't justify this whatsoever for the USA. Two completely different markets.

Europe sucks for gaming in general, everything always comes late and is also more pricey.

The so called "inflation". :/

But it was quite comical because at first Sony did it for the PS5 standard and digital 499 to 549 and 399 to 449, huge shitstorm, Phil Spencer saying :

"I can definitely say we have no plans today to raise the price of our consoles," he said. "We think in a time when our customers are more economically challenged and uncertain than ever, we don't think it's the right move for us at this point to be raising price on our consoles."

It was in September 2022. In June 2023, less than a year later, Xbox Series X price rose, from 499 to 549. Just like the PS5. The XSS price didn't move though.

Still baffles me, Sony move wasn't nice but it was understandable, and they are popular so... Rising the price won't change anything to their popularity in Europe (and I can confirm it didn't), but in Europe the Xbox doesn't sell, it never did except the 360, and they're like "mmmh we don't sell in Europe, what to do... Oh I've an idea, let's rise the price".

“But the United States” keyword.

US has been lucky that not as much has gone up but PS5 and Xbox has had price increases worldwide minus the US.

Looking at these more closely now. Focusing on the digital one, the basic design scales well to this smaller interpretation. Both flat and slim look great.

The fat disc one doesn't have the symmetry of the digi but it looks great, too. But this slim is actually smaller than I thought and that drive stayed the same size. They comparatively drastic way it has to blend back into the side of the thing makes it look more like a melted brick than a swoopy hump.

I think they may have been better off making it look more like an external attachment than an integrated unit. If you remember, a Genesis 2 with the smaller sega cd to match was pleasing. It looked like two discreet things that nonetheless belong together. Or even complete each other.

I think PS5 looks great and so does the smaller digital, but that drive doesn't fit inside the slim. A piggyback design could have been better looking.
