Is cross save working well? Would like to continue my PC run on ps5. Stopped playing for a while to try Starfield, but this is clearly the superior game. Do prefer playing on a console as opposed to pc nowadays, though.

Will continue Starfield when this is finished. Good times for rpg fans.

Cross save works. Trophy’s don’t transfer though.

Really glad I paused on the Steamdeck after a few hours and decided to wait and start again on the PS5 release, it's a great port and the default performance mode just looks and feels great, turned performance mode off just to see the difference (according to the tooltip, non-performance mode is locked to FSR from 1440p), and honestly, the extra sharpness isn't worth the 30fps cap.

Only thing I did notice was when turning characters quickly in the character designer, in performance mode the FSR had a real tough time with the hair - would become a complete pixelated mess for a good few frames, so the performance mode base resolution must be quite a bit lower than 1440p, my guess is somewhere around the 900p mark, but you can't really tell at all in the regular isometric view, plus it feels like they crank it up for the cutscenes and the interface itself is native 4k. Looks fantastic.

Game is incredible, I've been loving Starfield - very different game too, but the production values are just on another level in BG3.

Playing on PS5, absolutely loving it so far, but I'm having one issue. In the interface options there's an option for "north-facing minimap". And it doesn't work for me, the minimap rotates regardless. Anyone else experiencing this or is it just me?

After 5 hours, I can say the game is really awesome. It's everything I wanted from a DnD game since when I was a teenager and a huge paper & pen DnD fan.

The PS5 version is pretty good. The loading screens are very long by PS5 standards and I don't really understand why there's loading when entering rooms. Also, the save process is unusually long.

The performance mode has pretty good performance and if there are any drops, they are mostly cleaned up by VRR. There were a couple of situations where I felt there were obvious drops, but those were cut scenes. The reconstruction is quite rough when moving the camera quickly. The shimmering is obvious, particularly on high contrast parts of the screen. This is either a low base resolution, or they are using FSR1. But I think 60 FPS mode is much better than the 30 FPS one, so I'll go with this.

Evolved1

make sure the pudding isn't too soggy but that just ruins everything
I've found a fix for HDR, in the PS5 HDR system calibration menu do not keep the black level at 0 but at a slightly higher value.
I've tried with a few clicks up and it works.
Thankfully this actually works. Thank you.

Still pretty annoying. But at least I can play the game.

Now the sound dropping out every few mins... lol

I am enjoying it. But there seems to be an audio bug. Once i get to a certain point, the audio is prone to giving out. Hopefully this is only a problem for this area.

Edit: It seems this is a common bug for the ps5. Turning off 3d audio from the ps5 ui solves it.

Are you using headphones? I turned mine off and then back on, fixed the issue.

I think the performance mode looks better than the quality mode TBH , it’s just sharper I think the 1440p native output isn’t as sharp as whatever upscaler they use in the perf mode. Maybe Nvidia trickery.

Definitely not. It shimmers a lot when you pan the camera. They can't use DLSS anyway on PS5.

Yep, it's pretty good. Loading times are a bit crap, but it looks good and runs nicely. Crazy to think that I'm finally playing another BG 20 years later.
Now where the hell are Minsc and Boo.

It’s as good as I could have hoped tbh. I haven’t noticed any bugs or performance issues yet, but I’m only a few hours into it. Amazing game though - I can’t see me playing anything else for a while.

Well I finally beat it. What a monster.

The first half of the game, acts 1 and 2, is game of the year level incredible even in an insane year like this. But the 2nd half, act 3, really brings it all crashing down to earth.

I was kind of dismissive of all the criticism of act 3, because of how much it parralelled criticism of Arx in Larian's last game, Divinity Original Sin 2. Arx is the big city you go to at the end of DOS2 and people are right to say it's the weakest part of that game. It feels uneven and unpolished compared to the rest of the game - or it did, the enhanced edition that came out later added cool battles with giant monsters and filled in parts with fixed/added quests. But I was never really that bothered by Arx even before the enhanced edition. I was sure critics were right that act 3 of BG3 would be worse than the previous acts but I didn't temper my expectations anywhere near enough.

Act 3 of BG3 isn't lacking content, it's enormous. But it looks and runs like ass and has a ton more glitches and bugs than the early parts of the game. Running on high settings act 1 and act 2 looked and played amazing, except for minor bugs and 2 large battles in act 2 that had bad performance. But in act 3 the game will chug worse than it did in those battles if I simply stand in the main tavern in the city and rotate the camera a bit, unless I turn the settings all the way down low so characters look hilariously awful, and even then there's still some jank.

And the bugs man. I went inside a building that had a security camera which showed footage of prisoners trapped in another facility. But I had already freed those prisoners and the facility had been blown up! Then I saved a guy in this new building and as he was following me around, he stopped me for trespassing and I had to pass an ability check. The prisoner I was rescuing stopped me for trespassing in the prison I was freeing him from. I wasn't able to dig up chests anymore, even though I always carry a shovel since act 1. Eventually I found another shovel and the inventory now says I have a stack of 2 shovels. So I had the shovel all this time? Why couldn't I dig? My wizard has magic gloves that let him cast ranged spells without penalty in melee. But I couldn't find the passive toggle for them anywhere in a battle in the sewers in act 3. I kept checking all the different menus for 5 minutes and eventually gave up. Then after the battle I unequipped and reequipped the gloves and the toggle reappeared.

That wizard also has a magic staff with a glowy bit at the end. But the glowy bit doesn't stay on the staff - it'll just float around in the air. So during cutscenes while characters are talking there's this weird glowy light just floating around behind them. It's a bitchin' staff though so I'm not gonna unequip it. There's a haunted house quest I tried a few times before looking it up online to see if it's just bugged and yep you bet your ass it's bugged. Characters that are supposed to talk to me just aren't talking so I can go back an hour and load the game to try again or just give up on that quest. I'll take give up thanks.

I could go on but you get the idea. I was kind of amazed by how good the early parts of the game were, and then despite being aware of some grumbling, equally amazed that the later parts could be so rough. I guess my love of Larian's other titles like divinity and the orgasmic chorus of praise this game gets with its perfect metacritic score kind of put some blinkers on me, but nothing closes your mind to criticism of BG3 more than playing its wonderful first half. I was on such a magical adventure that I just didn't want to believe they would go full bethesda by the end. That's not a comment on starfield which I haven't played but it is a comment on bethesda's other games lol.

So console players beware. I don't want to spoil your fun but I would be shocked if act 3 doesn't have major problems on console and the more prepared you are for them the less painful they'll be... so try to expect the worst and you'll be pleasantly surprised. I was gonna play the game again immediately after beating it with different classes and characters and making different choices, but after seeing act 3 I just want to be done.

So is this game of the year? Yeah...in 2026. When they release the enhanced edition so it's not so buggy and chuggy in act 3, this will be game of the year that year. I might even play it again after they do that. But right now the thing ruining the new Baldur's Gate game is Baldur's Gate.

I am using the 3D headphones from SONY and the game always loses the connection after 15 minutes or something. Then I have to turn it off and on again. Really annoying.

I don’t think there are many games that make me think about how I want to respond in conversations as much as this one. Added to that the dice rolls that add even more spice to the proceedings. I really like how traits can add or subtract from the dice roll as well.

All the companions are awesome too. I now have four, so making the choice to leave a particular one at camp has been difficult.

Anyone elses' sorting tool borked now when at vendors? Works all good in my inventory/char screen, but when at a vendor it sorts all over the show and the sorting tabs aren't the same (no rarity tabs, equipment only shows my torches..) weird af.

Sure it wasn't doing this yesterday but been no updates.

Were those little shits on Ravager Beach in the beginning supposed to be so hard?! Idk if im just THAT bad to start or what, but had to drop the difficulty when the "arrowshot and move" strategy kept failing

So I made my way to Grymforge perhaps out of order, thinking I'd just go back and do the other quests before I made it down there...well, when I take the boat back and make it to the cave shore, the ambush there is just insanely difficult. My party's all at lvl4 and these lvl7 dudes are pushing my shit in...any tips? I don't suppose there's a way to bypass it? Or get to at least lvl5 before taking it on? I think I've finished most every fight in Grymforge...

Am I the only one constantly fiddling with the camera because items and stuff is obscured by objects and level geometry? It kind of breaks of the flow of the game. Playing with controller on PC and zooming in so it feels more like 3rd person RPG makes things better but I've encountered occasional (UI) bugs and some interface is simply not manageable with a controller because the cursor was always skipping an inventory row I wanted to select an item in.

WASD Mod
Native Camera Tweaks

Essential to my playthrough now. It should just be the standard. You can have it the way it currently is, and then also have full WASD/3D Camera control with m+kb. It's so much better.

Anyone can link the best tips video? Even for just basic things what to sell, best way to use characters, etc? There are so many on youtube, most 30-90 min long.

Finished this today, with 156 hours on the clock. 67 hours in Act 3.
This goes to my top 5 of all time, instant classic, best game since Elder Ring for me.

Probably will do second playtrough during winter.
Once i finish BG3 i'm gonna start Pathfinder WotR in turn based mode. I've heard good things about it.

Just rescued a Druid in Act 1 and readying the team for some goblin culling. I’m not sure if I should be level 4 at this point, but I’ll soon find out.

did anyone try the third person view mod? absoute fucking game changer
If you mean native camera tweaks mod, I have been evangelizing, yeah, with plenty of screenshots in the thread
Couldn't play without it, not only for the free camera, but how it fixes controlle deadzone as well
I pity people playing without it

nuke the bastards

low key that area is one of the best designed i the game. So many layers
I managed to kill one of the leaders and several goblins, but the second leader kicked my arse so bad it wasn’t even funny.

Prey tell, what is this nuke you speak of?

Holy shit, this game is truly

revenge of the sith episode 3 GIF by Star Wars

Snuck in to the goblin camp entrance (party is my Dwarf Rogue, Shadowheart, Wyll, and Lae’zel) and headed to the right and up a ladder to Sneak Attack one-shot the goblin up there. The other 6 goblins are alerted and proceed to charge while all 4 of my characters proceed to Sneak Attack, Fire Bolt, Eldritch Blast, and basic Range attack from above.

The fight ends with not a single point of damage done to my party, and the only resource was Lae’zel having to cast Shield once (as she went the Eldritch Knight route, I love a Fighter who can cast Shield, makes them so annoying to the enemy) since two of the wolf like creature were getting close to our position so she hoped down to keep them occupied.

About 6 hours in on the ps5 version and I kind of hate this game. I cant remember the last time I played something so constantly unintuitive, tedious and frustrating.

Positioning and advantages are very important in combat and actually make the game harder at the beginning IMO since you have way less options to influence those. You get a pretty big power spike around level 5.

The controller interface is slow and clunky compared to mouse and keyboard. I couldn’t get along with it anyway, all those item wheels and layers of menus. Maybe they’ll patch in mouse and keyboard support for the console version, if they haven’t already - it plays quite different that way.

Yo, the goblin camp area is nuts:

Had the Priestess Gut lead us to her room, was able to kill her in one round before she alerted anyone. Good thing, afterwards found a halfling merchant who had some nice superior weapons and armor for my party.

Also, randomly found a path into the underdark. I assumed this was the right way, but after a while of no longer seeing any goblins, realized I was headed into totally unrelated business and made my way back.

Kept poking around, freed a dude named Liam, and then found where they were keeping Halsin. Seemed like it was impossible to free him without starting the aggro so took out the room.

I assumed I’d have to send him back to camp, but no, he just joins as a 5th party member (temporarily, I assume), meaning we‘re about to raise hell in the whole camp with a goddamn BEAR at our side.

This is exactly where I am. I have one leader left to kill and it’s been a fun time. I haven’t found the Underdark, but it sounds intriguing. There are so many secrets and areas to find without any signposting - a bit like Elden Ring in that respect. I found some creepy undead dude who has now taken up residence at my camp.

Why does the auto select camp supplies option frequently waste resources? I have numerous simple ways to add up 40 supplies for a long rest, including packs that are worth exactly 40, but it often wants to take 46-50.

Don't let it bother you. It's a non issue, you couldn't possibly run low on camp supplies unless you tried really really hard to
