Genuinely cant believe the first few games launching that are actually next gen and they are 1080p 30FPS and 720P 60 FPS...we got fed bullshit this generation and fell for it hook line and sinker...absolutely no difference than any other generation.

I wish this was out on PC tomorrow, it absolutely sucks that its exclusive

I mean iq on consoles isnt ideal but we are living in a world where resolution isn't as important as it used to. This is true on all platforms including pc.

Will you stop all your console gaming now?

I watched the video and it doesn't at all....what are you watching.
Weirdly though, I discovered something very strange about this mode - the frame-rate dips while running through the world, but the moment you start combat, the frame-rate rockets up to a near-perfect 60fps. The second Clive puts away his sword following combat, we're back to poor performance.
 
Ok... not gonna comment too much on what's going on in this thread... but I have a sincere question.

I am assuming most that are talking about the performance mode alternating between 720p-1080p before upscaling also have a PS5.

I am also assuming we all played the demo.... yes, there is actually a demo. I know only ONE poster that talked ad nauseam on the performance mode, about it having an inconsistent framerate... Now how many of you knew that it also had a native internal resolution of 720p before this DF video? How many people said it?

I've been critical of the games visuals in other threads, but honestly for the most part the IQ and resolution have been pretty solid from what I experienced in that demo.

I know 720p doesn't sound good, but you won't even notice when you play.

Fucking pathetic. Devs have no clue how to optimize.

In the meantime other games are more CPU intensive and have way more things going on and can manage a near 4k60 experience by default.

I wouldn't care if it was 320x240 as long as the final image is nice. FSR1 is the odd choice here, but I believe that was a decision made so they could focus on getting it as bug free as possible, which in the end it seems like they did. Future patches can tweak and improve performance mode, I hope.

I did say it looked like 720p in combat. Disgusting IQ in performance mode but if you want Switch like resolution and I guess framerate consistently on your 65inch OLED go right ahead.

Some of the later stuff does look great and if you can stomach 30fps seems like the demo undersold how good it can look.
I've just played 7 hours straight on a 65 OLED in performance, perfectly amazing right the way through.....nothing 'appeared' 720p to me.

Games a fucking marvel. I need to put it down cause it's 7.30am and I gotta work at midday lol, 2 hours sleep ahead! XD

Do you have a timestamp for mid 30s? I noticed 50s but not 30s. I skipped straight to the performance part though, I might've missed it if it isn't in that part.

Nobody would know these figures without a DF video and few would care.
Ryse looked great in 900p. I’m sure this looks fine in 720p.

There is always the PC version for those who want higher fidelity and performance.

Or chill for a bit, wait for patches and play some Zelda TOTK, the game won’t go anywhere.
Ive played Zelda for over 100 hours this past month and you can definitely notice 720p. It is one of the if not the worst IQ ive ever seen in a video game.

1080p-1440p using FSR1 to 4k at a near rock solid 30fps for quality mode.

Performance mode is significantly rougher, 720p-1080p with drops to 30fps. Combat is usually 60fps but resolution is 720p in that mode, but the larger Eikon fights still drop to the 30s.

I'm certainly going to play this in quality.
I refuse to believe this, 720? Yeah I'm definitely waiting for PC in this case.

I did on June 13th.
It's an old build so maybe it will improve but combat drops the resolution and it seriously looks like 720p or something. It's good that it sticks closer to 60fps in combat but it can still tank even at such a low resolution.

I think I'll wait for the PC version as some of the assets are seriously beautiful looking.

recommends quality mode because its the most stable at hitting its target of 30fps. or 40 on 120hz displays. le sigh. good grief lows of 720p in performance mode. yet another reason to build that PC earlier than thought

In the demo I didn’t experience any jarring drops in performance mode and it looked great.

As usual in this generation.. time to wait for a more stable and better perfomance game in 6 to 12 months and play the complete version cheaper

If it dosent come ? Wait to play it on the ps5 pro

I mean it's obviously very low resolution like it or not.

I said before the pixel counts that it looked 720p just by eyeballing the demo.

I think a lot of people comment on these threads without having a clue what they are looking at and that's fine but it means people are arguing past each other and not with each other. You maybe happy with how it looks but it's objectively very poor IQ.

Matrix dropped to 1080p at times (though it was mostly 1440p), but its still more next gen than anything on the market.

What you fell for was PR. PR for cross gen games to be exact. This was always going to happen to next gen only games like starfield and FF16.

Now the fact that they cant get a decent 60 fps mode working is another story, and is likely tied to the hardware in the PS5 and XSX. The AMD CPUs in these machines are only 3.5 Ghz and even their PC counterparts with 4x more cache struggle in games compared to intel CPUs which were lambasted for poor thermals, but are now outperforming AMD Zen 2 CPUs thanks to their higher clocks. I think we have to stop pretending these consoles have good CPUs because the latest games prove they still have a CPU bottleneck.

Lastly, games like Redfall and Star Wars are proof that PCs wont fix anything. i legit had to stop playing star wars on PC because i got tired of the damn stuttering in koboh. Before that i had it locked to 40 fps and it still didnt help much. It sucks but you are really underestimating how widespread and multi-layered this issue is.

This is quite an embarrassing situation, we are talking about an action game with poor performance, an action game that we are supposed to run at 30fps...

They should have just gone with DMC engine and call it a day.

Also saw the ACG review and yeah.. this game feels off and could pass as something completely different from a Final Fantasy game.

I would contend rather that its just showing some poor programing skills vs the hardware being poor based on other games we have seen. Same goes for 480p games on S.

It is a bit of both. Instead of 720P may be it should be 900p with some compromise elsewhere I think like textures. But no amount of programming skills would get boss battles at 1080P 60fps on PS5. We will see how the PC handles it next year but this engine seems taxing on the hardware.

Personnaly I am glad.

I strongly feared that devs would forgo graphical advancements in the pursuit of high resolutions, but it seems that they still want to push the visual envelope even if it means lower res.

4K is and always will be a waste of resource. If you want it, go PC

In the traversal in performance mode, the game is seen dropping to low 40s and high 30s. VRR ain't doing shit there. Needs to be at least 48hz for it.

DF tested Spiderman on PC with a 4090 last year and found that it was topping out at 65 fps with RT, native 4k and all bells and whistles with a zen 2 3600 CPU which is roughly on par with the PS5.

They then switched out the CPU with a top of the line 13900k and the framerate shot up to 129 fps.

Is Insominac bad at coding? Is Nixxes? Or is it the hardware? lol

I am all for criticizing lazy devs but I agree no amount of programming skills will overcome a hardware deficit. If that was true, ND wouldve been able to run uncharted 4 at 1080p 60 fps like they had originally claimed and demonstrated. They are literally the best in the business and they couldnt overcome it.

I say lets wait for these games to come out on PC. Gotham Knights, Hogwarts, Star Wars and Redfall have some really poor CPU utilization that explain their poor performance on consoles. we might see the same thing for Starfield and FF16.

Final Fantasy 16 is a beautifully crafted, visually stunning series entry that arrives with gamers in a polished, bug-free state.

We've all witness a miracle fam. Can't remember the last time we got one of these.

For a GOTY contest, this should matter more than it currently does.

Tears of the Kingdom wasn't that long ago. That game is ridiculously polished and bug-free.

At or above 60 FPS at all times would probably need way more dynamic scaling, probably to Jedi Survivor levels and below.

A nice 40hz mode would be better keeping the res as high as possible.

I completed horizon dlc few days ago, i can't believe how good it looks (and runs) compare to any other AAA games on consoles.

Guerilla i in a league of its own since PS4. Even naughty dog is behind. Only insomniac is very close.

As for FFXVI, quality is not playable to me so performance is the way to go even with low res.

I play on an epson eh tw 9400 ... i dont really have the money to upgrade but damn. With performance like that i kinda need a vrr capable projector :/
