How About That Weather?

Yeah, shit's got me nervous, not gonna lie. It's 2 am here in Georgia, raining, winds like a hurricane, and the high this afternoon is supposed to be 19, which means all that rain will be frozen later.

What concerns me, though, is a power outage. In this town where I live, it happens quite a bit when we get weather like this. People go apeshit, using waaaay too much electricity. We're just not equipped for that down here. And they obviously don't drip their faucets 'cause we also lose water often during extreme cold weather.
How are you holding up man?

Coldest it’s been here in 26 years. -1F here just about an hour ago with stupid fast winds. First time I’ve had to turn the heat on in a while. Roads would support a good NHL game, so naturally work is closed.

It's weird. I have cold to the whole house, hot to the two bathrooms, but no hot to the kitchen or the utility sink.

There's a split somewhere, but I have no idea where.
That's actually good for you. If the entire line was frozen that would be bad.

Here's some tips from he Red cross on thawing. I'd keep those taps open with the hope that the temp will melt the frozen parts. Keep an eye out for any bursting, as that will be very very bad.

It's still 30 F here. Sun is out. It was snowing earlier. The temp is supposed to drop in the next couple hours to single digits but it hasn't yet.
If you need anything, don't hesitate to reach out brother.

I just came to say 'arctic blast from serbia' made me laugh. It's 10c and raining as usual here in The Netherlands

Ha, my hometown back in Iowa. :) I feel for the guy as I know it gets pretty darn cold there.
I could feel my contact lenses would feel frozen the minute I walked out thanks to the cold and wind during winter times.
I'm sure it's probably edited (and some out of context), but it's a good laugh... :)
It is across multiple broadcast throughout the day.

Yeah - I feel for the correspondents who covers extreme weathers outside. While they do have their trucks/vans waiting near by - and the equipment folks too. Tough gig, really is.
(Those shots, while it seems like just simple straight-on camera shots, but they also have several boxes of lighting equipments, heavy tripods etc for setup - and each time they are off air, they'll have to protect it well from wind, moisture, etc)

But at the same time, they do get their fix of air-time - and believe me, they really "want" that air-time for their exposure. :)
It seems like this video is also trending, so I am pretty sure that guy is pretty happy one way or another!

Hand in your Australian membership card immediately.

I can’t wait to get out of this cold, drizzly British shit, and back into some steamy tropical Queensland shit.
I hate the steam the worst! Muggy weather can fuck right off! Ive never been a hot weather person. Always loved being indoors on a cold winters day, rugged up either watching a film, reading or playing games.

Whelp, I got to DIA earlier this afternoon and my flight got cancelled as I was literally walking in the terminal to get in line to check in. Booooo!

Ah well. Managed to get back in time to make an emergency trip to Costco and got loaded up on a whole bunch of fun foods and I'll reschedule to go visit family when all this craziness calms down :)

The wind is crazy out here in Montreal and we are expecting our first big snowstorm.
Also concerns for a lot of power outages like GeekyDad mentioned.

Tonight has been erratically windy. I was on my balcony reading the news on my iPad, and suddenly the wind kicked up so strongly one of my deck chairs rose up off the balcony - I had to grab it to prevent it from flying off.

This kind of wind isn't unheard of here on the stormy Atlantic, but it's usually confined to the storm season of late summer and early fall. As I type this right now I can hear the wind whipping around my place.

this is mother nature's response to all the people complaining about the lack of a white christmas.
Either that or somebody wished for a white christmas but the genie turned out to be evil

Edit: joking aside, I do hope everyone is safe. Don't take any unnecessary risks, you are not a polar bear, your home is the subtropical savannah :messenger_winking:

Our city has nuclear power and these people are using rolling blackouts. We have plenty of energy for the area and they are still doing blackouts.

I hope it's warm enough for you & your family, brother. There's not much I can do to help, but if you need advice or links to resources, I'm happy to help in anyway I can.

We are fine. We have gas heat. Power only rolls off for 20 to 30 minutes. It is just dumb. We have had colder weeks without losing power.

So I thought us Eurogaffers should support our American brethren throughout the terrible Xmas weather, so for the occasion I wrote a song and maybe we can form an impromptu band and sing it together. We'll call it 'band aid' (geddit?) and Bono has agreed to join us for the chorus, if he can keep awake for long enough.

Here are the lyrics:

It's Christmas time
There's no need to be afraid
At Christmas time
We let in light and we banish shade
And in our world of plenty
We can spread a smile of joy
Throw your arms around the world
At Christmas time

But say a prayer
Pray for the other ones
At Christmas time it's hard
But when you're having fun
There's a world outside your window
And it's a world of dread and fear
Where the only water flowing
Is the icy sting of tears
And the Christmas bells that ring there
Are the frozen chimes of doom
Well tonight thank God it's them instead of you!

There's too much snow in America
This Christmas time
The greatest gift they'll get this year is life
Even Rudolf's nose don't glow
Thanks to all this fucking snow
Do they know it's Christmas time at all?
