I love Elon Musk and fully supported him buying Twitter and I love what he's doing exposing the bias censorship that was going on before he purchased it.

However, I'll admit his banning of social media links is beyond stupid and this whole thing of voting him in or out as CEO is childish as well.

I'm a little disappointed with him. I think he needs to get off Twitter (as a user) for a bit.

I said it earlier in the thread but he said they’re gonna be throwing stuff at the wall and seeing what sticks.

That didn’t stick. It’s fine. I think the people throwing tantrums and following his every move in a state of hissy fit outrage need to take some time off twitter. It’s not good for their blood pressure.

Yeah, I hear you. But it's still the way he's pulling it off that doesn't look good in my opinion. I like him to get back to exposing the censorship and whatnot that was going on and being more mature and useful.

"that didn't stick" because he didn't get the vote he wanted. You really think he'd be talking about making this change if the vote went the other way?

That vote stuff is just a way to drum up publicity and you’re falling for it. Take a break.

Nah it’s brilliant. His enemies will pay $8 to rage vote against him.
Even if every user of Twitter paid $8 Twitter would still be in a huge hole from when Elon bought it. Advertisers have left in droves because of nonsense like this. Twitter is worth a pittance of what Elon paid largely because Elon can’t help but troll and attention whore.

He should be able to win the next vote as there won't likely be that many people that would give the company money to vote him out as pay to keep him in.

Staying on is exactly the opposite of what Tesla investors were hoping and analysts said would hurt the companies more.

Oh bull shit lol

He has had polls for decisions multiple times now and has abided by every one. The one about the journalists and others didn't go his way which made him mad, but he still stuck to it. Now he has ANOTHER one that apparently went against what he expected, but this time it's the majority of Twitter telling him to go away and his fragile ego can't handle it so he is moving the goalposts.

Defend him if you want, but at least make it make sense given the context.

Invest in my company where we throw shit at the wall and see what sticks, a time-honored and sound business strategy.

Advertisers largely left the platform before he took over (they didn't renew their contracts for next year), and a bunch of car companies left to hurt Tesla. Other than that, twitter largely operates the same way as it always has, so it doesn't seem like most advertisers are leaving.

This is the thing, I think he's handled this Twitter thing terribly, and I am getting tired of his trolling.

BUT, it's making all the weirdoes and nutjobs overreact to this like he's killing baby seals. So I feel like I have to root for him. I fear you guys more than him.

They beg to differ that Musk is the worst CEO akimbo009 akimbo009 has ever seen?

Well I dunno how I caught a stray here, but Musk ain't even a CEO. He's a mouth piece who takes credit for smarter people who make things happen.

Pretty sure it's no surprise that Musk ran Twitter into the ground, and is now begging for mercy. Hard to get this shit right but helps if you listen.

Best place for breaking information if you know where to search and who to follow.

basic Twitter search and trends are the opposite.

I didn't try hard enough I guess but sure most stuff is linked on forums or daily news anyway, so easier to follow (for me). I only followed 8 bit dudes and I already had them on FB anyway. Plus I read the news online and in print. Just had no need for it, any recommended users were either THOTS or wild conspiracy theorists. I never even looked them up or tweeted anyone.

The THOTS were usually wankable material but the loonies ... not so much. Have been on too many things since mIRC. Just didn't need it.

BTW your username, is it Commodore?

Yeah, that’s fucking pathetic. To spend weeks banging on about how Twitter will be the ‘town square‘ where the will of the people will be heard… and then ignore the will of the people because it doesn’t suit you, is just so weak. Talk about trashing your reputation.

Just reminded me of 'The Town of Salem'.

Gotta play that again. (was brilliant). Hard to pick a best role.

I've already done so.

he'd still own Twitter, and I'm sure he'd still remove his replacement if he felt the replacement wasn't doing what he wanted, so I'm not sure what the difference would be.

As long as he owns twitter, he'll always have the most influence, which makes this poll seem mostly pointless.

But to continue that line of thought:

Yeah, that’s fucking pathetic. To spend weeks banging on about how Twitter will be the ‘town square‘ where the will of the people will be heard… and then ignore the will of the people because it doesn’t suit you, is just so weak. Talk about trashing your reputation.

He never said he'd ignore the results of this poll. I'm pretty sure he's suggesting that's how it will work going forward. The results of this poll probably don't matter to him, because he has always said he'd be stepping down once he was able to make the changes he wanted. Either it's yet another excuse to get people talking about twitter, or it's another bot experiment, or it's both.

Just because he lost a poll doesn't mean he's not going to show up for work tomorrow, or have a raffle of current twitter employees to see who gets to be the next CEO. This changes nothing of his already announced plans. If that poll would have included a successor and / or a time frame, then it might have actually mattered.

In other twitter news "wake up honey, a new verified badge just dropped."

As I said in another thread when he first talked about doing this: "If they really wanted to, I would think journalists who aren't freelancers could be "claimed" by their employers, and perhaps musicians claimed by their labels, or even celebrities claimed by their agencies. That could add another "layer" of verification and status that some might find hard to resist. Not sure if things will really work like that, though."

It'll be interesting to see if I was right.

Yeah, nah. You can't claim 'it's just a bot experiment' for polls you don't like the results of. He's making himself look like an absolute tool with all of this. And it's affecting his standing as a businessman quite badly. Anyone with an objective viewpoint can see that none of these decisions or actions are being made by someone who's in control, or knows what they're doing. Which is a shame, because he's shown he can be like that in different aspects. Seems ridiculous to piss it all away on a social media platform, but there you have it.

It depends on place and the issue. The value is in going closest to the sources of events. Because tweets are short it is fast to jump from one source to another until you find interesting perspectives. If an event is disputed those who argue would be mentioning and responding to each other, so you can get both sides of the Argument. And if you are very interested you can go back to these peoples timelines and see the details of how the issues developed.

People have been suggesting, and he's also been hinting, that several high-profile polls have in part been efforts to learn how bots are used on twitter, so why would this poll be any different? And again, win or lose, I'm sure it changes nothing.

However, we can probably find a lot of common ground when it comes to how this all looks. It's not great. I'll defend the guy when I think he's being inaccurately criticized, support him when I agree with him, and criticize him myself when I don't agree with what he's doing. There's actually been a lot of the latter. Outside of what I feel was a pretty smart way to handle the twitter files, there's been a lot of dumb, contradictory, and hastily made decisions. Much of this isn't at all turning out to be what I was hoping for.

But I said this poll was pointless even before the results came in, and I'm sticking to that one.

please explain this bot discovery methodology that can only get results from polls rather than simply owning and having access to the entire infrastructure of platform?

You're smarter than this. The guy is a pathological liar. Come on man. You don't run a race and then when you lose say it doesn't count, you were just doing a science experiment on wind resistance.

He literally said "I will abide by the results of the poll." That is a LIE. It means you can't trust what he says at all. And he's lied over and over now.

Elon is pissing away 44B $ and it's his own money so I don't care. I do care slightly about investors money in Tesla that he is flushing down the toilet because of bad publicity though.

Anyone that paid 44B for a company that has lost so much money is not worth worrying about.

Again, he didn't say it didn't count. Why would he when it doesn't matter? And I said it doesn't matter as soon as I became aware of it, and before results were in.

But yeah, if he says "that one didn't count so I'm not going anywhere," I'll agree that would be quite lame. Even now how he's handling matters already seems unprofessional and weirdly whim based.

The hypothesis is that he's making a post that would interest bots, learning how to filter for those bots, and then making another post that would interest bots. Well, not the bots themselves, but the people running the bots, of course.

Then again, I think it's just as likely that he's doing all of this because he wants to continue to dominate the news cycle. Or perhaps a mix of both.

ok, and where is evidence of Twitter filtering bots after these experiments?
