It would be nice if they could get the guys at id to help them with the shooter gameplay cause that's pretty bad as well.
Well thing is, they actually did. :goog_relieved:

It's nothing great but still, the shooting aspect got a jump in quality when compared to Fallout 3/NV

Just had the coolest boss fight against two Valkyries in GoW Ragnarok. The adrenaline, the music, the build up, the awesome sauce of the whole fight, it was like a dance, that if you missed a beat, you got pummeled hard. And the victory and subsequent "finisher move" by Kratos and Atreus was so good. I think I came twice in my pants.

Finished God of War Ragnarok. Amazing game. It was a bit slow in the beginning, didn't really feel it as it was relatively samey as the first one, but as soon as it picked up the pace it never let go. The combat, the new realms and characters, everything was so well put together (except for some boring puzzles). The last stretch of the adventure was incredibly epic, on a scale that is worthy of the franchise. Ragnarök improved on a lot of things from the original, most importantly the awesome set pieces. But the storytelling was very good too. Compelling and gripping right up until the end. A journey I'm not gonna forget in the first time.

This reboot is a fantastic achievement for Santa Monica and shows just how far ahead of the curve Sonys first party studios is in the AAA space. The production values is off the chart. Very polished straight out of the gate. Ragnarök deserves all the praise it has gotten and then some, and even if Elden Ring is my personal GOTY this year, I won't be disappointed if GoW gets the win at the Game Awards.

Bravo to everyone who contributed to this game. You are all amazing artists 👏 👏 👏

For the last few months I've been playing Knack, Knack 2 and Hot Wheels Unleashed.

Knack 1 and 2 were great games, not top notch, but they were fun; although I liked part 1 a little bit better.

But Hot Wheels is a hit! It reminds me a bit of Trackmania, but unfortunately there's no way online to just do the fastest lap in 15 minutes or so. Otherwise fast, looks good, feels good and is absolutely fun!

Oh and Spongebob - Battle for Bikini Bottom. That was funny too, but I was glad when it was over :messenger_grinning_sweat:

I'm currently trying out Far Cry 3 (Classic Edition) and it looks like it'll be a lot of fun too.

Cores, shaders and BIOS oh my!
Playing Phantasy Star IV for the first time. It's kinda hilariously bad in story.

Fun enough to play with some archaic systems (I can't seem to even be able to sort my inventory which doesn't stack items so they all show up in order of acquiring rather than by type or whatever, it's not been a problem yet with a limited number of them but, we'll see). but, even though theoretically it's a fine setting and plot, if you read a synopsis or something it's not gonna sound bad at all, the usual ancient civilization tech unearthed or discovered, new baddie trying to do something with it crap and all, but just the way it's so juvenile and simplistic about everything is funny.

Go around exploring after a mission as a hunter or whatever and it appears this Zio guy has been wreaking havok across the land, you meet a destroyed village here, another where its people have been turned to stone there. The party leader is being all greedy asking more money from this one client about every new thing encountered, that's actually a nice funny bit every so often, the last time he went all how it was gonna be his marriage funds.

But yeah it's like. You meet random character who goes:
- My parents were killed by Zio and I want revenge take me with you (some character chimes in about how maybe it's better not to). I'm going anyway!
- Ok dude come along!

Go in temple to rescue this scientist, turns out it's some kind of ancient lab or whatever, you find the grandpa.
- This area seems safe, how did you ever survive this long?!
- This person saved me!

Out pops an elf ear chick like she was hiding behind him all this time so they didn't see her.
- WHO ARE YOU AND WHAT'S WITH THOSE EARS!
- I'm Rika! Come talk to Seed he'll lexplain it all!

Go to next room.
- Ok who's Seed?!
- He's in front of you (the computer)!
- I'm Seed! Hi, this lab and others like it are keeping your planet ecosystem and climate in check so the human race could survive past the apocalypse but it's old and malfunctioning so you better destroy it or it'll do more harm than good hence all the monsters around and you can do this by destroying this central structure that powers all such structures. But you need to rescue this android for it as only it can destroy that!
- Where's the android?!
- Zio has it!
- That bastard!
- Also take Rika with you she's my daughter made from 1000 years of improvement and evolution on the bioengineering systems or whatever and she'll help!
- Awesome, we'll take her!

Go back out that place. Seed self destructs the whole place mumbling about now knowing Rika will complete the task.
- Rika you have to look ahead and fulfill Seed's wish!
- Ok!

Just funny as heck how simplistic every dialogue and everything is like children wrote it. I wonder if it's the same in Japanese. This seems like one of those, it's only a famous series because it was made by Sega and they didn't have anything else to compete against Final Fantasy with so it has to do.

NO PAIN TRANCE CONTINUE
Gained some knowledge and progress in Nioh 2 due to a FightingCowboy vid and some help from Pejo Pejo

Still some mechanics that need to become second nature and summoning is real cool.

Sold some stuff in Diablo 2 and gave my hired help some gear.

Currently on mission 3 I think. Nees to look for some dark tower if I remember correctly.

And ofcourse Gran Turismo 7.

Spider-Man. I still can’t believe I never finished it on PS4. I’m currently around 60-70% through the story and have completed the majority of the side stuff. I seem to have found the sweet-spot with the combat and I’m having a lot of fun with it and even managed a 200+ combo at one point. Sometimes a certain game seems to scratch that itch just at the right time.

Days Gone. I'm barely an hour into it, seems a little simplistic but that's not an issue. I'm salvaging scrap, crafting, shooting zombies and that's it. Lots of cut scenes too. I know it wasn't as well received as Sony's really big hitters but is this it till the end? I'm pretty okay with that if so. Its quite relaxed.

Mass Effect 3

I’m 2 hours in but I can already tell that dumbing down of RPG mechanics continue. The jump from 1 to 2 was jarring and it seems that the jump from 2 to 3 is even worse.
It is and it's not going to become better. It's bascially a slightly more complex action game.

Ehhhhhh it’s so sad. Mass Effect 1 is so good, easily one of the best modern RPGs. I’ve read somewhere that Mass Effect 4/5 (whatever it’s called) is going back to series roots. I hope that’s the case.

Replying ME1 made me super hyped for Starfield.

The last mission
in London if I recall correctly
is basically just a dime a dozen sci-fi shooter. It's amazing what they did to the series in that regard.

Playing Pokemon Scarlet and Violet here, but damn them for not enabling Home day 1.

Borderlands 3 and I’m enjoying it more than I expected. The graphics are even better than I remember, the settings are interesting, the gameplay is tight and precise and fun, the music slaps, and I’m having a great time! I’m now in the bounty of blood dlc. I thought flak was the best character but now that I’ve tried Moze, she’s BY FAR the best.

Cult of the Lamb on Steam Deck. Love this game.

Still playing GOW:R but I'm getting a little tired of the gameplay and story. They really bloated the fuck out of the sequel didn't they?

I think I'm addicted to games developed by the RGG Studio. :goog_relieved:

This year I've beaten Yakuza 5 and 6, and a few days ago also Judgment. I never go for the 100% but I try and complete at least all the sidequests and any meaningfull minigames, so I put a ton of time into those games.

Thing is, I seem unable to feel burnt out of this formula, so last night I started Lost Judgment and man, so far this one is also very good. I think the combat has never felt so good, the music is great and the story seems interesting so far while also being quite different from the previous game.

It also was a surprise to see the game taking place in Yokohama Ijincho, same city as in Yakuza 7 which was the first game I played from this series.

JFC Nioh 2 is quite complex. Had a much easier time with the Soulsborne games.
For sure. The memes weren't exaggerating.

I've yet to dive into Nioh 2. I kinda want to but as for now I'm enjoying simpler or more comfy games.

Lost Judgment is the sequel to Judgment my man. Pretty cool games if you don't mind a lot of focus on story.

Holy Shit I wasn't aware of these memes. Pretty accurate lmao.

Ahh a sequel. Makes sense. They've been on sale off and on. I'm sure I'll try those out later down the road. Glad you're enjoying them (or have) <3

After having finished SIGNALIS, the Deponia trilogy, Rise of the Third Power, Return to Monkey Island and A Plague Tale Reqiuem in October and November, I'm now playing

Cyberpunk 2077
finally have the hardware to play this with RT on and the game itself is in a state where I can enjoy (although it is STILL glitchy at times) in contrast to its release.
it looks super brilliant on an OLED with RT and I love how the shooting feels with adaptive triggers from the DualSense

Card Shark
I wouldn't know how cheating at cards could be so much fun if someone told me. The way it's explained feels authentic and although it's just a collection of mini games (28, mind you!) I love the vibes, dialogues and I'm intrigued where the story's going.

Right now it's a mix of OW2 and Wolfenstein: TNO. After that it'll be some Miles Morales to tie in for Christmas time.

Been having a strong urge to get back into Returnal too for some reason.

Taking a small break from AC Valhalla to play Broken Sword: Directors Cut. I´m a huge fan of the Broken Sword-series, dating all the way back to Playstation when I bought the first game in 1995-96. Loved the game so much I went on buying every other installment. But I haven´t had a chance to play the Director´s Cut versions of 1 & 2 so now that I finally got myself a PC I figured it was time to check them out. Only played the intro with Nico but I love it already. Can´t wait to dive in yet again in this masterpiece of a point and click adventure.

Tons and tons of Efootball2023 while watching the World Cup; we used to have a lot of players here on GAF but not so many these days I feel.

Game is perfection... Pure sex... I have the feeling that this is what they were aiming to be all along having played since like 2001.

Net code is absolute perfection 0 lag no matter where the opponent is.

Trying to get into something else as well a RPG hopefully... Only game in my backlog is Genshin... I just got my 3rd character and went meh... this isn't for me... Cannot get into anything else.

I liked Code Vein and Remnant: From the Ashes a lot; if anyone could recommend something like them I'd be very happy

Just finished Alan Wake. Started great, slipped down to good and finished painfully borderline average.

In terms of gameplay barely anything changes from the very beginning. It's so repetitive I can't believe so many people loved this game.

There's things it does well, but ultimately its very underwhelming.

Beat Stray..fucking loved it! I can see now why so many are giving it the nod for GOTY. Great design, interesting characters and i love exploring that world.

Also about 10 hours into AC Valhalla and loving it so far too. Looks amazing on PS5

DragoonKain

Neighbours from Hell
Went from Ragnarok to Somerville. The reviews on that were all over the place. Some loved it, some hated it. I was in the middle. I thought the art direction and visuals were really cool, some puzzles pretty clever, but the controls blew. Ultimately I liked it though. Wouldn't have paid full price if I knew it was that short. I remember some review saying it was 6+ hours, maybe I misheard, but it was closer to like 3-4.

Just finished Stray which was good, but way overhyped. Interesting world and fun to be a cat. But the controls were bad and the puzzles overly simplistic.

Playing Spiderman: Miles Morales now and I think it’s a downgrade from Spiderman in every way. Except maybe length, which I welcome a shorter game

Currently playing PS5 ratchet and clank. I'll finish it before I go to bed since I only have a bit more to do to beat the game. I played that Captain Commando arcade game from that Capcom beat em up collection. It was a nice little change of pace since I was getting burnt out on r&c. I hate the last boss of Captain Commando and I'm glad I can infinite continue in that game. I think next up is either Strangers of paradise or this new jrpg I bought. Then again I hear Stray is short so I might just jump on that.

Once you get more powerful weapons at the 2nd camp and start mowing down the hoards, the game gets even better

Callisto Protocol. I think reviewers disliked the difficulty but it's just right so far. I have like 4 health injectors and a lot of ammo. I upgraded my damage on the stun baton too

I'm having a ton of fun with it

Just finished Spider-Man for the first time. I was buzzing by the end - what a brilliant game. For some reason I couldn’t finish it when I first played it on PS4 - it just didn’t hold my attention at the time - now I‘ve pretty much completed everything but the street crimes and DLC and loved it. Weird. No doubt I’ll have the platinum trophy soon.

One thing that impressed me with SM was the RT mode - how Insomniac managed to achieve the fidelity and performance in this mode is witchcraft.

Not sure what I’ll play next, but I’m looking forward to TW3 on 14/12.
