I just cannot get over that hair colour...

But its nice to see a fire Emblem game actually putting some effort into combat animations, it's almost as a point I would say "oh your getting close to what's expected from a turn based game"

Which is much better than prior games, but Vs...

It's getting there...

But the story the draw normally anyway, cool trailer for that... but that hair man...

Yeah, that character design does nothing for me. It doesn't seem to fit the established Fire Emblem style. Normally I pick up fire emblem but I don't think I'll be bothering with this one. Still got the last one to work through XD

Awakening, Fates and Three Houses were all great, so I'm going to have faith in this one. Even though if my first impressions with it aren't good. I really love the Fire Emblem series, and it's one of my favorite Srpgs. That said, I've been playing Tactics Ogre Reborn and it's making me realize how much I appreciated Srpgs that aren't very anime in their tone. The world needs Matsuno again.

Someone really should've told whoever designed that MC's hair to please stop.

Here's the trailer in jap for those like me that can't stand anime with english dub:

Damn I don't get some people hate on character design... Why is it "bad"? It doesn't look bad to me, just not great but far from bad.

Have you played Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance before? I personally don't think Fire Emblem used to be super anime until Awakening came and changed all that. PoR in particular had the best story in the series. It was mostly a grounded war story with competing interests amongst its cast.

Here's the trailer in jap for those like me that can't stand anime with english dub:

Anime with a great english dub are just harder to come by, and tend to be inferior to the japanese original, but I'm more than happy when a good English dub comes by. I love playing Xenoblade 1 and 3 in English. Xenoblade 2, I'm more on your side for that one. For Fire Emblem Engage, our English dub is just plain mediocre. The bad writing doesn't help either. The japanese trailer you posted definately sounds much better, natural, energized, and convincing.

What a coincidence, I just spent the last few days playing Three Houses on my PC/Deck combo.
I've been collecting waifus like fucking Pokemons.

Still not sure what this is supposed to be, by the way, and the trailer doesn't tell much aside from some anime shit.
Is this a continuation of the series or another spin-off brawler like Three Hopes?

I'm not native english speaker, so anime + english is a definitive NO from me, no concessions, I just won't enjoy it, it sounds bad to me no matter how good or bad it is... I've said this before, but I'll skip any masterpiece GOTG japanese anime game if my only option was to play it with english dub and won't regret the littlest.

Maybe if I was from US or UK I couldn't care that much but it just feels wrong to me, like watching game of thrones or whatever with korean dub...

It's the next mainline Fire Emblem SRPG in the series. So a "continuation of the series." Older Fire Emblem heroes appear in the game as spirits, or Emblems rather, that assist the main cast (which I think is stupid, but whatever).

Just curious, but what's your native tongue?

Edit: Oops, didn't mean to double post.

Cores, shaders and BIOS oh my!
Hope Tactics Ogre: Reborn becomes a success and Square brings more such games out with even more sales and maybe hopefully we'll eventually get a Fire Emblem that is gritty and serious again. Probably won't happen since it's doing so well no such remaster will ever approach it though...

Weird to have other series hero ghosts or whatever join the fight as if it's some weird crossover like Tokyo Mirage Sessions rather than its own new thing and the proper sequel they otherwise present it as. Maybe if it was to be the final Switch FE and kind of a series homage a la Sakura Wars 4.

Latinamerican spanish, dubs in here are pretty high quality in general but even then I refuse to watch One Piece Red Film dubbed (have watched it in japanese for more than a decade now and dub is literally new here for that anime), anything else I'll watch in jap too but some things I can enjoy local dub like in Zelda BOTW.

My problem is with english voiced anime stuff, it feels too wrong and out of place to me :(

I still fucking hate the dual haircolor of the mainchar but otherwise the game looks good. Looking forward to some more SRPG goodness.

These character designs in general might be the worst in the franchise so far (at least mainline entries).
But I'm really glad it's shaping up to be a more normal experience and not another Highschool simulator so I'm still in. Glad I still might get a Fire Emblem I like on the Switch after all.

Hated three house because of that sim like running around aspect. Get rid of it. Loved awakening, PoR and especially Fates

It's impractical and distracting. I'm sure there's a story reason why his hair is like that, but that doesn't change the fact it looks ridiculous. Some things are just visually repulsive and bothersome to look at. Fire Emblem used to be more serious in tone. That's not to say the last three games were bad, they were great, but fans have been concerned about the shift in tone to more lighthearted and anime, and Engage seems to be the culmination of that. Visually speaking they've officially crossed the line into full blown weeb territory. The main character looks like he should be wielding a Keyblade in some shitty Kingdom Hearts spinoff.

You don't need to be "practical" all the time (whatever that means, they dye their hair just because they like it, leave it at it), something can have a lot of personality just for the sake of style.

Now, you and some don't like that style, that's the only problem you have with the game, not that the games have something "bad" or are doing something "wrong" with their art style, a lot of us like them a lot... Hell, if anything, the switch in art style is something that has made the franchise be more profitable and survive.

If it doesn't bother you that's great. But since you asked I'm just explaining why a lot of people don't like the look of the MC.

Idc what anyone says Alear looks swaggy as fuck. People just want the same run of the mill conventional designs like byleth.

I hate the art style of this game so much. It just looks so trashy to me. I miss the art style this series had for the GBA/GameCube/Wii games.

Yeah I liked the look of Path of Radiance.

It's anime but not the ridiculous overdesigned kind, and everyone (maybe except for Mist) at least looks like they belong on a battlefield

Is that the main character? can you choose the gender?
The female version looks slightly less stupid.

Engage is a dumb name.

Fire Emblem: The Divine Dragon. Way better and took two seconds.

The Fire Emblems. Edgy, and relates to the plot because you use "Emblems" in this game. Boom. Hire me Nintendo.

Most of the writing feels cringey, and the designs are overall bad, but if the gameplay is good, I will be a good little consumer and buy the game.

It is complete and utter garbage and frankly an absolutely bewildering decision from IS!

And the whole saturday morning kiddie show plot and MOBAGE aesthetics look particularly pathetic after Three Houses' more realistic, lush design and darker plot put the franchise on the map, selling absolute gangbusters. 4 million copies - as a FE fan for 20 years, the franchise simply doesn't do numbers like this.

Will very much miss Chinatsu Kurana's art... But well, who am I kidding ofc I will buy the game.

I wonder if the hair thing is foreshadowing to being forced to pick the good/evil path at a turning point in the story, then getting either full blue/full red hair.

Anyways, I'm so glad the 3H changes have been reverted. Weapon triangle back too. Story looks melodramatic as fuck but w/e, I'm in.

What about people who go permadeath but they restart the chapter when someone dies or use the obligatory Mila's Turnwheel/Divine pulse/Whatever it will be in this game?
After Triangle Strategy, permadeath just seems archaic and actively detrimental to good game design. The battle difficulty should be balanced around death, but it's not.

They're a special kind of masochist.
For me it depends on the character, if it's someone like this dude then i throw him to the wolves and let him get killed without a second thought

But if it's someone that looks like this then yeah i surround her with 5 bodyguards and i may restart the whole game if she got killed lol

It looks like it may be more aimed at a younger demographic? In game the color palette seems brighter with thicker outlines help the characters pop more. The characters in the trailer also seemed more one dimensional. Overly optimistic/good or cartoonishly evil.

The last few entries at-least hid the big bad/demon lord characters until the end. Making villains more relatable and understanding the conflicts between houses or countries made things feel more grounded. This seems pretty cut and dry good vs evil which while not a bad thing, feels like a step back...

Nah, the character design is too stupid. My guess is you'll hit a road block and decide to be blue hair protagonist or red hair antagonist at some point in the game after some major reveal keeping with the themes of the last few entries.

I think it's meant to capitalize on the success of the mobile game. Especially the part about summoning heroes from past games.
