Sony appreciates "the CMA’s focus on protecting gamers" as it welcomes the announcement to further investigate the Activision acquisition

Now that MS has bought Activision Blizzard, yes. Sony should easily be able to justify it to the regulators, especially if the same regulators have greenlit the Activision purchase.
So, since the third did an acquisition, the market leader should also be able to do it?
I don't think you know how these things work. Money paid is not a metric they look at

And you people would be OK with that? What world do we live in where people are OK with mega corps gobbling up everyone. I have access to all the games anyway, but even so, it's bad move and greedy. This is Ms MO. They don't create x they buy what others do, and ruin competition.
This doesn't sound dissimilar to Sony. Moneyhatting left and right. Buying developers. They just don't have the money Microsoft does or they would absolutely try to make the same types of acquisitions. It is what it is.

That was before Microsoft bought them. Microsoft didn't make those deals with Sony which is what you're saying. Games like Starfield are not coming to playstation. Bethesda isn't being given the Mojang treatment.
What I said;
A MS owned publisher that currently has more exclusives on Playstation than Xbox... Hmm You win, I can't beat that.
You trumped me and won already, take the chips!

So it's different from other Microsoft and indeed Sony buy outs because of the money Sony make from COD, even though it's not as big of a seller as it once was, and nobody is that bothered about it, now I get it. ;)
I don't even know how to reply to this stupid take that got nothing to do with what i said. Just so you know playstation makes over 20b in revenue a year and cod revenue is around 1bil revenue from playstation...
So drop whatever you are smoking

I dont know. I dont know what Jimbo fears worse. Losing half of his revenue or sharing 30% of it with Microsoft while watching Phil undermine games like MLB The Show and CoD by offering them for free on gamepass on playstation.

I would personally let CoD go, and buy Take2. GTA Online was the second game on the list of most played online games at 40%. It wouldve been a great bargaining chip. You take cod? We take GTA away. But they idiotically spent $3.2 billion on Bungie who is only around 17% iirc. Maybe lower. Bungie makes games for the hardcore, casuals cant do those raids. Regardless, Take2 bought Zynga which added another $12 billion to their already high $18 billion price tag. But Sony shouldve pounced when they were under $20 billion. At $40 billion, they now simply have no shot unless they spinoff zynga immediately to another buyer like Tencent or Embracer group.

They couldve also bought Ubisoft and Capcom, but they might be waiting to see if this deal goes through. They need leverage right now and they have none. Bungie alone isnt enough. You need Destiny, Assassins Creed, Far Cry, Resident Evil, Street Fighter, and a lot more to negotiate for CoD. And this constant whining from Jimbo indicates that this option of acquiring publishers simply isnt available to him.

Sony absolutely positively has something up their sleeve. A major purchase is coming, but you will not hear about it until after the Activision deal is completed.

If Microsoft is forced to agree to keep COD on PS as a prerequisite, I think they'll abandon the deal. Their intention, although not stated publicly for obvious reasons, was to use COD as some type of leverage. Probably to force GP on PS as the only store front/service through which the game is published.

The long term problem is that MS is horrific at managing studios.

To be fair I didn't win anything. Once Microsoft took over Bethesda they started to remove playstation from the equation. Before that sure Sony made deals with them but games like Deathloop are coming out on gameplay. Same will happen with any other games that Sony paid for.

Still not understanding your point BTW.

If CoD moves to GP and off PS, that’s going to lose profit, not just “half” it
You know thats true. Check out the Forza and Halo sales info Ive posted in several threads. Gamepass success is not translating into sales which will cut into their profits. It's weird to see them doubling down on gamepass because all the narratives about gamepass helping sales have proven to be false. Yet Starfield is still set for release and now COD. Take one look at how much money Disney lost with 150 million subs and how HBO is effectively pulling out of the streaming wars, and it should become clear to everyone that streaming services are not sustainable.

Maybe they think getting those 25 million cod players will push them to $500 million a month in gamepass revenue and $6 billion in a year, but I just dont see people subbing for the whole year.

Your logic and reasoning is baffling, but carry on by all means.

How many Activision are out there willing to sell?

You just don't go buy stuff because you have money. Because whatever you buy have logistics involved. How many studios get close down because doesn't work? How studios EA bought just to kill it after because they can't handle. Sony has absolutely money to buy anything. Any company that makes billion in profits has money to spend.
Have you heard about loan? Yeah that's a thing.

Your logic and reasoning is baffling, but carry on by all means.

I'm glad we clear things up

Microsoft have responded:

UPDATE 5pm UK: In a statement to Eurogamer, a Microsoft spokesperson has addressed Sony's statement: "It makes zero business sense for Microsoft to remove Call of Duty from PlayStation given its market leading console position."

Making statements directly to Eurogamer huh?

This is gonna get super dirty isn't it. If Sony is buttering up the cma and this doesn't go through I see Microsoft buying exclusivity stuff like crazy...or hopefully all this exclusivity goes away and people can play games where they want with zero timed bullshit.
It will go through but with concessions.

Oh for sure. The reality is that if Microsoft loses, then some other entity be it Amazon, Tencent, Saudi Prince, Meta, etc will likely jump in.
And if MS wins, those entities will 100% jump in and have a precedent to not worry about losing. Bet. Especially Meta. They already are dipping their toes into deals with Capcom and the like.

They didn't put out that statement for loves and cuddles, they are foretelling what they want to do.

I don't know enough about this stuff to say one way or the other if MS will make concessions to get the deal through, or if it will go through without a hitch. And if I am being totally honest, I don't care either. Any way you slice this its a big deal for MS and from my perspective Sony is coming off like some sour boys that are just mad that despite years of shitty anti-consumer tactics, someone bigger came along and didn't just beat them at their own game, but bought the game right up. So I don't really care how this ends. Come March 2023 (or whenever the deal is done), Game Pass will be an even better value than it was before and that's more or less all I care about.

How many copies does cod sell on Playstation? 10m-15m? So worst case scenario, sony lose them. Big deal! Hardly going to end the ps brand. Sony should spice it up and make their own fps franchise. New ip. Not killzone or resistance.

And you think Microsoft deal is about what? Giving people free cotton candy everyday? :messenger_grinning_sweat:
Nope it is also about money, adding asset worth approx 70bn usd to their portfolio, then regular billions of revenue every quarter. As I said it is all about money, no one gives a shit about players. Deal benefits me as own some Acti shares and I am gamepass subscriber so for me it is win win if if it goes through.

Sony got the power to kill this trash ass franchise forever, and they are still fighting for it. Just stop it please, jimbo, go to Hawaii and chill bruh lmao
