What are some games where you regret paying money into?

For me, it's Destiny 2.
Bought some skins. The game is exploitative with FOMO, and the content you purchased was removed entirely including full expansions. I stopped playing altogether because it felt like a chore.
I regret spending money on this game.

What about you? Whether it's a title or in-game monetization, etc.

I cry about Xbox and hate PlayStation.
Plural? So you kept buying them even though they all follow the same formula?
i bought yakuza zero, yakuza 6 and yakuza kiwami, did not complete any of them.
Yes weird i know.

Perhaps i should give it a chance and go back sometime.

If you make a serious try at Yakuza Zero and you can't get to the end them give up. They don't get any better than that.

Elden Ring. But the reasoning behind my regret is different than you might think. It is not the game itself I regret buying.
I regret buying it at launch. Why? I don’t seem to have a lot of free time to spend on such a huge game.
There hasn’t been a moment yet where I can just sit and enjoy this game for a few hours. All I have are an hour or 2 to spend on gaming atm. Elden Ring is too big for that. So I tend to commit to other games first, where figuring shit out only takes minutes and you can just start and end whenever you want.

Destiny 1 for sure.

I was super hyped for it. Played the beta and alpha. Loved the loop, everything about the slice of game I played, to me it was brilliant. So good that I got the digital deluxe and season pass, to play day one ASAP.
Too bad that the beta was just like the whole game. The loop ended up being almost a full time job, dailies, weeklies, raids, the dude that appeared on Fridays I believe...events... It was exhausting.

im gonna regret putting money into Avengers when it dies with no offline mode and everything u purchased is just gone forever

like a week after getting Witch Queen in Destiny 2...i was thinking i could be just fine if i never played Destiny again. I just play it for PVP reasons. But i kinda force myself to play all the other stuff to level up for the battlepass or get certain weapons, or finish catalysts etc.

also just buying a skin in any first person game in general.

Death Stranding. I kind of knew it is not going to be a game for me, but bought it on launch anyway. Mostly out of curiousity. It looks great and is unlike anything else but it is also frustratingly boring even when it tries to be weird and ridiculous.

Halo Infinite. When MP was first released it was hype AF but 343 dropped the ball so hard that every EUR spend in that game hurts to this day.

Older SNK games that are unplayable online.

KOFXIII (even playing online with someone in the same building the online was bad, no joke)
Samurai Shodown (even though the series X version online is a LOT better for some reason, it is dead and you will only get matches via discord)

I do not regret buying Avengers, the game is bad but it kept me occupied during lockdown....Evolve(d?) I think I only playyed one game that went well a few that were trash and never touched it again.I also bought Gta IV and barely ever played it.

Destiny 2 and Elden Ring. Both got great reviews, and based on what I read and saw I should be able to lose myself in these games, but for some reason I'm done with them after 10 hours

BotW, because I had to hack my Switch in order to cheat and make it a little bit more enjoyable. Got a console ban because of it.

Superman 64 (I was young 😔). No explanation needed.

The 5 euro I spent to buy Fallout 3 as a magazine pack in. One of the most boring games I ever played. Luckily, I didn't have to spend a cent to try out and find out that Fallout 4 was equally bad.

Saw Anthem for 2€ in the store. Impulse buy, instant regret.

While I didn't buy it, I requested to review Damnation on PS3 for the site I was writing for back then. It was so bad I couldn't finish it.

Game? I'll go one further and say I fully regretted buying a Gamecube and most of the games I purchased on it.

But more recently (even though it's not that recent) I'll say Halo: Reach. Hated the game and the changes it brought to Halo.:sick::sick::sick:

Spiderman 2 pc version

I had read glowing review for this title from newspaper and I was stoked for a good spiderman game after the movie. As a young lad back then, saving 50 bucks wasn't easy, so it was fair amount of cash at that time. I cycled 10 kilometers to the store and back, and put the pc running.

I was really sad once I found how shitty and childish the game was compared to the movie and the review. Later I found out that pc version was completely different game and was pissed.

Importing a wii and twilight princess to play the game three weeks early.
All those PS360 games on special that today gather dust in storage, never to be played.

For me is has to be Dirt 5 hands down, I would say Cyberpunk but at least that game was decent for making wallpapers at least.

BF2042 I just refunded within the 3 hour window.

Ratchet and Clank. Should have waited for sale. £70 is too much.

Miles Morales. Should have waited for it to be £30. Not much content.

Destiny 2. Felt like a Free-To-Play game day 1.

GTA V

great game but it's gone on far too long now. should've had GTA VI about 4-5 years ago but people are buying it for the 3rd gen in a row! It's a PS3 game that has came out for PS4 and now PS5. And then there's the online part which people are throwing money at.

I bought it for PS3/PS4 and spend some money on shark cards in 2014 so i'm part of the problem. I regret doing it and i hate what rockstar have become now. GTA was my favourite gaming series but now I am struggling to care about the next game because it's going to be the same if not worse. It'll come out on PS5 and Rockstar will still be selling it in 9-10 years when the PS6 and PS7 are out.

Final Fantasy 7 RI
I waited to play it until the PS5 release, I like the visuals and the music makes me nostalgic but at the end it just dosen’t feel like FF7, I’m forcing myself through it just to see the story changes and cutscenes but can’t deal with that janky realtime combat, imo it plays like crap. And now it’ll come to PS+ so I could’ve just played it through that instead of buying it.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow. I thought it seemed cool and bought a very expensive collector's edition, but the game was shit so I sold it after a few days.

Mighty no. 9, backed on Kickstarter. I was expecting a great 2D hand-drawn sprite animated game and got an extremely ugly 2.5D polygon game that looked very low budget and was boring and poorly designed.

Broken Age, backed on Kickstarter. An extremely disappointing game in every way for me.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake. Never played the original and thought I'd finally give it a chance but .. no. I just hated every aspect of it. Unbearable for me to play.

There are a lot more games but these come to mind first.

Seriously? Wtf.

Oh god watch out, a Destiny 2 player is going to come along and explain that its not deleted its just "vaulted" and they will naturally unvault the content they paid for some time in the future, and even if they don't it dousent matter because the new content is so good why would they care about the older stuff they paid for being deleted?

Oh and incase you missed some exotics you can no longer get, that are in the content that you paid for that they deleted, don't worry Bungie will sell you them...

I'm really looking forward to seeing what franchise Sony plan to ruin in future with them by turning it into GaaS. It really is the future of gaming

Most of them to be honest. I'm getting picky and maybe only 1 out of 10 game that I buy will really hook me.
