Ever wonder if you would stop playing video games after a certain age?

Probably never, I play games ALOT less than when I was a kid/teen, now I got work, fiancé and other interest like traveling. Still I play generally everyday for maybe 2-4 hours a day.

I'm waiting for it. At certain times in my life I did give up on games, but it wasn't very long lasting. Due to cultural perception I sometimes feel bad to be my age and still play games, but then I see all those people spending hours upon hours watching TV shows and sports games on cable TV and they consider it normal!

But to be honest, I hope I'll give up on games in order to spend more time with books as I see it way more beneficial.

When I get to a grindy part of a game where there is not much dialogue, I actually listen to audiobooks.

It's actually really calming. I did that a lot when I was playing Warframe. I see it as killing two birds with one stone ;)

Cultural perception is a bunch of paranoia if you ask me. It’s worrying about what other people think. Those people don’t care if you pay your rent or eat your next meal. Your typical adult works an 8-5 job and they work another couple hours managing their household. You pay your taxes and you give most of your time to satisfying other people. If you enjoy a video game then it doesn’t matter what age you are. I see people throwing back beer while watching a football game. If that’s the only thing I can have as an adult then no thanks.

Starting to believe that I'll play them for another 10-15 years depending on whether or not future spawn grow out of it by then haha.
If not, look out world, VR experience in 2089 is what could finally do me in.

I've had my "oh I'm retiring from gaming" doubts before. But as of late, I've seen a resurgence in gaming which means...I'm here to stay! Gamer 4 life

I think a lot of young people have actually stopped gaming to an extent. Mostly due to a lot of games not being good or due to depression or both. It’s hard to deal with boring sucky towns and houses and dumb characters no one cares about over and over again.

Even indie games are a hard sell these days unless it’s something weird and cool and spectacular. Most of the time i don’t even know what i want though or what will work

I'm 30 and I spoke to a fella who was 52 who plays games and when he told me still plays games I laughed and he got MAAAAAAAD. I just didn't think family men still bothered especially 50+ but it is what it is. I play Apex on my PS4 and most of the average player base range from like 10-18. I've played with people older than me like twice.
We were there when it began. It was our hobby before you were a thought in your dad's jeans. How do you think a family man should spend his spare time? Bowling?

As long as I can move my hands and have decent vision - I will.
I haven't been playing portables though... because it's getting pretty difficult to see small things and small text on the screen.
I am getting Steam deck - and it's got 7" screen... but not sure even it would be any good, because I still find 6" Switch screen pretty small for some small texts... :(

In my experience it has little to do with the actual desire to play. I love playing games still. It's just that there's an unbelievable number of stuff going on in life that builds and builds. I'm an older gamer with two kids. it's a challenge when there's always someone or something needing my attention. Time, priorities.. I do play in the night though, thus I don't sleep enough..

I came from the opposite direction. I played a lot as a kid but I didn't really touch games again until I was about to hit 30. And it wasn't until I bought my PS4 in 2015 (at 38) that I truly got into it again.

I honestly hope that I will continue playing into old age. I can't think of a better way to keep my reflexes trained than to play Gran Turismo and pwning n00bs in Dark Souls.

Not while Nintendo keeps developing their usual stuff, even when I va don’t want to play anything there’s something from Nintendo I’ll be diving into

I’m 37 and getting ready to quit gaming. I find games to be too long and bloated and difficult nowadays. They lost the charm to me. It’s been fun but it’s time.

Instead of quitting, maybe consider looking at different genres, like puzzle games, (point and click) adventure games, that sort of thing. Slower paced, so you can dip into them as you please.

I'm 45 this year, and decided that when I hit 50 I'm going to stop playing anything that requires cat-like reflexes :)

I’m 40 years old. I have a good job, my own home…and I game every day and don’t plan on slowing down. I’ve been gaming my whole life and will only quit if Microsoft buys Square Enix 😂

I've been playing since my mom got me the NES with Mario and duck hunt. I am almost 40 and don't see myself stopping anytime soon. It's a hobby and stress relief. My father is 63 and has hundreds of hours into gta5 online under his belt. Guess it runs in the family
40 here, still gaming strong. My pops went through a gaming phase at one point about ten years ago. He was hooked on Command and Conquer type games on PC. When we got our first NES, I will never forget this, but he would play Top Gun with the controller upside down 😂

This is tunnel vision. It focuses on what top executives want in their games to earn a profit from in the long run. It doesn’t focus on sheer amount of hard work designers have put into their games or the work of indie developers creating games on their own terms. There’s a lot out there to pick and choose from. It’s been a growing medium for over 40 years.

You mention how video games have lost their charm and that’s the job of the game designer. They take something and they add the fun to it. Your job isn’t to do that. I notice there is a lot of emphasis on criticism with video games. It is something you have to learn to ignore. I’m sure if you took time to get away then it would be just the same as watching a film, listening to an album, or starting a book. It’s not like video games disappear over night. It’s meant to be entertaining. How does the medium grow if it’s constantly battling ageism or tunnel vision getting in the way of everything? I think there’s more to it than that. I go and read books by game creators or I find some uplifting words from someone who created the games I love. That provides a lot of insight when everything feels like one giant hangover from a party you attended.

Honestly it has never crossed my mind and no one has ever said that to me. I'm 41 and been playing games since I was around 5.

I just turned 40 i buy more games than ever since i got the bread but spend less and less time playing lol. When im done with family and work too tired to play prefer to relax and watch tv. I try to stick to single player games with a sony/resident evilish length of campaign. I also find it more and more painful to read txt in games. My biggest thing is just being tired, ive said it before i fall asleep during loading screens and cutscenes.

Nah. I've noticed my tastes have changed a bit as I've gotten older. I like a game with a good story, something really unique or a 2D game with good controls.

Outside of being physically unable to play games, I can't see every stopping. It's like asking if you can ever see yourself stop watching movies or listening to music. No...

Nope. But I'm still in my 20s so what I say may not have much merit.
I'm a nerd through and through and not interested in night life or anything like that. Games, Anime, w/e I've been following since my younger years will probably be there till I can't anymore.

I notice a lot of people who meet me are surprised to find out I play games. I am told that I don't come across as a gamer.

Never wonder, I'll always game. Gaming to me is everything from cards and board games to video games and AR/VR/peripheral stuff. There is so much to enjoy solo or shared with friends and family. I programmed my first game at 8 years old (text only) and have never stopped gaming at mid-forties now. I still kick my son's ass and his friends at Halo, Apex, Chess, Rayman, CTR and more that are basically full blown twitch reflexes. Experience counts. Don't even start me on platformers or puzzlers etc kids these days don't know what a non YT world is to tough out the only game you had on rental for the weekend.

I've had ups and downs to how much I game e.g. work demands or kids being raised when young etc. Getting older has just taught me to balance all things in my life, gaming included. It helps I basically operate fine on 5-6 hours sleep though. Just never bothers me. Half of my closest friends are met through gaming, why would I ever give that up? My parents, my wife and our kids/friends all join in on games. Sometimes it's a new board game to try, others I'll join a party of my son's friends in ranked Apex, other nights we play Chess before bed, other nights I'm seeing what the discord chat is into and diving into a party chat for some PvE/PvP and the list of gaming activities goes on and on.

When I was a kid I thought I maybe I won't play anymore as an adult but at about 17, I started to play even more and my love for videogames grew even stronger instead. Now at 30 I still play most days. So yeah, as long as my hands allow me i will probably always play.

I figure that I'd only stop playing video games if I was prevented by some physical disability or something. Severe arthritis, blindness, paralyzed.....something like that.

Started in 1977/78, when I was 7, and am still going ... somewhat strong. At 51 the repetitive motion can get to me, so I don’t play as much. I hope I will always enjoy this hobby.

Doubt it. I'll just continue to get more and more selective about what I do play. If there isn't anything that tickles my fancy at the moment, I'll stop even if it's for months at a time, but it'll always be there as a hobby.

During my life I fell in and out of love with games. Last decade, I've loved them but my taste has changed quite a bit. Multiplayer I don't care about, except for couch-co op and

Also, I don't care enough about the latest games to pay a premium. Even on PS5 I'm more than happy to play older (PS4) titles or the PSPLUS offerings.
I'm into retrogaming and PSVR as well, so there's always something to play :)

I’m 40 now. Priorities shifted when I became a dad. I spend less time playing games, but I still play games. Upside of being older is I can buy any console and game that I like. And now my kids are getting older we can play together. A lot of couch co-op with MK8, Lego City Undercover, Minecraft (Dungeons). I don’t think I’ll ever stop gaming.

Nevah. I was asked when am I going to grow up because I played video games and that just made my resolve even stronger lol

I play less and less games all started on the Xbox 360/PS3 era… games became more and more about sequels, no risk, easy way to make money. As a designer and artist I always assumed games were the best medium for creativity
We have vision, sound and input… unfortunately creativity in the gaming industry is absent. The majority of gamers don’t seem to care… so I don’t see things changing and I’ll eventually stop playing video games.

Modern games perhaps. The industry kinda seems to outgrow me as times goes with service and/or bloated games. Unlike in 10+ years ago I rarely find myself being wowed by a games and in "this is something I have never played before" - and no, I don't think that this is just about me being older as I do not see younger kinds being remotely as hooked as we were back then.

The classics on the other hand I will always find time to (re)play.

Til my fingers don't work anymore. Probably just switch to full VR at that point if I haven't already.
