Wasn't planning on buying 2 consoles this gen, I never do, but I was bored as hell and went for a drive, stopped at the mall, Game Stop, to my shock, had a bunch of Series Xs in stock just able to walk in and buy. Got a Series X to go along with the PS5.

First Xbox console since the 360.

Needless to say I've missed a shit ton of exclusives.

I did love Gears 1-3 though. Is Gears 4/5 any good? Thinking those will be the first games I play.

I got Halo Infinite with it, never really been a Halo guy but I do remember enjoying Halo 3 SP as well as CE MP.
Is Forza Horizon 5 any good?

ALSO: How does backwards compatibility work? Can I download SSX 3/Ninja Gaiden 2 from the Xbox Store and play it, or do I have to have the disc?

If you have the disc for SSX3 and NG2 you can just pop it in. Both are in the store for purchase as well. I believe $9.99 and $29.99

Game Pass! If you are willing to commit. Buy 3 years Gold, add it to your account. Then add GP for $1 and now you got GP Ultimate for 3 years! All or most legacy MS games that are BC are on GP. And so is EA Play games. And tons of Bethesda is on it.

Your new system should have a 1 month free GP code with it. No? Pretty sure I had one in the box.

As for BC, if you had a disc, then you need the disc. If your old games were digital copies and they are BC, then just redownload it.

First order of the day is to get your Gamepass subscription sorted. It's THE killer exclusive for Xbox IMHO.

Forza Horizon 5 is an excellent game, and if you liked Gears 1-3, Gears 5 is pretty great. Get the Ori games too, while you're at it.

I’ve cancelled auto renew on my monthly GP Ultimate sub as I was going to try to a cheap 12 month pass. It’s due to run out in a few days (which I assume will also be Xbox Gold as I don’t have a seperate sub), so do I just start an Xbox Live sub then upgrade to GP for a £1? And this will be for the entire term of the sub?

Yes, if you loved gears 3 horde, then you'll like Gears 5 horde as well, it took a few years but it's at the point where I like it more than Gears 3 horde.

Even if you have the disc, you need to be online for the one time BC profile download, after that you can just use your old discs just fine.
Or you can grab them from the store of course.
For xbox games it can be a bit more tricky, like even though NG:B is backwards compatible, my disc for NG OG is not, it needs to be exact same edition.

Also if you bought games digitally on 360, like maybe arcade games, they will still be there to download for free, granted they are BC.

Not really, but there are some gems. I personally don't like Gears 4 or 5, but Rare Replay, Sunset Overdrive and Forza 3, 4, and 5 are superb.

Backwards compatibility is, of course, incredible.

SSX is horrible unless you remap your controls to the PS2 button layout. Oh my days that shit was infuriating, but you have to do it at a system level. I couldn't find an option for it in game. It means the button prompts on screen are messed up, but the game was unplayable for me with its default control layout.

Gears 4 is cool but gears 5 to me is my favourite of them all. I played 1-5 pretty late so that might have skewed my opinion on that though.
Halo Infinite is just.. Halo. Deleted after 30mins.
FH5 is absolutely awesome! I prefer FH4 personally but 5 is solid!

This bad boy is going to save you so much money thanks to Gamepass. It really makes me want to protests buying games again.

Xbox 360 had region locking.
Xbox one is the console region locking vanished.

That being said on Xbox one and series X, you can play region locked games original Xbox and Xbox 360 games, like raiden IV etc

You needed to buy 3 years of gold, redeem them all and then do the 1 dollar offer and it would have turned 3 years of gold into 3 years of Gamepass ultimate.
