Aren't the series S and X consoles completely backward compatibles with all Xbox One games anyway?Microsoft has discontinued all Xbox One consoles
Xbox Series X / S consoles were the main focus for 2021.www.theverge.com
They dont use the same stuff. even if they do, you still have other problems.
Main problem with production is having the logistic for these products. It will take 1-2 years for a warehouse to produce xsx/xss or ps5/ps5d.
You have to account, the staffing, the order for the warehouse, the inventory, the storage, the equipment's. You cant simply transform xbox one factory to xss. or ps4 factory to ps5 and start production right away.
Nah, those game rates dont tell the whole story. Hardcore gamers who buy the console spend more on games than late adopters. Sony gave us numbers and it was $1,700 vs $700 late adopters.Console numbers doesnt guarantee you good game sales. Game rates to consoles is 1/5 for xbox and playstation. At 20m, you cant sell your big games, especially when there are other 3rd party big games.
Games now days are expensive. It cost $100m-$500m to make AAA game. You need to get that money back, and have healthy amount of users buying your console. We are in a 1 year and 3 month period. Both consoles havent hit the 25m console sale mark. So you are dealing with a loss.
Both companies dont want to lose that. Sony doesnt have a back up plan like MS (Xcloud, gamepass, pc day1). and you have 120m/55m users behind. Only an idiot will ignore that cash flows. You might not care about it, but that money is gonna fund your next big game.
Its not suicidal. The new consoles are fully backwards compatible. The new consoles fill in for the old ones as well. Microsoft also offers streaming, PC, and a $300 console option in its place. That is a bad way, to support a company.
Getting rid off old gen in the 1st 2 years is suicidal. You will lose tons of sales, games will preform worse, and you wont have enough sales to fund your next project.
As much as we like to get next gen games, we need to consider the sales of these games. Without enough consoles, you wont get enough sales.
they are much different. With technology advancing, older one wont work on new devices. Are the silicone wafers themselves different between processes or the same? I have no idea about that on a technical level.
At any rate, spend every $, every man hour, etc. on the new generation please. I applaud the decision.
If you put it that way, then I guess going all full in on next gen wont hurt them.Nah, those game rates dont tell the whole story. Hardcore gamers who buy the console spend more on games than late adopters. Sony gave us numbers and it was $1,700 vs $700 late adopters.
We also have data from last gen that shows how KZSF and Infamous both outsold their predecessors which launched on last gen consoles. Despite a small launch window userbase.
We know that MGSV sold literally 5% on the PS3 and Xbox 360 and it came out in the second year of the PS4 just like Horizon, GOW, GT7 will this year.
Both next gen consoles are selling faster than ever and the hardcore gamers who buy games on day one at full price are buying games already. The folks you are talking about how bargain bin hunters who buy slim versions only on black friday when they go on sale for $199 and will almost never buy a game at full price. So they dont really matter when it comes to AAA sales anyway. They will buy the game 2-3 years later anyway.
Pretty sure yes. Although maybe there's some obscure handful of games that dont work. Not sure.Aren't the series S and X consoles completely backward compatibles with all Xbox One games anyway?
edit: ah, all except the ones that required Kinect.
In term of game sales. but SlimySnake said that its the hardcore people who buy the games day1. So i guess I jumped on it early. It’s not su

It’s counter pr to Sony’s “We are making more ps4s” pr debacle.
Only in the great baby nuts wars, a high demand for a product is considered... a debacle.Who here actually believes that statement was a debacle?

Ya, this is just a pr move. Time will tell if it is correct. It’s counter pr to Sony’s “We are making more ps4s” pr debacle.

They did the math, it would take years to speed by production, by then the demand will be met already. Microsoft's Xbox division spent BILLIONS on acquisitions, probably not enough budget to spend on overhauling an old factory.Might not be one for one, but I'd much rather have them spending their entire silicone budget on the new generation. Every wafer used for last-gen production just equals chips that could have been for the Series line instead.
Sony's been consistent. Microsoft has generally have moved on to the new gen right away — the exception, as you have pointed out, was the Xbox 360.360 E was still in production until early 2016. Production stopped about one calendar year before PS3 which is reasonable given that the system launched a year earlier. We had only seen two transitions before this one, one where they dropped out quickly (OG Xbox) and one where they completed a 10yr production cycle (Xbox 360). Hard to make a trend from that.
This time around I can totally see it because of the complete day one backwards compatibility.
I still find it crazy how Microsoft got so much backlash for saying they will support Xbox one for a year or two after announcing the series x, yet they have discontinued the older Xbox consoles and have a lot more in pipeline for series S/X consoles that we know about officially.
Sony on the other hand, came out swinging with we believe in generations and reaped all the praise for that statement, yet are making more PS4 consoles this year, and all their big games that people actually care about (GT7, GOW2, H:FW) are coming to both PS5 and PS4. (I still think this is due to these titles being much bigger budget titles than ratchet and clank, Returnal and demon souls) so they will want to tap into the PS4 100 million+ player base still.
Funny how things turn out though, regardless of this, this is definitely going to be an exciting generation across the board.
can someone remind Jim Ryan that Ape Escape exists, it's a much better IP than twisted metal, medieval & deserves a new title more than them crappy games
Console wars.I'm still trying to figure out how Jim Ryan's "we believe in generations" was translated into "no more first party PS4 games". I know that's why people keep repeating those four words, but it doesn't really jive with the rest of what he said. Either way, too much was made of Microsoft's decision to support Xbox One for a year after launch just as too much is being made of the life cycle of last gen consoles.

The OG model goes down as one of the worst consoles of all time for me.

The "We believe in generation" was always taken out of context. Hey always said it was a comparison with the PS4 and it's features compared with the PS5 new console/controller features.
Console wars.
Clickbait titles that drive wars, oh my sweet summer child.I somehow doubt the gaming press were influenced by console wars when they were using that quote to drag Xbox by the balls in mid 2020.
Not nearly as fast as the original XBOX and the XBOX 360. Those things officially ended production practically before their replacements were launched. That was fast.
'We believe in generations:' PlayStation argues cross-gen games risk stifling innovation
“As we’ve said many times, with PlayStation 5 it’s a brand new generation, and we believe in generations. So we want to evolve every part of the experience. ” “In many cases, we can’t take everybody with us from previous consoles into [a next generation experience],” Lempel tells Keighley...www.neogaf.com
But theAnd?
"In many cases, we can't take everybody with us from previous consoles into [a next-generation experience]. You need new hardware, you need new devices to experience what these developers want you to experience."
Then goes on to talk about Ratchet and Clank being one of those cases. So, again, where does he say "no more first party PS4 games"?

It was WIDELY reported in that context. He made no moves to correct the narrative if it was out of context.

Lol.
Its funny how old stuff become so bad for some people.
But I have an OG Model in my bedroom, and I sometimes think that compared to other systems it does not feel completely obsolete, all media apps and browser work great on it and on a 1080p TV a lot of games are still play perfectly fine.
I mean, I get that its not something you want as your main console attached to a 50+ 4k tv, but compared to prior gens games are not broken.
Also if the X1 is the worst console of all time, then logically the PS4 must be your slightly less worst console of all time because they are very similar systems.
I thought it was the One X and One SAD that were discontinued then? It was all of them?"end of 2020", so production ceased over a year ago.
Why are people reporting this now....
It was all bar the One S and that was mainly for the server Blades
Although it was just the X and One S digital. It wasn't officially announced if they discontinued the One S regular.
The point was MS was dropping most of its support for the One Xbox.Whats your point? Thats the One X and SAD. They were still making One S disc edition. Then they quietly stopped at the end of 2020 as this article mentions.
He doesn't, but it certainly doesn't sound like someone intending to do cross gen for marquee titles. And?

I purchased 5 games for the console across it's lifetime. That's far lower than any other platform I've ever owned, by order of magnitude. In comparison I bought that same amount of games in the first 3 months of my owning an Xbox 360.
If you want to play alternate history games where suddenly it was this amazing console with a strong and steady flow of compelling exclusive games then be my guest. While you're at it let's also write to Phil Spencer and ask him to undo all of the recent studio acquisitions (and general effort they've made with first party), because they clearly weren't needed right? Everything was great as it was, amazing.
More PS5s get produced than Series consoles, so yeah, maybe.the timing of this announcement is impeccable! (after a report saying Sony to produce more PS4).....that tells you who's confident moving forward, who's not
Uhm he did correct it...because you know the media can't even read these days but just shoot everything on the internet for clicks.
Since when is a console only judged by its exclusive games?
No doubt the PS4 had better and more exclusives.
But Xbox one still had an amazing catalogue of games.
And then theres the other factors which determin how good a console was
The Xbox one was silent and did the impossible that was BC.
I don't see what's so funny. This was obviously a long planned announcement. There is zero chance that someone at MS was feeding its more passionate fans a talking point about someone else focusing on the wrong priorities. Phil is on record being anti-console war I think, so no chance this was designed to fan any flames. None, zero, nada.Tom Warrior article?
