Love how he calls out MS, the company who believed in his studio enough to fund their first game and then the sequel. He wants MS to port Halo to PlayStation and then hope Sony returns the favor?

LMAO. Why not call on Nintendo, the market leader, to port Mario to Xbox. Or Sony to port TLOU2 to Xbox.

What a weird self own.

Read the article bro, its pretty clearly explained why hes calling out MS. hes calling out sony and nintendo as well but MS more so because of Phils contradictions, Can people not read? or is this that selective syndrome we are known for here on gaf?

The only reason this guy is able to be a bull in a china shop on behalf of his company instead of being just a shitty little fart is because MS made it possible.

And may I point out that he's actually posting at Resetera...

My principle is no walled gardens, but the way I see it is that at least MS arguably was the first one to make a move and they are further along than their competitors to bring console gamers out of the fence.

Phil is definitely a bit hypocritical with his stance regarding open platforms. Nintendo/Sony don't hide it, but Phil likes to pretend to be the good guy meanwhile going out to buy Bethesda only to take their previously multiplatform games exclusive.

If he truly believes his own spiel, he should put his money where his mouth is and actually embrace open platforms.

Someone should reply with some Torrent based picture and

.....as he would be presented with this alternate way of freedom, he would have to take a stand. Stand while not wanting to break his weak principles gathered from the delicate fabric of galaxy brain takes on very best video game forum. He would declare piracy as his dream of delivery his game, but that would be too small of a goal, Thomas breaks all the rules and release complete source code, so everybody can compile their Ori or или. Do it Thomas, do it!

or otherwise..... *shut down the lights, turn off the music* SHUT THE FUCK UP, don't bite the hand which feeds you. Victim baiting, entitlement and all that techniques, no bueno. Might as well send someone to check your working environment, I am sure it would be pristine.

Alright little bit of fan fictions, because I was doing very boring job and I need some creativity in my life at 2:34am. Thanks in advance for reactions, but i don't it for them, I do it for YOU

I think console + PC releases is a good compromise. Microsoft does deserve praise for being the first to make moves in that regard. Even Sony is reluctantly going in that direction.

Nintendo don't care though. They're laughing their asses off while they rake in allllllllll the money.

Completely agree with Thomas here. At the end, MS, Nintendo and Sony are platform holders and they play for their own walled garden. This is so obvious that its hard to believe that this is debatable.

I read his post. He wants MS to take the lead and port their games to PlayStation; and then the rest of the industry will follow suit. In reality that would never happen because Sony/Nintendo are way more focused on selling hardware and people spending money in their walled garden.

I’m just a simple shitposter who has never worked a day in the videogame industry, nor would I want to, and all 3 platform holders having different visions is crystal clear to me.

So now Miscoroft fans think he's an idiot because he disagrees with Microsoft's messaging vs their actions?

Look at how he is being torn into here because of what he's saying. Come on guys.

I'll go a bit further though.

This sounds to me like he's basically calling out Microsoft for trying to talk out of both sides of their mouth. On one side they are saying play everywhere, exclusives are bad for gamers, etc. etc. And of course on the other side, they are buying up devs and publishers and locking everything down to their services and their platforms (as they should).

In this case, Phil Spencer is just selling a bit of baloney to the press about their new Kumbaya attitude. It's bogus, and this guy is saying so to the media, without REALLY "saying so." Of course Microsoft wants to win and make the most money out of any platform provider. Of course they want to make as much profit as they can. This whole "we are doing everything for the good of the players!" is bull.

I think the Ori games are extremely average from a gameplay point of view, but they have been darlings to many of the MS faithful here. And now Moon Studios are being cast aside as heretics more or less. That is lame as hell. Did you like the games or not? If you did, this shouldn't change a damn thing about what you think of the company or their products.

This is the entire point and theres no dancing around it. You hit the nail on the head. This is what he also states in his post as well in his own words.

And let me be clear my personal stance is i am FINE with exclusives, always have been. They make absolute sense to me. This also isnt something thats found in just the video game industry.

So again when you go out and make unsolicited comments about how you want everyone to play so everyone wins you come off as a super clout chaser, or maybe he doesnt even realize what hes saying and how stupid it is. So why say anything? Sometimes i feel like he just talks just to run his mouth or come off as a certain way. Remember perception is always reality especially on neogaf.

All three of the console companies do it. Microsoft probably have the best of the three track record with allowing ports and crossplay. At least in recent memory

Microsoft will get there eventually. They want to be the Netflix of gaming. Eventually XBox will just be an app that you can download on any device just like Netflix, Disney+, Hulu, etc. The main obstacle holding that back is that most countries' broadband infrastructure just isn't up to snuff right now, but hopefully that will gradually change over the next decade and beyond.

"I want my games to be multiplatform for the fans"

Sure.... You only want your games to be multiplat because it means more copies sold, which in turn means more money beyond what an exclusivity agreement provides. In the end, Bungie got their wish and they delivered on multiple platforms, but a gimped version of their game on Microsoft consoles due to exclusivity agreements. I love Ori, but if the next game from them is gimped on Xbox while complete on PlayStation, I am just skipping it all together.

Oh but Microsoft is actually trying to do that with XCloud. They'll let you play on all consoles as long as you are paying them for the subscription.
No not really. At-least not in the way I saying.

I can see the guys point but he's full of it if MS funded it. It's just part of it.

At the same time Phil talks a bunch of BS throwing tweets out like "we don't care where you play as long as your having fun"

Then turns around and buys well established 3rd party Zenimax and announces he's keeping the titles on xbox. That's a different situation than Spiderman and Insomniac.

He calls out both Nintendo and Sony already. Read the OP, but he criticises MS because they have this holier than thou attitude where they go around saying exclusives block people from playing and are anti-consumer etc but don't actually act accordingly.
Part of the reason Bungie left was because they wanted to go multiplatform.

I'm seeing a lot of comments about the inconsistencies with a company and its spokesman...

I'm going to be alone in this, but having a hype-ceo or hype-spokesperson seems like an asinine concept to me. I enjoy games from Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft, etc., but I can figure that out for myself. Some damn talking head in charge never made me enjoy gaming more. I don't get why so much energy is wasted on them unless their presence becomes synonymous with dumpster fire games like Bobby Kotick.

I guess his ego and other things have gotten the best of him.

This is a BUSINESS first.

All 3 companies are trying to tow this fine line which always is moving and also the goal post of every single gamers expectations.

He can shut up and make another game and let that do that talking.

Remember when Jim ryan got called out for his Next gen cross gen stance? Yeah me too, and it turns out to date his platform has more next gen only stuff on the market than the other, but i don't see that winning him any consolation prizes or sparring him from legit criticism so why should it be spared here?

Theres a difference in signing 3rd party timed exclusives that later go to pc or other platforms and have first party stuff that is available truely everywhere, lets not pretend.

What a take. Xbox has the positivity around it that it has now because of the rebuilt first party. If MS games were available on PS/Nintendo, that would effectively end Xbox. They'd be the only player with no exclusive software. MS has more than enough reach with console, PC, and cloud. And they can do it all under the Xbox brand name, which only strengthens the whole package.

So this dude took Microsofts money and is now complaining they cant release it on Sony platforms?
Microsoft was all GAMERS UNITE. When it was looking very dire on their console prospects. They stopped posting numbers of all kind. Microsoft sorta of forced Playstation to share their multiplayer customers with Xbox, to strengthen their lobbies.

Regardless seems like the guy is upset with Xbox studios. I think exclusives are perfectly fine. It’s perfect business sense. It’s just not kumbaya consumer friendly sense. Maybe he only gave the rights expecting wide spread publishing, and didn't notice the small print “except Playstation”.

On Microsoft’s side on this, fuck the kumbaya.

So Phil was only saying 'we want gamers to play everywhere' and supported cross play, only to go and buy Zenimax, to benefit their company? It's almost as if his primary concern is to make money... Like every other CEO.. These companies are NOT your friends.

Doesn't make any sense. If MS published their games everywhere then Xbox would just die. Maybe in some dreamworld that would be a good thing, but to me it just is not. Microsoft need's that competition. As a consumer, I WANT that competition.

Moon isn't owned by MS. They can make games anywhere they want. This rant of his is just silly.

Like others have already stated, MS puts their games out on PC, they make 1st party games available on Game Pass, and I seem to recall Ori and the Blind Forest being available on the Switch. Phil has a vision but exclusives also have to matter, especially against their main competitor Sony. This guy is butt hurt because the game didn't make it onto one platform? That's why it's stupid to call MS out. This dev is a moron.

He's complaining Microsoft isn't putting all their games on PlayStation, because little Johnny's mom didn't buy him an Xbox? Well, why would she, or anyone else, if Xbox has Xbox games, but PlayStation has PlayStation AND Xbox games?

Yes, it's a business, genius. You don't sacrifice your own product to support the competition's product.

I get what you are saying but i dont think he would say anything, if Phil spencer had not made his comments, phil set this table for discussion not the moon studios dev. Funding 3rd party TIMED exclusives is not new, we all know that although some of us like to pretend only one corporation has or is doing it. if you need reference for what i am referring to please let me know and i will point you to what he is specifically talking about.

He would be worse off if Sony published his game as it would have only been on PlayStation.
I'm not trying to war but I have a hard time thinking he would be "worse off" being a playstation exclusive. If anything he might be marginally more accessible with sony. Though of course it would be just as bad if he's against exclusivity.

Or Minecraft. MS is the least stingy of all the platform holders.

This guy is a dumbass. Theres literally no point in multiple platforms if there are no exclusives. Everything would just be PC.
